Other spots to check, head gasket could be leaking into exhaust, so check your coolant for exhaust gasses using test strips! Coolant T connection behind engine is also a common leak spot as well.
@SolvingSaab So far I believe it comes down to either the thermostat or the water pump. I haven't spotted any leaks other than coolant dumping from the overflow and I've notice poor interior heating performance and random overheating.
Great video except one thing you said perhaps in error. At 3:35 you say if coolant temp sensor is bad …then it won’t tell thermostat to open or close. My understanding is thermostats are thermal mechanical… they react to actual temp of the coolant it is emerged in. Reason I mention this is my 9-3 06 2.8 v6 is blowing steam out the reservoir overflow tube… but temp gauge moves to and stays at normal. I keep finding large puddles under the coolant reservoir… I suspect tstat getting at times stuck closed…and causing a steam backup thru and out the coolant reservoir tank tube. It looks like a monster job to get at the thermostat on this engine… any thoughts on what be going on? Has a new 6 months ago GM oem water pump… no other leaks detected other than what drops out of overflow tube. .. fyi…fans seem stuck ON… but that seems to be a bad fan relay…as it kicks ON a cold engine startup. Thanks Frank
I am currently tackling the thermostat right now as we speak, its a lot of work and if you want to properly reseal and clean the surface that the gasket lays on I recommend taking out the downpipe and the other exhaust piece that sits below it. I've been at this for days, did you ever figure it out?
@alexanderanaya808 yes... it was indeed a bad thermostat.. had to remove turbo to at the thermostat. Tsat and housing are one piece. Bleed out coolant system... problem fixed.
I’m having an issue finding the lower reservoir hose. The one with the Jesus clip that hooks up to the bottom. The only site I could find it on (because there was a diagram) was eeuroparts but it’s unfortunately on back order through them. Any input would help thanks. Also if you know if that plastic part that hooks up can be disconnected and reconnected on a new hose. I can make a hose work if need be but I don’t want to go about trying to take it off if it cannot. Thank you again.
Definitely not an easy find. Unfortunately My best advice is to hit up a junk yard. Or look up just the part number to see if you can find it anywhere else.
im having this issue with my B207, nice video ..the thermostat is mechanic or is there a relay that operates something? my coolant is boiling out of safety discharger I think one of my fans is not coming on
I have a 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero V6 turbo. I recently replaced the coolant cap, and a week later, the coolant started leaking. I see where one of the hoses is leaking, but most of the coolant in the reservoir is leaking. Took the car to a Saab repair in Berkeley. They gave an estimate of $900-$1000 to replace the thermostat. The car has never overheated. Is this a legitimate repair diagnosis?

This is the best video for b284 cooling diagnosis. Thank you!
Did it help you find what you needed? I made this video a while back and missed some info.

Also btw your do88 cooling system install, absolute life saver. Made the install so much quicker, did it a few months ago and it went very smoothly.
@@bemad7886 sounds like thermostat to me. But who knows.
Just noticed you uploaded this video, looking forward to more videos this year!
Thank you! It is people like you that keep the channel going!

@@Vaigue sorry, I have not dealt with that… can’t offer any help at this time… but I’m sure someone has a video on UA-cam that may help…
Did you figure it out I have the same problem on my 2006 Saab 2.8

@@FranksWorld1 thank you bro
What brand of cap you got ?

Oh wow yeah just use the part number duh. Lol that was a lot easier.
im having this issue with my B207,

..the thermostat is mechanic or is there a relay that operates something?
my coolant is boiling out of safety discharger
I think one of my fans is not coming on
All thermostats on Saabs are mechanical not electric. The fan may be a fuse or relay.

I would get it checked somewhere else just to see if they come up with the same diagnosis. Fix your leaking hose first and see if anything changes.
Got a source for that strut bar?
