I bought my wife a Mini Cooper S. Other then being too expensive (it is a BMW), it was a great car. Very well put together. Car, along with the wife, are both gone now. 👌
Agree 💯, I've got the B48 in my 2017 1-series. With a little tickle its around 260hp and 410nm of torque. It's very light because it misses the 2 cylinders up front. Absolute blast to drive. 20 seconds to 200kph / 120 mph. And breezed to 240+ kph / 150+ mph on the Autobahn.
@12Music72 Not really if u compare numbers. I drive it's as a daily with 100k km on now and I have to say it's pretty cheap still as a performance car. It depends on where u live I guess. In Germany insurance is fine, not really more then for an regular 1series. If u drive daily calm on the pedal, u get like 8-10l per 100 km. That's around the same as the 48. Service isn't really more expensive either. Just bring ur own oil to the deal and u be cheaper on. Also the value on the 140 gonna hold up much better, as its the last 6 cylinder 1 series.
@hettmannsperger42 it is if you compare numbers lmao. That's why I decided to go for the 4-pot for now. Next car will be a 3 or 5 series with the B58. The numbers in my case are as follows: road tax and insurance are 30% more expensive. And my mileage is more like 6,0-8,0 L /100km. Which is €1000 in fuel more per year..
So I was looking at getting a Z4. I took the B48 version out for a spirited drive. I was really impressed. Then I made a mistake and took out the B58. Honestly the 48 was just fine in that car. You could use the engine without going to jail.
Yes! I recently just bought the the lower case supra with b48 and it's a lightweight punchy 4-cylinder that ABSOLUTELY RIPS on back roads. It's a cool to be able to use like 90% of the car without doing crazy speeds.
How reliable are 330i ‘s with this engine and in general? I’ve seen some ~2021-22 cars with around 20k miles for a good price. I’ve heard BMW has become more reliable recently. Do these cars still need a lot of maintenance and have electrical gremlins?
I have G30 530i from 2017. Seems reliable so far (101k km, had it for almost a year and 11k km). Overall reliability is good. Things to look for are: - plastic coolant hoses that tend to break, but you can change them preventively (recommended) - oil filter housing - one of the water lines has a plastic part that breaks and damages the seal. You will start loosing coolant. This is the most serious job that needs to be addressed after 100-150k km once it happens. You need to take intake manifold to perform that, so it is adviced to use that occasion and clean up intake valves too - timing chain should be good for over 200k km (haven't heard about them failing, but if they do - engine needs to be taken out as it is located at the back of it) - disable Start/Stop, use it only for longer stops. Else it will damage your timing chain if it engages too frequently. The rest is typical stuff: more frequent oil changes in the engine, transmission, VTG transfer case (xDrive) and both differentials. Pay attention to your car, keep the oil level at maximum, check your coolant regularly and ideally: get some diagnostics software like Ista or Bimmercode and see if there are some serious errors that should be addressed. You do that and in return you get a fantastic car with a very efficient and quite powerful engine with the best transmission. Both of those can be tuned as well and what you get is a mini rocket, that can still return good fuel consumption. It's not
Mannnnnn where have you been?!Been following since 2020. It’s nogi_kevin. I sold my 2020 F82 and currently have a G82 comp! Much better car than the F82 in every way. Pushing 771 whp with Full E85 and Port Injection. Glad to see you return.
Audi A4's 2.0L EA888 is better. For tuners, the lower compression is less prone to KNOCK and can be tuned to nearly 400hp with stock turbo. That engine has been proven highly reliable too.
@@CorlosMazdareplace it with an aluminum one and the b58 will have the same plastic issues. Honestly I think the g20 330i is the best bang for buck cause it gets better mpg and you can make 400+ hp with a turbo, downpipe and tune. I have a b58 and im honestly thinking ab trading it in for a 330 💀 weighs the same has better handling characteristics and gets better mpg. B58 is cool but the timing chain redesign on the b48tu has sold me tbh.
Very strong and smooth engine but man after 80k you will start getting coolant leak after coolant leak ( ask me how I know ).. Nobody should have to spend over $4000 on a car under 80k miles and 5 years old because of plastic coolant parts all over that crack and leak.. This affects all B48s and lots of B58's after 75k miles. Thats my only complaint, it makes great power and revs nicely.
Spot on. I love my b46 in my 19 X3 but after 65k miles you get coolant leaks constantly. I replaced the turbo coolant line at 65k miles, water pump at 70k miles, and now I’m at 75k and the upper radiator hose is starting to have a very small leak. I do most of the work at home in my garage but even parts are expensive. Will be doing the oil filter housing at around 80k just to be sure I don’t get oil and coolant mixing.
@@User37621 on mine the coolant level never dropped. Maybe a few ML but nothing crazy. I check my engine bay throughly every month to keep up on leaks, last thing I want to do is overheat the engine.
