I just took the assessment today so I have a very very long road ahead towards being hired or not. It reminds me of the process I went through to become an MTA New York City Transit Bus Operator. Very long tedious process. But I'm happy for you that you made it into a rewarding career.

When I went through orientation the guy did say that the postal service was having a serious problem with leachers. There are people who actually make a living by getting a pay check from just sitting through a month of training and then just quitting before actually having to do any work. Then they move on to another job and do the same thing. You can get like two pay checks from the post office before you're left on your own to earn your salt.

It's funny in my day (13 years ago) they did everything through snail mail. You would think they would hold true to that since it's their own business! lmao. You would get sent a packet in the mail that would give you everything you needed to know for your next steps. Then when you go to the main plant area for your test they point you to your next step. There was no email or phone tag at all.

You have a 90 working day/120 calendar probation period where the post office can terminate you without reason and your union cannot grieve this termination. Depending on the office you are assigned and the postmaster and supervisor, they will generally allow you to have the time off for events you've scheduled during the probation period.
I've been a cca for over a year now in one of the worst managed offices in California. Bust your ass for your probation period and once you make it then you can slow down a bit. Also join the union and go to the meetings in your area, tons of great information. In my office CCAs have a 50% turnover rate, so give it your all but know this job isn't for everyone.

QUESTION: i live in New York. I accepted a conditional job offer for a PSE position a week ago. Did the drug test and regular background check, did the federal background check this week and I haven’t heard anything back about getting fingerprints but my friend who applied with me already did her fingerprints. What do you think is happening? I don’t do any drugs and have never been arrested am I just too anxious?
I would like the cca so not sure if I respond declining rca position or just not respond at all?

Ok what test are you talking about? I did on online. Not sure if that is the same one you’re talking about that you had to drive an hour away for. Also I have not had an interview, but I start orientation on the 30th.
I got a 77 on the test but everytime I get an email from them it’s a rejection cus I haven’t had my license for 2 years am I better off just enlisting in the military doing 4 yrs or just keep waiting for them to call bk it’s been a while the wait I’ll be with an 82 if I go is that much of a difference?

Laura Rowe you have to have a valid drivers license. I’m not sure, but maybe a poor driving record may hinder getting on- but I am not sure 🤔

How long did you wait between completing the USPS Virtual Entry Assessment 474 and getting the email to schedule the Postal Exam 473?
Hmmm... I don't 100% remember, but they were pretty quick with my process. I have heard of people waiting weeks between steps. Just watch your email every day... that is what I did. I hope you hear something really soon!! :)

Hey man got an email 2 weeks ago to do my drug test and background check. Did those 2 the same day. I didn’t read the email that it said that I had to email this certain person to setup a date to get my fingerprints done in the following 5 days. I emailed him yesterday but no response, do you think i screwed up my chances? I scored 100 on the exam and accepted the job offer 2 weeks ago, the same day I received it.

I wanted to work for the post office for two reasons.
1. To be on your own and not having a boss on your back
2. To not have to deal with other people.
Let me tell you...these two points are very common misconceptions!!!! Boy was I wrong. Be prepared for Nazi like Micro Management. I kept hearing the same thing from elder regulars.…"Thank god I'm close to retiring. The belt tightening is getting ridiculous" and they were right.
Allow 2 to 6 weeks for Shipping and handling became...."your order will be here in 3 days on Tuesday the 5th" thanks to Amazon. The old saying "tomorrow is another day" had died. You couldn't bring any missed letters or packages back.
Then came along the new scanners with GPS tracking...and oh boy does upper management love playing big brother with those. I'm half surprised they don't make you get a tattoo of a barcode to put on yourself as a requirement. "we must know when you go to the bathroom, how long it takes, how much tp you used, how many pumps of soap and triple check and scan that you turned off the lights on your way out to save us 2 cents on the electric bill"
And as far as not having to deal with other people....Man, EVERYONE humps their mailbox. Nobody works. There's always someone home watching you out their window or on a video camera. You become a social outlet for every lonely old man on the route. You have to deal with a lot of rough personalities in your own office and management basically like a nun in a catholic school with a ruler in hand ready to slap your knuckles.
It's why you get paid the big ones though. You have to suck all that up in exchange for a paycheck that will just get you by which is more than most places pay these days.
Novaximus I have absolutely heard this. I know you were serious, but I did chuckle a few times reading that.
I worked in an office with my boss always up my ass. I know it will be similar absolutely. I expect that in a job anymore because humans tend to make things harder than they should haha.
I’m 1000% turned on to the idea of not being in an office and moving my body. Walking and not sitting on my butt. I’ve gained so much weight from office life. I feel exhausted doing brain work. I’m ready to feel exhausted moving my body- a lot haha.
You are spot on. My father worked for the post office for over 45yrs and they canned him 10 yrs ago for some stupid reason. I had a brief stint delivering mail as a temporary holiday employee, and you are exactly right about the nazi bosses. They literally drove out to the route I was on in their personal vehicles and pressured me to work faster. And this was back in 2002, before all the craziness of amazon and online ordering. I cant imagine it now. But like you say, the pay is enticing enough, so that's why I am considering applying.

