You picked a good time to ride the trail. The October weather was gorgeous. It turned cold and snowy in November. I usually start that ride at Sand Harbor on the South end, then on the North end, use that marked and lighted crossing to continue on a bike path that goes West through Incline Village. That path crosses from the North side of the road to the South side, about half way along. That makes about 12 miles, round trip. If you drive to 64 Acres Park in Tahoe City, you can ride the Truckee River Trail out to Squaw Valley, cross the highway, and continue up the valley on another path. Out and back is about 15 miles. The Truckee River Trail is part of the larger Truckee-Pyramid Trail, which isn't complete. I've ridden from East Sparks to Verdi and back. Between Mayberry Park and Verdi, it's road. The trail is a bit tricky in downtown Reno. Also from 64 Acres Park, ride South to Meeks Bay, which is about 35 miles out and back. The Meeks Bay path follows the West side of Lake Tahoe, so the scenery is just as nice as the East Shore Trail. I just got an ICE Adventure trike at the end of September, and have put about 750 miles on it, so far. It's such fun to ride.

Thanks very much for the local insights, Joseph! Next time we're out there, we'll have to take a longer ride...and get a "Hoss Burger" at the Tunnel Creek Cafe. I'm guessing it doesn't bear any resemblance to the original Hoss Burgers that they served at The Ponderosa when it was still there, but I guess it's the closest we can get now. :)

Nice to know where to start the trail. I think if this parking lot belongs to the restaurant and nice person should ask the restaurant for permission first or park in the trails parking lot provided. But 200 miles from Sacramento to ride 6 miles is hardly worth it. There are bike lanes/ trails along many miles around the lake that is if you don’t mind the stresses you have ride on the hwy. the road or hwy around lake is always busy , may I suggest after after this 6 miles ride place your bikes back on rack head for Tahoe City visiter Center there you will find a bike lane out Emerald Bay State park you can ride just a bit further to spiration point then return to your car. In Tahoe City just two of the many was to enjoy cycling Lake Tahoe.

It doesn't look to me like the parking lot belongs to the restaurant, as there are pay by the hour parking meters that spit out a ticket for your dashboard. I may be mistaken, and this pay to park meter deal may have just been for the spaces along the road where we parked. I'll have to pay more attention next time to see what's really going on with the parking. @@bikestrikesrazors Only one other triker where I live and he is a 20 mile ride away from me. Not even a Trike dealership in Saskatchewan. Have to go to Alberta to get my Trike. Getting a Performer JC70

When we first were getting into trikes, we had a long drive to get to the closest dealer and he was just working out of a storage unit. Congrats on the Performer! They also make a cool lowracer.

@@bikestrikesrazors The performer X Low L looks like it would be a good bike to enclose in a shell and squeeze out some speed on top of an already fast bike. You would want retractor dollies to get going with it though.

Why only two trikers? Wouldnt it be more fun if there were more?.

There are lots of trike groups in different areas that do hold trike rallies and such with lots of trikers. Rich and I are usually "triking" with just the two of us, as we're typically "working" shooting a video or trying to set a land speed or distance record, which isn't considered "fun" by most sane individuals. :)

Where can we get a trail map??

      Hi,
If you Google "The Best Bike Path in Lake Tahoe" you'll see a link to "TavelAwaits", with lots of information and, I believe, a clickable link to a map.
      Thanks for watching,

So... you have to have a truck to haul your trike to this trail..? what if you don't have a truck.. how can you get a recumbent trike to any of these places..?

      Hi,
Thanks very much for watching! You don't need a truck. They have car racks designed for trikes.

@@bikestrikesrazors I don't have a car either.. I ride my recumbent trike daily.. and i ride it everywhere i go.
I sold my car years ago in an effort to save money and get exercise. if the only way to get there is by a car or truck, that limits cyclist (only)from access. We should be asking, what the heck are we going to do when they outlaw all the combustible engine vehicles .. Most of us can't afford a $60k e-car, and to be frank, you would also need to stop multiple times along the way to charge it up to get to the destinations.. We cyclist need to be pushing for bike lanes on every road to give everyone access..
enjoy your ride.. I wish you well.

@@rdkuless What they should really do is outlaw all motorized vehicles and make everyone ride a bike/trike! We'd have to move away from a commuter based society, have more centralized cities, but it would be great for the environment and everyone would be in a lot better shape! :)

It's at the bottom of that message thread, but here you go so you don't have to search it out. :) "They're both doing OK, but they've gotten to the point where they won't ride unless the weather is "just right". It's hard to blame them, as it's been so cold and miserable here lately, it's hard for me to get motivated to get out for a ride. I know, I'm in California and to me "cold and miserable" means high 50's with a light wind. :)"

nice video but you two were inconsiderate occupying the 3/4 of the trail, forcing other riders and pedestrians to the edge.

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  Рік тому

Thanks for watching, Peter! I think the camera does a good job of making it look like there's less room on the trail than there actually was. We certainly do occupy both lanes of the bike trail at times (for the sake of shooting the video) but one of us always falls back as soon as we see someone coming to make room. It was very difficult to actually do this on this video as this trail was crazy crowded.
