Maybe he should just go with them and clear it up, you realize he wouldn't have been tazed if he just calmly went with them, or idk showed his id so it could be confirmed he wasn't who they were looking for? What exactly would police do in the situation where someone looks like the suspect but refuses to show ID, "well we don't know if its him for sure so lets just let him go" How exactly would you ever catch anyone based off their appearance from eyewitnesses? I don't even like cops at all but in this case it was easily solved if he didn't throw a tantrum. Yeah its not right that he was innocent and got arrested but guess what, someone who looks like him wasn't innocent, should they just let people break whatever law just in case they might inconvenience someone who is innocent because they refuse to show their id? It requires understanding of the fact that people who can legally carry weapons and threaten violence upon you have a degree of control over you that you can do nothing about, so if you have a brain you should minimize the potential harm that is coming to you, if you feel mistreated you should deal with it in the system of law and not by spazzing out and pouting while people with weapons are threatening to tase you multiple times. Reality isn't fair, maybe you should blame the person who committed the crime in the first place which led to police having to detain people? No of course not, they did nothing wrong its the police who are at fault for trying to arrest someone who committed a crime

They never asked for Patrick's ID and god knows if he reached for his wallet to get it they would've shot him to death. It's also annoying watching 14 year old's saying "just comply" to unlawful orders when someone knows their rights. That's the whole point of them and yet chatters are so quick to say just comply. Yeah it really ended up better for him, also its not an unlawful order. Idiots really don't seem to understand that if you have a problem with the system the best way of doing it is not spazzing out when someone has weapons drawn on you. By the way the police are allowed to detain you given your resemblance to a suspect of a crime off of witness testimony, especially when you refuse to show your ID and if you had shown your ID none of this would have happened. I don't even like police and know that they commit ACTUAL injustices, this is not an example of it and just makes people like you look like total mongoloids.

I don't know about the law stuff in NA but even assuming it was an unlawful order, is it worth getting hurt just so that you can be happy that you exercised your right to not yield to an unlawful order? If you know you don't have a warrant why not comply with the cops EVEN IF YOU DON'T TECHNICALLY HAVE TO to save yourself the trouble? It's the effort of getting out the car and telling the cops to look at your ID if they don't believe you vs. getting tased and forcibly handcuffed which both hurts. Yes it's his right to not do that but it is also his right to do it if he so chooses which would have spared him this whole ordeal. We also don't know what the actual suspect looked like...he may actually have a very strong resembalance to the suspect and not just being black. In that case the police would have probable cause to get him cuffed and check his ID. At that point the order is lawful or is that not the case? (again not well versed in NA law...) Unless he was deliberately playing for a lawsuit to get money, which I highly doubt, it is just plain stupid to not cooperate if you have done nothing even if it is legally your right. Just like with traffic. When someone cuts you off, you don't drive into them full speed even though you have right of way do you? You take the L and break and let him drive even though you were in the right. If everyone only did what they are legally required to the world would be even more of a shithole than what we already have. Are you legally required to cut your grandma's lawn? No, do you still do it regardless? I'd hope so, otherwise you're a prick. If we assume that the guy in the vid wants to just keep on living his day, the objectively smart decision would have been to get out of the car when prompted to do so, and tell the cops to check his ID. Whole thing would have been cleared up in 2 minutes tops and he wouldn't have gotten hurt, simple as that. This also means that the decision to insist on your rights at all costs is stupid which often tends to be the case. Plenty of people get killed because of road rage, would you say that it's worth dying over being legally right? If not you admit that being legally right has less priority than your bodily integrity which in turn applies to this scenario perfectly.
EDIT: My ADHD ass was too impatient to keep watching the video, we actually see the guy they were looking for. On the pictures the video showed they don't really look alike, however the lighting IRL may have played a big role in fooling the officers. The woman that approaches the scene (I believe she somehow knows the guy being arrested) even suggests by her mannerisms and tone of voice that she agrees they look alike in that moment (when the officer asks "Are we wrong?" instead of denying and saying they look nothing alike, she hesitates to deny that they looked alike.)

How about don't be a retard? I don't even like cops but you make it so hard to defend when you have a problem with literally everything police do when people spaz out and resist arrest and refuse to show ID which would have cleared up this issue, I know you have issues with authority so some cop telling you to do stuff is just unacceptable to you so you think the best course of action is to freak out and reach for their gun immediately. Its just funny how people like you undermine actual rights issues by crying about the most easily remedied problems as if some imaginary system will protect you in the moment that people with guns are telling you to do something. If you had a brain just like the people in this video don't, you would realize that the only possible way to do anything about it is not in the moment you are being arrested or asked for ID, its after the fact in court. and you resisting and spazzing out and refusing to leave your car when ordered is just making it worse for you, if he gave his id he would have been cleared. But I guess its too hard to let a cop tell a nija what to do huh? as if he knew what his rights are anyway, and even if it was a violation of his rights, nothing in the moment he did to resist their demands would help him in any way.

For anyone who may have a run in with the cops in the future, you DO have to provide ID if they ask. I know xqc was kinda joking about the probable cause being black, but unironically the probable cause is that they thought he looked like the guy. So they would be justified in asking you to ID yourself, though they didn’t this time. Them not asking for ID & tasing him is where the lawsuit came from. If those 2 things didn’t happen there would be no money and Patrick probably would have been criminally charged

This comment is not the whole truth; Laws that mandate someone show their ID to cops when requested are called "stop and identify statutes" and while many states do have them, the majority of states (27) containing the majority of the American population *do not*, meaning that you legally are NOT required to present an ID to police.
It is your choice whether or not to exercise your rights, but contrary to what the above commenter believes it is not mandatory to present your ID to police for most Americans, *even* if the police officer(s) have probable cause to believe that you have committed a crime.

The quote was "Noncompliance with a "stop and identify" law that does not explicitly impose a penalty may constitute violation of another law, such as one to the effect of "resisting, obstructing, or delaying a peace officer".
This is 100% correct, the key phrase here being" noncompliance with a stop and identify law that does not explicitly impose a penalty...."
They're only talking about states that have stop and identify laws, hence non-compliance, and how said states could go about prosecuting refusal to show ID even if the actual stop and identify statute has no penalty, but none of what you posted applies to the majority of states where there is no stop-and-identify statute whatsoever.

If someone is too stupid to understand basic logic of the fact that someone has a weapon and you have to do what they say because you resisting or not complying is not going to make them give up, then I don't really think they deserve to have things seen from their perspective, its really just about his ego being broken from having police tell him what to do. Like I said there are many actual violations of rights and life by police, but this is a terrible example and just makes people who think this is a good example of police brutality look like spaced out idiots and completely undermines the actual civil rights issues.