I'm just curious I have two interviews this coming Monday one for a CCA one for an RCA I'm probably going to take the CCA but I asked and they said that I didn't need to take the second exam. I'm not sure why but I have two friends who said they had to take the exam so why wouldn't I have to?

We'll see what they say about the exam, I have a friend there who had to take it. Not sure why I haven't been told to do it
What gets me is i never took the 463 test. A week after assessmenti getan email for background check. Then. Days later i geta call.

Interesting. My whole orientation class was never interviewed or drug tested. We passed that online personality test and then we were employees. Just finished the 1 day defensive driving class and 2 days of orientation and next up is my shadow day then aallllll day driving course and tests and then academy.

I was a little confused about this because I applied for a CCA position and I didn’t have an interview, didn’t take any test, nothing. All I did was accept the conditional offer and submit documents for the background check. Don’t I have to have an interview with someone? I’m not complaining lol I would rather not but I was just wondering.

Your process is very different than mine. I got a chance to take it online and I scored a 95 on the exam.
Noice! I'm glad that you were able to do it online, I feel like that would be so much easier and less pressure. When I took the test it was weirdly formal.
Did everything all I need is my criminal background check...I got a 14 yr old felony for drugs,a marijuana charge les than a gram more than 7 yrs ago..and a recent family dispute got charged with a misdemeanor assault on family but the charge got dismissed due to false accusations..will be ok..I mean in Texas there is a 7 yr law to not go past that for felony’s but I do realize this is a federal job...so do y’all think I’ll be ok or just accept the inevitable..

cheryl Renee I did an online test, then an email that said I had to complete the test at a facility by a certain date. I got finger printed the first day of orientation 💪

Life is a Garden my whole process was way faster than I expected. I don’t remember the exact timeline now, but I think it was within a couple days. It may be in one of my other CCA videos ❤️

Koolin’ With Tee&Corey there was a group of people waiting to be interviewed. And a group of managers walked in. The managers each called us back one at a time. It was one on one and we interviewed with one manager, not all of them.
The managers fill out a sheet a either recommend or don’t recommend who they interviewed and give it to HR who makes the final decision

Sorry for the late reply. I always just go to the USPS.com - the to the careers. There are a lot of ads for some reason and some that charge you money. Those are not the correct sites.

Depends on how they set it up in your area. We had a few days of training at one office then had to travel to another for 4 days. Then I had to wait to do on the job training.

How many days were there between the last background check and your official job offer? That’s the stage I’m at right now. It’s been 9 days so far and I’m so impatient. Lol.
DanishaLorraine I asked the same thing- I will have to look at the dates, but I filled out the final background check on a Friday. Then I emailed the HR lady Wednesday and told her how excited I am and how smoothly things had been going - then I asked her how long to expect it to take.
She emailed me back within the hour and told me everything should be good to go, that I should hear soon. Then I got the actual job offer 20 minutes later. So it was 4 business days for me.

Our HR told us not to put in our notice until we finished the NACL background check and received the orientation schedule. That’s when I put in my notice (which was a couple days shy of two weeks), but I just wanted to be sure- just like you. ❤️
So I think you did the right thing. Some people don’t quit until after their 90 days, but there is no way I can work 2 jobs like that - plus my old job and this one is days so it wouldn’t work anyway.

This is kind of a weird question but for the urinalysis do they stand in the bathroom with you? I ask because I have a hard time peeing when someone is standing there looking at me. Thanks and congrats on your position with the USPS!
It probably depends on the clinic that they send you to do the pee test :)

You can call the HR dept at your local USPS where you applied. It takes some work, but someone can transfer you to someone. If you recieved an email from HR, then there should be a phone number at the bottom of the email

When I took the test it was 3 parts. Easy as F. Part 1 was literally about following instructions. A lady would stand in front of the room and say, "Draw a square on page 3 or something to that effect. Then the 2nd part was just a simple match game. They would list address's on the left side and you would have to find the right duplicate address on the right side from like 10 other ones that had slight little discreptions like a missing number in the area code or "Oak Lane" vs "Oak Line" Unless if you didn't speak English I felt like most of the test was just common sense. Maybe it's different now I have no idea.

NIKE SB yes sir! I applied for CCA AND RCA before I knew the difference. I got an email for an interview to RCA quick- then I got an email inviting me to take the test for CCA.

janelle santoro I’m about 20 minutes from work, but I would drive 40 if I needed to. I really enjoy the job and my coworkers. Is it the same district? You can transfer when you become regular (I think) I make good money, but I work A LOT
