There's lots of people in other regions of the United States that would want to see Big 12 teams play in ACC teams play get tired of just watching the Big Ten and the SEC
Big 12, ACC, ND and G6 have to form their own NC. If BIG-SEC champ wants to play for a unification title, it must be equal shares. Let them have 4 teams each- to play each other in their own 8 team playoff. The Rest of Us playoff can have Big 12 and ACC Champ and Runners-up, The winner of a PAC-12 MWC "bi-conference" champion, and the best conference champion in the rest of the G6. Then the two best at large schools not in that group (ND should be one every year unless they stumble),
@@haroldflashman4687 You mean ND will have their pick. But they will pick the side that will allow them to keep their independence. BIG-SEC is the threat to that.
@@haroldflashman4687 they are already where the money is. For them that is staying indy and not sharing with any conference. Siding with the weaker faction can keep them that way.
The fact that both conferences voted for the 12 team playoff, including the format, and want to bitch about it not being 6 teams from the SEC and 6 teams from the B1G is everything that is wrong with college football now
Yes. What's crazy is they thought they would dominate it. Turns out you actually have to win some games on the field, something they didn't worry about. They wouldn't have approved the the current system, if they didn't think they would have dominated it. It never crossed their mind that boise state could even get the 3 spot. So instead of making themselves better, they want to change the rules to favor themselves even more.
The SEC and B1G having 4 AQ spots has nothing to do with being the "best 2" conferences. That's like trying to describe the cake by the cherry on top. It's about having as many teams in to maximize revenue for themselves. They only use "best" conference to sway people to their side when there's no real objective truth to it. And the media needs to protect their cash cows, so they have their pundits speak well of them while trying not to sound biased. Fans complain NIL is ruining sports, but it's really the media who ruined sports because of greed. And it's been going on for some time now.
Amusing that none of the so called fairness discussions originating primarily from the Big 12 and ACC never include any meaningful talk about the fact that the Big and the SEC draw outsized attendance, media viewership, contain the most prominent brand names and generate by far the most revenue . Central question - why is it “unfair” for the Big and SEC to get outsized portion of playoff slots and revenue?
@@lamarkelly969 The NFL has a proven track record of continued success. College football not so much. The SEC & B1G are heading to alienating a major portion of college fans.
Actually, they should subvert it. Top 4 of ACC and Big12 have a mini-playoff to get into the playoff. Therefore they could still save face and "claim" they have 4 spots. then 1v4 and 2v3 to get those two spots in the CFP, plus they get to keep the money from an additional conference 'title' game.
The real way to do this is to have a 2-2-2-2-1-1 system where the final four seats are awarded to conferences based off the previous years performances in the college football playoff, something like each of the final four earning their conference another seat. If the SEC/B1G are actually better they should basically always have more auto bids by doing this, but makes them earn it.
I like the 4,4,2,2,1,1 model... but the 4s should automatically go to the Big10 and SEC. They should go to the two conferences that perform the best in non-conference schedules -- which is usually Big10 and SEC, but at least they'd have to prove it.
How about this 16 model? First get rid of conference championship games. Conference champions awarded based on regular season and share in case of ties. Each P4 gets top 2 automatic bids from the top, they do not play in conference championship week at all. Total of 8 autobids. Top 4 ranked G5 play each other in conference championship week for 2 play in automatic bids. 6 remaining spots based on next best 12 ranked teams. Play in weekend (former conference championship weekend). First week or so 16 team, top of each P4 is guaranteed a home game, otherwise top ranked has a home game.
If the B12 and ACC want to survive this, the answer is out there but it is UGLY. Create a conference of the top 14-16 programs and dump the rest. A conference of UNC, FSU, OK St, Clemson, Virginia, Kansas, Colorado, ASU, Arizona, Utah/BYU GT, TT, TCU, VT, GT, and Stanford. But you would have to dump good programs. Miami, NCST, WVU, and KST. Bad business but that's a conference the P2 would respect and make an equal.
I woul like a 16 team playoff. 4 from each conference every season and group of 5 have there own playoffs. That beould be fun for me and I would watch the group of 5 playoffs also.
I think the actual move is expanding to 16 teams and have the 9 conference champs AQ with the next 7 highest ranked teams and have the highest 8 ranked teams host round 1. Highest ranked team hosts until Semis and we can rotate the New Years 6 games being the Semi and Natty like before
Multiple automatic bids for those 2 conferences is just agreeing with the premise that they are better from step one. . . which is crap, unsportsmanlike, and contrary to logic.
@heartbreak25 , getting into the national championship game is political to begin with. UCF went undefeated? No sniff. FSU went undefeated? Not a sniff even in a playoff. Don't forget that TCU beat Michigan en route to being annihilated. Oklahoma played in several national title games, as did Texas WHEN THEY WERE IN THE BIG XII. It's just a self-fulfilling prophesy if you ignore every metric by which the Big XII is better in order to only let them get 1 team into the playoff. BYU was better than several of those teams. Iowa State, even wracked with injuries, was better. The decision needs to be determined on the field, not the result of some conception of a popularity concept.
@@kingbaldwiniv5409 PSU went undefeated 13 times. Do you know how many count as natties? Here's a hint, not 13. LOL! I said current Big 12 teams. Texas and OU are not in the Big 12. That's still no excuse for going 2-48 in the last 50 years. Illinois had a better resume than BYU. I don't hear the B1G complaining every day about them getting snubbed. You don't get credit for beating Colorado, who Nebraska boat raced, and then lose to Kansas - and Illinois beat Nebraska and Kansas.
The Big 12 and ACC would have better off if the accepted the B1G model for this year of 3-3-2-2-1. 4-4-2-2-1 for 14 may sound bad, but it may be good for the Big 12 and ACC. Does anyone really think that the B1G and SEC will not each get 4 of the 14? This might stop either from getting five, which is the goal of the SEC.
The problem is the idea of it. When TX and OK left the Big12 thought they were equal even though they were not. When they should have accepted 3/3/2/2/1/3 they balked at it instead of taking the win. Then the ACC gets 2 and gets crushed and the Big12 only gets one. That solidified it .. because now it wasn't only on paper but in the field. And it wasn't like the Big12 went 6-2 in bowl games against lower tier B10 and SEC... And the ACC sucked it up. The 4/4/2/2/1/1 is again a gift... But a gift that confirms their status Some would rather have the SEC and Big 10 get 10 between the 2 and the ACC and Big12 only get 1 as long as it was not written in stone.
