► The countryside is generally thought of as a peaceful place that allows one to escape the stresses of everyday life, at least for awhile. You’d like to think that given lack of people in areas like this, they’d be relatively safe, and I’m sure they are for the most part. However, I’ve come across a number of unusual disappearances in which young people have disappeared right from their garden; only for the searchers to find things that puzzled them.

Hey all, just managed to get this video finished sooner than usual. I came across 3 strange disappearances, all of which took place right besides farmhouses, in the sense that young individuals disappeared right outside of their homes, only for the searchers to find things that puzzled them. Do share your thoughts with me, I read all of the comments.
Also it's finally Friday! Be safe all.
Also also, if you're reading this I hope you have a great weekend.

I will never fail to be surprised that people are continually gobsmacked by the idea of a child taking off all their clothes. It's actually something kids do. A lot. Very common. Keeping certain kids from stripping down into little wild beasts can be an ongoing challenge for a lot of parents.

I did exactly the same thing in 1963 when I was two years old. We lived rurally and one day, I tore off my clothes and walked off into the woods. My mother eventually found me a quarter mile from the house, naked, face down in a stream by a single stone footbridge. She found me when she saw two legs pointing up in the air and pulled me out. Two year olds are called "terrible twos" for a reason. My two year old Godson drowned in a pool right around 9/11 when the family lost sight of him for a few minutes. He was found face-down in their pool and they were not able to revive him. He had learned how to over-ride the pool alarm, climbed in and drowned. They quite literally wait until you are not watching, then run off to do crazy things.

Sometimes I wish they were a bit more specific. The first child was 100 yds. from home, disappeared, then was found 440 yds. from the house. Which way? Did she go past the house, making her total travel .5 kilometers, or what. It was raining. Did she turn towards presumed shelter from the rain? After action reports in the newspapers suck. The info could prevent another child going missing, or increase the chance of one being found. I have been involved in things, that have been written up in local and national papers. Rarely are they accurate. They don't appear to teach that in journalism schools.
However you have done another outstanding video Adam. Your attention to detail and empathy, shines in what you do. Makes my day, thank you.

The four salvage vessels and oil boom are digitally removed. Not one report mentions the five Salvage Masters, who successfully removed it from Bligh Rock, without the loss of any oil, then toiled 37 days, and made it seaworthy enough, to go to SD, for repairs. Why? That is just one example, and always puzzled me.

They couldn't find any injuries!!!!!!!!!!! Were they Stephen King character kids who stopped her heart with their minds!? What a weird thing to think for no other reason than "Kids can be evil." Kids can be mean, sure but that doesn't mean they are evil! I am sure I have been a little shit to other kids when I was a child, but i was certainly not "evil"! Good point.
Kids can also be very quick to lie about little things things as they don’t realise their significance in a bigger picture and are afraid of being punished or shamed for doing something wrong.
It could be as simple as they didn’t want to play with her and drove her off by some means; she went to play alone and became lost.
In a child’s retelling, looking to avoid blame, “we told her to go away and she left” easily becomes a white lie of “she decided to go home.”
There are an endless trove of tales of adults becoming rapidly disoriented and lost in forests that show how easily it can happen.

The Smoky Mountains are weird too. They create their own weather, especially in the summer months. When I lived there if storms were far off to the west you could watch the mountains suck those clouds in. It can quickly go from a nice summer day to a complete deluge within minutes. In 93’ we watched the weather go from mid 70’s to below freezing and snowing within hours. People were hiking in the mountains in shorts and t-shirts the day before the blizzard rolled in. The weather people didn’t see it coming. People froze in Cades Cove due to be so ill prepared. 14” of snow on the ground within hours of the storm starting and people unable to get to their cars.

I understand that it sounds weird when someone is found in an area previously searched but my first thought is "why do you assume that they were sitting still?". Children may even hide from searchers because they are scared or think they are in trouble. That being said, the farmer's story about finding Carolyn was a little odd. He had already searched that area and found nothing and that made him think that she might be there? Of course that could just be bad reporting but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

    • @MissingVoidTV

I think when it was said that "He found nothing and made him that that she might be there" ---- I think it may have been referring to the idea that the cows weren't were they should be and that made him think that someone might have been around that area. I'm not 100% though, it certainly wasn't phrased very clearly or even in a way that made much sense

    • @carolyns99

@@MissingVoidTV Yes, that's a possibility - wondering afterwards why the cows weren't where he expected them to be then getting that little niggling voice telling him to go and look again. I expect it was an impatient reporter trying to summarise a conversation and doing it badly because Mr Almendinger was trying to explain his thought process and all the reporter was interested in was the exciting bits, as it were. Kudos for pronouncing Carolyn correctly, by the way. Having spent my life being called Caroline and hearing Carolines being called Carolyn it is something that I notice!

