I bought (2) 2 1/2 gal jugs of rv antifreeze. Larger containers make winterizing easier, especially if you are alone? I kept the empty jugs to possibly refill with 1 gal jugs. I bought a Camco hand pump to winterize the black tank flush, and I also drained what little there was from the gray and black tank flush after I was done winterizing.
Hi Guys, not a pro but I use a method handed down to me from my grand dad and he was a full timer.. Ive had my Mountain Aire for 10 winter seasons and I do much of the same with some exception. After you blow your system out with air (I suggest a water pressure regulator set at 55 psi ) you have a only few grams of possible water if any per 6 feet of line. That is not an amount able to expand and crack joints and or pipes at all. water compacted into pipes and joints expanding is the only cause of bursting lines. Any fine droplets left in the system are harmless. After all the mist comes out you shut it and forget it, and use a gallon for the p-traps and one for the black tank. You should keep your fresh water tank empty whenever not in use anyway. If you decide you want to use the rig go for it with no flushing or sanitizing of lines or the fresh tank needed.
This may be a dumb question, but if you drained EVERYTHING and then start siphoning out of the gallon of antifreeze, how is it water clear coming out of the sinks before it lets out the antifreeze?
We close the lo point drain to build enough pressure in the system for the air to push out the fluid. You can open the low point drain after every other faucet is misting. We then run antifreeze through the system.
My father always taught me to use extra rv antifreeze to make sure nothing freezes over. Rather to be safe than spend thousands replacing water lines. Great video!

For some reason I’m not getting any air pressure in the various faucets when using air compressor @ 45 - 50 psi. My drain valves closed and hot water drain plug is in. Then my antifreeze (2 gallons) went into the fresh water tank. Is this correct? When running the antifreeze through the faucets I’m getting pressure on cold & toilet but nothing on hot in bathroom sink or shower. 2020 Bay Star 3028
As an additional step, I go back and blow out the RV antifreeze through the same process. Each faucet, both cold and hot, toilet, shower, etc. This limits the amount of the RV anti-freeze in the lines and reduces the potential taste you might find in the spring in your freshwater system. Not all RV anti-freeze formulas are the same and we have found some to have an aftertaste when they stay in the lines all winter. As this is our third RV over more than 25 years, it hasn't failed me.

@@EndlessRVing Thank you! Looking forward to it :) . . . and being able to use it with ALL of our additions and renovations we've made in the last few of months!
For those of you that only use compressed air to evacuate your lines, here is something to consider. Like Izzy and MJ, I also embalm with non-toxic RV antifreeze. There is a lubricant in the antifreeze that keeps the seals in the faucet hardware from drying out prematurely. I also leave a small puddle in the toilet bowl for that seal as well. JMHO....😀
I drain all my tanks including the water heater and put a small electric heater inside set to the lowest temperature that it can go. Rv antifreeze has a warning on the jug that says "if ingested call poison control "
I am taking my to my dealer this year, I am helping farm and we’re working 12 hour days. My question is do you run the washing machine to get antifreeze all through it and do you let the ice maker cycle so the refrigerator as antifreeze in it as well ?
Don Bruder hue Don can’t answer the washer question as we have not done that. Regarding the ice maker yes until pink liquid comes out of ice maker. Then you are good. That is a good question for the dealer. Izzy
@@donbruder6838 that would make sense. anywhere water is running through should have antifreeze in it. You will be using a lot of gallons of antifreeze
Endless RVing I am sure, they told me it was $100 to winterize it. I have a couple of very small things I am going to have them look at under warranty while it’s there too . Thanks Izzy, great information as always !!
Winterize if weather will be at or below 32 degrees. If you are going to use water after you winterize you will have to dewinterize and winterize again after you are done. Not winterizing will cause your lines to freeze if you are in a cold environment. Izzy
Add few points: Turn you BYPASS valve on, to avoid fill up your water heater! Take out your built-in water filter, but turn back the empty filter case in place. Compressor should be low, just around 40psi, however you can use your water pressure regulator to reduce pressure in the line. When water heater tank is empty FLASH out with water. You'll see how much sediment is on the bottom of it. Happy RV-ing!
Thank you for the video. You mentioned about keeping water in your black water tank at all times. Unfortunately, our season is done and I emptied the black/grey at the camp site. Should I put some water into the black tank for winter storage? It’ll be stored indo in a heated facility until Spring. If so, how much water? We’re in western NY, for what it’s worth.
100% there should always be liquid with chemical in your black tank. You don’t want it to dry out and the contents that are inside to dry and build on your tanks walls. 5 gallons of water and chemical should be fine.
I don't understand why your doing the air compressor blowout of the lines? If you run the antifreeze through the lines and outlets until it comes out pink, you are essentially clearing the line of water with the antifreeze.
We do both as redundancy. The last thing you want are frozen lines. It’s not a big deal for us to take our time it is worth it in the long run. Hope that helps. Izzy

tw HomeShow thanks! We actually have a couple more trips but needed to get this video out early enough for those shutting it down for the season. LOL We’ll be dewinterizing. 😀 Have fun on your trip! - MJ
JMHO....😀
Thanks Robert. 👍 - MJ
I drain all my tanks including the water heater and put a small electric heater inside set to the lowest temperature that it can go.
Rv antifreeze has a warning on the jug that says "if ingested call poison control "
Yes, we’re not putting it on the rocks in a glass and having it with dinner. 😂 Thanks for watching Terry! - MJ
What about if you use the compressor to get all the water out like you just did and leave the lines empty.
For less than $15 dollar we run the antifreeze through. It’s not worth the risk of damaged lines or plumbing.
Izzy
Do you remove all contents from your RV?
Over the winter yes. Keep the mice out.
Izzy
They told me that they run the washer to make sure it has antifreeze in it !
Will this be a risk for ingesting afterwards? Is it still okay to fill the dog's water bowl?
Flush and sanitize your system when the camping season begins.
Izzy
How cold should it be to winterize? Can you use the RV once you winterize? Thanks - Ivan & Josie
Winterize if weather will be at or below 32 degrees. If you are going to use water after you winterize you will have to dewinterize and winterize again after you are done. Not winterizing will cause your lines to freeze if you are in a cold environment.
Izzy
Endless RVing very helpful thanks.
:-)))) :-))))
🤗
Noob question: Did the antifreeze bypass the freshwater tank, or is it in there too?
It's in there as well. Thanks. - MJ
Izzy
Speak for yourselves! There’s still 6 weeks of camping left!
😂 We actually have a couple more trips but needed to get this video out early enough for those shutting it down for the season. We’ll be dewinterizing tomorrow LOL. 😀 Thanks for watching Joe! - MJ
I don't think you said anything about bypassing the hot water heater. This won't work if you don't have it bypassed - it will run into the empty hot water heater tank and run out the drain. Otherwise great vid.
We don’t bypass our tankless water heater. We run the antifreeze through all the lines and drain the water heater after it’s all done.
@@EndlessRVing - glad you mentioned tankless hot water heater here. My rig (3414) has regular hot water heater and has bypass valves to throw when winterizing. I also blow out lines, add anti-freeze to sink traps, but haven't added to supply lines. I am going to do that this year though. Nice video!
