    I originally missed that he puts Paige into the same hold we've seen him use to break someone's neck.... Wonder if it occurred to her that she was dead right there. Philip was by far the more lethal fighter, perhaps out of any character we saw in the show.... That first fight scene in the alley in the pilot was like some Jason Statham stuff. I know it was Phillip's nature to be calculated about fighting... It was never his first action.... But I'd have liked to see him kick a few more asses throughout the 6 seasons... Just, without it seeming forced or gratuitous.

    The mistake at 0:48 was she presented her passport open. This is something people who need to show their papers do. We did not have to show our papers then, so we would give them a closed passport.

    Just finished the show and gotta say, although it definetely is a masterpiece and I enjoyed every second, I‘m kinda disappointed with the ending. Stan should have done something… and although I feel with Philip - he really tried to be a good father - I think it was out of character for him to be loyal, he didn‘t wanted to Return. And sorry, but I feel nothing for Elizabeth, she was a horrible Mother and person, only centered around her and her ideology without questioning anything… but apart from the ending, I really really enjoyed the Show!!

    I didn’t think Phillip cared about his wife and daughter thinking he was weak or had lost the stomach for the cause. His conscience won out in the end where as Elizabeth would always blindly for the cause. I thought this scene was Phillip being a father, showing Paige the realities of the life not the romanticised version Paige had or the cherry picked version Elizabeth gave her.

    You have to consider the time this was set in. No email, no cellphones, they had no way of knowing how they would ever talk to their kids again aside from one of them being arrested by the feds. INCREDIBLE gravity portrayed here. Quite possibly the best series finale in history.

    What you get from this show: Every love story is a spy thriller. The secrets and trusts we enter into in a love relationship bind us. Only people who truly understand love, loyalty, betrayal, and family would get this.

    I always thought that it wasnt a good decision for them to head back to the soviet union. Without a doubt they had to leave the U.S but elizabeth killed another officer and the center didnt trust phillip since the beginning of the series. Whats stopping their own country from taking them out after a review of their ops?

    "Not for this." This is Elizabeth's "I love you". She's saying she needs Philip in her life, not because they are good spy partners, but because they are life partners. Their dynamic in s6 broke my heart, but Elizabeth releasing Philip here from the fear that she only values him for what he brings to their spy team is a beautiful act of love in the most Elizabeth way possible.

    "We do it, not them. So it's on us; all of it." This perfectly encapsulates the tragedy of the show, the human toll of the daily grind.

    Paige's indoctrination and naivete is on full display here. She really only cosplayed as a spy and thinks her dad is some meek incompetent fellow just because he quit the job three years ago. The way she asks if he wants her to pretend hit him is full of condescension. Darling, your dad is a badass. He stuffed a guy in a suitcase once.

    The moment Pastor Tim in facing Phillip knowing that his answer was going to bring down his anger answered that he did truly believe, that saved his life. Phillip know that Tim wasn’t a shyster using religion to get money from people like his daughter. He respected that. Had Paster Tim wavered he would have likely either died or had the crap best out of him.

    • @acrssl
      @acrssl Місяць тому

      You're right. That's what Phillip was trying to find out. Since Pastor Tim didn't show fear, even when Phillip got very close to him, that means that he really does believe in what he says because only faith can beat fear from having a guy like Phillip in front of you.

      @@jenlindley7780when a guy with leather gloves comes to your office, is obviously angry, thinka that you are doing something you should do with his daughter, gets very close to you and looks into your eyes, it's not good. Doesn't matter what he looks like, don't be naive. Some or the worst guys I know don't look very dangerous, they don't need to.

    Life is a miracle. In couple of years from this scene point the USSR will collapsed and Russia will changed forever. Paige and Henry could come to Russia to reunion with their parents. I would start new season from that point. Elisabeth and Philip still work for the government, new government. Stan is coming to Russia like some security officer of the US embassy and looking to contact Philip and Elizabet who lived in Moscow now. They all countinue with new relations but can't trust each other. So they all play games. Paige and Henry decided to stay at Moscow with their parents but Phil and Elisabeth can't trust even them. So the spy drama countinues. :)

      Too complex and unrealistic. Not enough cat and mouse, plus Moscow or another Russian city as a long-term backdrop might not appeal to enough American viewers over time. The original FX series worked because you had the 1980s as a backdrop and actual history as a side story to their spy games.

    Phillip’s innate humanity and empathy were his greatest assets as an illegal, giving him interpersonal skills that built instant trust with others, revealing secrets and gaining access in a way his counterpart couldn’t. However, in the long run, this shredded his soul, and he couldn’t suppress the toll his work took forever. To have his lifetime of personal sacrifice and exemplary service mocked by his daughter who was being groomed for service absent the dehumanizing nature of the work, was simply more than he could tolerate. He uses no offensive strikes, and easily places her into sleeper holds on command. Even severely restricted he instantly gains control and sees if she can break out. A truly excellent scene where he demonstrates his daughter has no clue how deep the rabbit hole goes.