I can't believe parents let there 2, 3, 4, 5 year olds etc outside by themselves??? I know times were different back then but come on now that's so young. But for the first story I do think something not normal happened to that girl she could see her house from where she was and had done this many times. Something isn't right. It reminds me of creatures using family members voices to call them out into the woods...

    • @ianmacfarlane1241
      @ianmacfarlane1241 2 роки тому +21

Attitudes were simply different back then.
If you lived in a rural area, nearest neighbour a mile or two away, and you told the kids to remain within eyeshot of the house... that's how people lived.
Remember there was nothing in the house to keep kids entertained - you couldn't plonk them in front of the TV when you were busy, and thousands of kids did this and were perfectly safe.
When I was 7 - 11 years old, (in the late 70s) I'd walk home at lunchtime from school, (around 500 yards, crossing 6 roads, let myself in and make my lunch, before heading back to school) and after the age of 8 I'd have my kid brother with me (he was 3 years younger).
My Mum did work 2 minutes away from the house, but I was trusted to take care of myself.
I'd even use the cooker 😂 to make beans on toast or scrambled eggs.

I never shared this story before because it was a tad terrifying to me as a child and I wanted to lock it away in the vault but one of the stories opened the memories. I was a young lad mabye 10 or 13 it's been a while so it's foggy but I do remember the incident very vividly. Me and my best friend were exploring the woods by my house as we always did when suddenly I felt something strange and my friend bolted of chasing after what looked like a shadow to me being to as a kid by my native American family not to be too curious in the woods I didn't want to follow but I was afraid for my friend so I chased after him. He was as fit as me and so it took a second as he was a ways away to begin with finally I got to him an tackled him and told him to stop we can't catch it. It's trying to lead us astray that when I realized we were almost in a completely different wooded area it was thicker and older trees and a much larger area the wood next to my house were small before to got to house or the road on the other side. That is when I told him this isn't good. We walked for a while I'm the direction I knew we came from but for 15 minutes was nothing and I knew we had walked far enough then all of a sudden I saw the shadow if full detail my friend said it looked like a fox and this one looked like a fun x and a woman in a white dress almost it. Later on my friend told me his was black and didn't look anything like the white one we both saw. It stopped and looked at me. I asked it to let us pass as we meant not to upset it not knowing it was a different one. It looked like it nodded and then the forest was normal and right in front of us was the exit. Now I've explored that little wodded area my whole life and even got a topographic map of it there is not that many trees and not that much land for us to have ran like that or walked back. I still make sure to clean the woods around my home and not to venture to deep ever again.

Hey Marie, I'm a one man team and it's basically impossible for me to make anymore than one a week (and even that's a struggle sometimes.) The research (scouring old newspapers and google) can take a long time, the writing then takes ages too because you have to collate everything in such a way to flow nicely and make sense. After that I voice it, which also takes way longer than it should because I have to de-yorkshireify my accent a little bit so that people abroad can understand me better. Finally, after that comes the editing and there's no good way to plan time for this. Sometimes I get up at 7am and still won't be finished by 9pm. Others times it's done in 4-6 hours.
Maybe it's time for me to bring an editor on board 🤷. It's hard because I really like doing it all myself haha

