Just the negatives this time... Dizziness if i don't hydrate and replace electrolytes, a little loose skin. I'm Cold a lot, but have found that wool base-layers are a life saver. Restaurant wait staff service, may be lousy since you don't order much to eat or drink. Kidding aside, the clothing budget is a killer, Pretty sure Ive spent well over $1,000 on new clothing. Its not just shirts and pants. its coats, underwear, shoes (yes, my feet shrunk a size, as my arches raised back up). i have not lost significant hair like many others, but its a big risk. Start your biotin supplements right when you begin preop diet, not after surgery, stay away from grocery store vitamins, and purchase a high end $35 per month+ multi vitamin. Acid reflux is a huge risk. It didn't affect me, but it might you, picking the right doctor who performs the Inverted Sleeve will reduce (not eliminate) the risk here. Another negative side effect... Don't become a horrible person. I've observed a few post op patients who have been big their whole lives, and for some reason feel the need to become condescending, proud, arrogant, and feel the need to redirect all of the hurt that we've collected all of the years back at others. Don't criticize what people eat, how much they exercise, or tell people how they need to do something about their weight. Be kind to everyone.

helpful Scott! I'm about 16 months out and the cold all the time is the hardest thing by far. I by clothes on eBay and at Goodwill so that's how I deal with that :) I'd point out that not everyone experiences all these effects - and even if they do this is still worth it -hands down - it beats the crap out of being extremely overweight.

My mom had R&Y and her dentures became too loose. She didn't get them refitted (or new ones made) and wound up losing too much weight because she couldn't chew. So, if you have dentures, eye glasses, or other prosthetic bits, make sure to set money aside to have those refitted.

Everyone is different man, my friend for the most part has had minimal side effects and problems. He is around 5’11 and weighed 428, he’s now down to 268. He said it’s worth it, no regrets. It’s all about doing things right, following the plan. I am about 6’1 316 right now, got my orientation soon, I’m going through with it, hopefully 180-220 lbs by the end, I’ll be happy. Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate it.

I watched and laughed along with this video pre-op and made a note to myself to re-watch this when I got to 6 months post-op. Well here I am....6 months out, down 132 since start of my 2-week pre-op diet (112 since surgery itself), and every damn thing in this video rings true. The lack of hunger, the lack of sweating, the being cold all of a sudden, not needing my CPAP anymore, not being afraid to sit in chairs, not being winded through normal activity, my wife being able to hug me all the way around, improved romantic relations, etc. I am so happy to be able to empathize with all these "side effects"!!! Thank you for helping motivate me.

Be careful of drinking you will have very little tolerance and can get drunk on a 1/10 of what you may have ever drank in past. Stay on aggresive diet because YES you can stretch the band ans put it all back on. Rheir arent ant videos from people that stretched the band and put it all back. I dont think you do this easily it would be pizzas but candy and ice cream is still easy to digest as the uogurt and protein shakes. On protein shake check carbs some are loaded with them some that tasye just as good have only 6grams

@@jvjdrn I’m like 10-11 weeks out from surgery and I’m doing well! It hasn’t been easy, I’ve always been a fast eater so breaking that habit has made things harder then they already are. My wife is still bitter, and she seems to refuse to compliment me on my weight loss. And any time I don’t feel good after I eat she’s quick to rub it in my face. It’s been a lot of adjustments, but I am very happy I stood my ground and did this for me. I just believed with all my heart it was what’s best for me. Still got a ways to go, I am down at least 40 pounds… but again it’s been very challenging, as well as rewarding.

I had VSG in 2013. I have had very little side effects. I get heartburn more than I used to. Eating really dense foods i.e. bread, beef short ribs etc. results in heartburn. I haven't had any weight gain. My appetite is reduced but that is what I wanted. The gains from the surgery far outweigh the negatives.

Happy Life do it! Don’t let anyone discourage you by saying you should lose on your own, blah blah, most of them have never been fat or know how difficult it is for some of us to lose the weight. What matters is that you’re making the change to lose weight because no one is going to do it for you. I have two more nutritional classes to go, my psych eval and hopefully I get my surgery date around February-March. Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂

And, mostly common sense. The best advise I can give is take lot's of vitamins and drink lot's of water for your skin. I weighed 132 and now weigh 120. Picture is 2 yrs old. Good luck and hugs to all of you.

Wow! Just wow! Even being female, I can relate to almost all of this. Almost 25 years being morbidly obese, I have had enough. It's going to cost me a shed load of money, but I have decided enough is enough. I want to make the most of the rest of my life & see my daughter grow up. Fairground rides, sweating and disability all impacted by my inability to stop shovelling junk in my face. I never feel full, am always hungry and when I'm not eating, I'm sobbing my eyes out over my lack of control. Consultation in 16 days and I'm nervous as heck BUT your video has inspired me. You’ll be able to eat more after a year, so you’ll still need to watch your eating habits. I had skin removal surgery and that was very tougher go through but it was worth it.

