It suddenly made sense why Henry was often kept to the sidelines. Having no knowledge of what his family did saved him from a life on the run. But the weight of being deceived since birth will always be with him. Fortunately, Henry has Stan to lean on.

IBut as Paige said, how will Henry live on his own in the United States? Who will pay for his school and college? I guess they implied he was adopted by Stan, but was he really? Besides there will be always a cloud of suspicion surrounding him as the FBI could never know if Henry was really in dark or is just another sleeper agent. Even if they believed in Henry's innocence, Henry could be a target for recruitment in the future just like that other boy who killed his Russian parents back in Season 2.

I have a feeling Henry knew more than he let on. His family's weirdness was one of the reasons he chose a boarding school. He didn't know they were Soviet spies but he knew something was off.

For most of the series, Elizabeth has always been perceived as the colder, ruthless one, while Phillip was viewed as the more empathetic and nicer of the pair, but I appreciate how muddled that perspective becomes here. Elizabeth is at her most human here as a desperate, pleading mother who doesn't want to leave her son, but she's also at her most delusional and fanatical here, believing that a few words is all it would take to convince Henry, disregarding the psychological damage of being lied to his whole life and the chaos of being uprooted from all he's ever known. While Phillip appears to be making the crueler choice by abandoning Henry in America, he's making that decision based on a deeper, compassionate understanding of his son, and how he knows Henry will never comprehend or accept his parents' actions, no matter how hard they try persuading him.

Kerri deserved an Emmy for this scene alone. The emotions that passed over her face in these few seconds when Philip said Henry should stay were incredible.

I can only imagine Henry's reaction and feelings when Stan told him the truth. Poor guy was kept in the dark and didn't know anything. But as messed up as it sounds, they did the right thing leaving Henry behind. There's no way he could survive living in Russia.

Nope and especially with how much Henry was progressing and doing well in America and in college, it’s way to
Hard to just forget all that and leave it behind. It’s sad but Phillip knew he had a brighter future in America with his school and hockey life. Russian nor could his parents offer him those things

Henry definitely had a better story than Bran, it made sense.

I get it but that's so cruel. Henry probably was shock af finding out everything about his parents and will never get answers from them.

A year ago, this masterpiece won the Emmy for best writing for a drama series. Who do you guys think is gonna snag the statuette this year? And did Henry Jennings have a better story than Bran the Broken?

Not only was The Americans finale much better then Game of Thrones finale. The Americans as a whole is one of my favorite works of fiction and one of the best TV shows if not the best ever made. On top of that this show got robbed year after year for best drama over Game of Thrones.

Could you keep these uploads coming? Especially from episodes like Duty and Honor, Martial Eagle, Dyotova.

I don't know what will happen to Henry. Probably they will have to relocate him and give him a new identity as his present identity is already fake anyway (the people listed as his parents on his birth certificate are actually dead), but I don't see why the FBI would feel it has to take care of him. Maybe they will use him as a bargaining chip to get Philip and Elizabeth back. In any case, it is hard to carry the burden of being the son of two high-level Soviet spies/assassins. Even if Henry plausibly denies knowing anything about his parents' job, there will be suspicion that he might be a sleeper agent left behind in the US or a possble target for future KGB recruitment. He will be under surveillance for a long time and his future career options will be limited.
I actually feel really sorry for his character because Henry is the cleanest all-American boy (High School hockey star, AP Calculus, doesn't even smoke or do drugs, New England prep school, probably a great college and social network later, etc.). His parents basically ruined or at least considerably messed up his life and he didn't deserve it.

It's like comparing a chocolate cake to a pile of shit. Henry was definitely more developed in off and on appearances in 6 seasons of The Americans than Bran was in 8 seasons of Game of Thrones with source material from 5 books.

Elizabeth is not a complete sociopath after all...

@Lucas And how would you describe Philip?

    • @BucyKalman
      @BucyKalman 2 роки тому

Fanatical can turn people into sociopaths, or, conversely, sociopaths may be attracted to it. Elizabeth also had several sociopaths in her team over the years: the Vietnamese boy, the Nicaraguan girl, etc, Others were committed to the cause, but not necessatily sociopaths, like Hans (the South African grad student), Gregory, or even Philip himself.

Henry and Paige should have learned Russian and gone with their parents. The psychological trauma of being left behind is too profound.

@@markkoussa2888 I'd still like a coda of sorts. Whether the marriage comes to an amicable close because Elizabeth wants to find a cause again. Whether Philip tries to visit Martha. And of course the other son. And to see how long before Arkady got Oleg out!

I hate the mom she feels so cold and indoctrinated by the kgb and the Soviet government you would think being in America for a long time would wear you down and open you up to new ideas but for some it’s impossible let’s not forget the Soviet government will fall.