I have tracked my fair share of game in all kinds of weather and terrain. I can give you a few basic pointers on tracking.
The first being that even if the ground was frozen, since it was raining, there should have been shoe/foot tracks or slide marks visible on bare dirt. If there was no bare dirt, it might have been a little more difficult, especially if someone didn't have tracking experience.
Vegetation would have been pushed down and being wet, it would have likely stuck that way with some of it springing back up slowly, over time.
In the case of pine needles or other debris covering the ground, there should have been visible marks where the earth underneath the covering had been kicked up that would likely differ slightly in color from that of the surrounding area. It would depend on how long it had been. Dirt that had been recently exposed would likely have either been more dry or wet than the surrounding covered earth, depending on time and amount of exposure to rain. By brushing some of the nearby debris from the dirt, the color difference could be seen more easily but it would be wise to pick a place underneath a tree if there was one available, to compare the possible track to the still covered dirt. A strong rain could potentially wipe that out as a viable source for tracking, which is why you'd want to choose a covered area if there was one in such a place, to examine. There may also be a notably stronger earthy smell present due to freshly exposed damp dirt.
If there were any mud puddles, one could tell by the cloudiness of the water in the puddle how long it has been since it's been stepped in. Water filled indentions can be used to get a more clear outline of the type of track or at very least, a vague shape and size.
If the ground underneath was frozen, it would have complicated things a little but there are other types of markings to look for in that instance.
In other words, by all rights there should have been some sign that there had been recent movement through the area. It could be that a child's tracks were mistaken for animal tracks, being as they are small, but if one was to get down and examine them the tracks should have been discernible. As I said though, it would take someone with at least rudimentary tracking skills to take note of some of these things, so it may be that they had just missed tracks if they were subtle or hidden by underbrush or vegetation.
With all of that said, I find it odd that they apparently did not find any tracks. It's not like children that are lost are going to intentionally try to hide their paths and there should have been some evidence of a child having moved through the area. It's not impossible that tracks or markings were overlooked but again I wouldn't think a small child being lost and perhaps a little panicky, wouldn't have left some visible signs of having went through the area. That's just a little weird, in my mind, that there were reportedly none.

Well answered. And air temperature being freezing, doesn't mean the ground is frozen either. I agree there should have been tracks. Maybe the girls tracks were lost in the tracks of the multiple searches?

@@brandyjean7015 Yes, it wasn't clear if the temps were frequently at freezing or not, so I just included how it would look if the ground were frozen. I think most people know what a track looks like if it's dry, haha. I would hope so, anyway! I didn't want to go any deeper because some things, you just have to see to be able to effectively explain them. Like how water in a muddy track clears up over time so you can tell about how long it's been since something moved through. I'm glad someone else knows what I'm talking about, I didn't want to come off like I'm making up stuff for internet cred. Thanks for commenting!

I think the first girl (especially since she only had the brain functions of a 5-year-old) simply got confused on the way back to her house during a rainstorm, where visibility was probably low and it was dark outside. It's possible she did not see her house, quickly became cold and tired, laid down in a brush pile for warmth and fell asleep and never woke up as temperatures dropped. Reasons she wasn't seen during the initial searches could be that she was likely partially covered by brush, therefore someone could have walked past her body by a couple of feet. I don't think there is really anything that mysterious about it. Sadly, a lot of missing people (not just children) end up being found close to their homes, or they became lost in places they know well. I do find it strange that some missing children are found alive, days later, somehow managing to survive extreme conditions.

Yes being 100 yards away is far enough to be completely lost. I person in Hawaii got lost when she stepped about 10 feet off the trail, she was found days later. People really underestimate how far it is to get lost in the woods, she probably thought she was fine to go off and was lost from there and ran around, getting further lost and probably making circle like patterns so she never made progress.

First case: My initial thought is that Bonnie saw something interesting (maybe an animal) and went to look at it closer or follow it which could have put her out of sight of her home. At that point, it would be incredibly easy for her to have panicked and gotten very very lost. Second and third case I don't have much to say on. Parents need to be watching their ***toddlers*** especially. Though, with the second case, definitely would agree that it seems she was taken then returned. Probably by the dude in the yellow car. Idk why adults brush kids off when they talk about other adults being creepy 🙄 this is part of the reason so many awful things happen to kids. Gotta do better and listen to them

I think it’s possible that Bonnie was walking back to the house and something could have caught her attention-like an animal, a rabbit or a cat-and she might have followed it. It might. It have been far before she didn’t know where she was anymore. I sort of think this could happen pretty easily, that she could have wandered a short distance and been lost or disoriented, and at those temperatures she could have lay down and curled up for warmth and gone to sleep pretty quickly.

Miracles do happen. That said, in many cases, a child is more likely to survive longer than an adult when lost in survivable conditions. They say the reason is children haven't learned to anticipate completely. Adults have which gets them into trouble. Bcuz when it doesn't pan out, grown-ups get frustrated, probably take more chances, and maybe panic. But kids are more used to not knowing what to expect which increases their survivability.