Just watching your video here in August of 2019. I have been contemplating having the surgery and part of my personal process of evaluating anything is to gather information and listen to what people who have had the experience have to say. I have to say that your life experiences mirror mine, and I guess anyone who has been obese. All of the feelings that you have had (The Airplane especially), where spot on. My BMI is 54, I'm 59 years old and im just sick and tired of being fat. It makes me sad to be stuck in my own body, not being able to enjoy life as much as I see others do. I want to be able to have the intimacy that you describe with my wife. She is my life and I want to spend as much time with her as I can. Thank you for sharing your story, I wanted to let you know that your experiences and your insights have helped this person make an important decision in his life.

This video literally brought tears to my eyes. Like others who’ve already commented, I saw this video and passed it up a few times because of the title, but I knew I needed to know everything I could before going forward with my choice to have a weight loss surgery done.
You are funny, endearing, informative, and adorable (Darth Vader impressions in bed XDD)
So far your video has been the ONLY video that mentioned the one thing that made me start my journey- my feet.
I have had plantar fasciitis for almost ten years. Nothing helps. It stalls me from everything in my life that would help me loose weight. I currently work three jobs and at the end of the day I can’t even play with my kids or clean my house.
This video will be the reason I go forward with my surgery.

My surgery is in June, 2019. I just started this process in December. I don’t know which procedure I’m having because I want to keep an open mind and choose, with the help of my surgeon, the one that is perfect for me. I loved watching your video, and hearing some of your tongue-n-cheek side effects. I am SO ready to experience them.

Thank you so much! Yours has been the best video for me in connection with gastric sleeve. This is what I’ll be getting and everything you’ve shared has been so happy for me to hear.
I am so ready for my blood pressure to go down. For my body to be only in my own space. For clothing store employees to be super nice to me for the first time ever. To be able to not have food consume my life anymore.
I think for men and women it’s so different. A restaurant is used to women not eating a lot. And taking food home. I love sushi and I can eat $50 worth by myself. And still be hungry. I cannot wait to actually be able to eat and just enjoy the food and savour it. And be done. I am so tired of feeling like I just am never full.
My highest weight was 330. I’m now at 285 and I just can’t seem to lose the weight. My bmi is 43. Im 5’10.
The only reason I am at this point and have decided on gastric sleeve is because my back is crumbling. I have arthritis and degenerative discs. I can’t exercise to lose weight anymore. And I use a cane to walk. I have tried intermittent fasting. Keto. Liquid only diets. I’m 38 and want to be around for my 9 year old son.
    Thanks again for your video!

It will get easier. Looks like this was from 1 month ago, so if you're in recovery... you've figured that out. but I have heard that the timing is different for everyone. Some people feel that fatigue and tired feeling for months and months. I have a friend that is going through her journey and it took a solid 5 months before it went away. I was fortunate enough to start feeling the energy come back with in 3 months, and I felt electrified from there.

I don't tell anybody anything. NOYB. I got such non-support from a few family members I just said forget it. I am taking it slow, this is a TOOL not a magic procedure. I am happy with 1-2 lb loss every 10 days. I did this to get my health back on track... Thanks to fellow UA-camrs who keep me motivated.

Lisa Gunnison I’m in the same boat. NONE of my family want me to get it. They think I’m being lazy and am thinking that the sleeve is an easy way out when it’s just the opposite. I, too, have just been bombarding myself with UA-cam videos. They say I’m not that big to begin with. I’m 75 lbs over my ideal weight for my height. They say there’s people out there bigger then me. No shit. That doesn’t magically make me thinner and healthier! I hope you are having good results.

Scott, thank you for this video, it is a true incentive for my intention to take the path of weight-loss surgery, for which I waited far too long. In fact, I am scheduled for VSG in December 2019 and the more videos (mainly on UA-cam) I watch, the more I look forward to it. Your video has clearly defined the outcome that I am hoping to expect from the procedure, and I am grateful that there are people like you sharing their honest and informative testimony about their VSG experience. I am a baby-boomer and considerably older than you, and almost my entire life has been a weight struggle such as you described it in your video which seems to be a very realistic representation and I wanted to thank you for sharing the change that you have gone through after your surgery. My weight is far higher than yours at your worst moment, my BMI is horribly beyond 40, and I am currently experiencing an increased portion of all the symptoms that you have described in your video. Hence, I so much hope and pray that I can accomplish my goal and reach my target weight because I crave for another decade or two of a far healthier life. Thanks also for the tip of start taking biotin prior to surgery and swap out my supplements for a high-end multi-vitamin. And yes, Kindness matters, always! Thank you!

Scott, a heartfelt thanks for a down to earth, candid report of the everyday things you have encountered since your surgery. Especially for touching on the impact on the sexual side of your marriage. You really touched my heart when you spoke about your wife being able to finally put her arms right around you. You spoke about many real, every day things that so many other people who make these videos just seem to ignore. Would it be possible in a future video for you to report or for your family members to speak about how all of this has affected them? How they saw you then and now. The differences they see in you, your personality, outlook, family activities etc, the things that they feel are a positive and if any negatives of your surgery and weight loss? Congratulations on your amazing achievement and informative video. Please continue to keep us updated. Your a real inspiration. Thank you again and God bless you and your family.
