    Thanks for sharing this video! This trail is like home to me, and I commuted often to and from downtown Sacramento using the trail. You even passed by my old house on your way to the McDonald’s on Arden Way. And yes, the best part of the Willow Creek Trail at the Jamba Juice and Dos Coyotes. I’m currently nursing a torn thumb ligament and can’t ride my upright bike for at least 6 weeks. Have been looking at recumbents because there’s light weight bearing on my hand. Your video was enlightening in terms of the POV on a recumbent and quite enjoyable for all the views and commentary. Thanks again!

      Thanks very much for watching, Mary Anne, and I hope your finger heals up quickly! Don't know if it's worth investing in a recumbent for just a six week break, but if you can find a good deal on a used one, they are a heck of a lot of fun. :)

    I think I might be the guy with blue bike and black riding shorts that you flashed by on the Guy West Bridge in Part III. When coming back from the campus, after you've cycled up the curved ramp, just before you get back on the bridge, you can turn right onto a section of paved trail that will take you back on the other side of the river. It will take you to Watt Ave., where you can cross back over to the official trail. But just as you leave the campus, just as you pass under Howe Ave., you can turn right and take a short detour on La Riviera Dr. to Gordito Burrito. There's also a Ny Gyros and Philly's sandwich shop, a Mt Mikes Pizza and a Tea Bay. There's also a McDonalds and a Taco Bell, but I can't imagine you'd want to go there with all the other great options available. 😁 You can get back on the trail at the Howe Ave. River Access and it's paved all the way to Watt Ave.

    I buy a parking pass and check the box for them to use the fee for maintenance. I live right next to the trail so parking in the park is unnecessary. Since the passage of Prop 13 park funding gas been difficult, sure would be nice if folks supported the parks.

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  Рік тому

      Good idea! They used to have small boxes that allowed you to make contributions to the trail but they took them down. I suppose they were likely being broken into. I had no idea the parking lot money went toward the trail!

    Question for you Boss , I see your wearing Pearl Izumi shorts , did you remove the Chamis .
    I have a bunch of old shorts and tights but I don't ride anything with a saddle. So far I did remove the padding on one pair of tights but my chamois is one of the thick gel types and looks funky and isn't comfortable when riding the trike .
    Bought some compression shorts but the legs ride up and don't look or feel good . Just curious about your experience

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  3 роки тому +1

      Hey, Jason! I just left the inserts in all my shorts, mainly because I haven’t had any problems with them while riding trikes/recumbents, but they’re all pretty minimal inserts. I can see how a large gel type chamois might cause problems. There are some companies around, like Boure, that sell shorts and bibs and give you the option of different chamois so I’m sure they’d sell a pair with no chamois. My brother just reminded me that he picked up some “workout” shorts which were basically like bike shorts with no insert and I’d bet you could find those for much less than standard bike shorts. If you find something like that that works well, let me know!

    I really enjoyed your video but haven't yet watched the entire video. I've learned a lot about making videos and the extreme importance of narration. What I would really like to see, however, is your setup for taking these videos. What equipment does your buddy rider have to get the shots? Fairly new to Catrike riding a helmet camera is steady but just doesn't get the views I want and it's really hard to keep my face focusing straight ahead. Mounting on the front boom arm was to shaking to stabilize. I think securing a selfies stick on the rear frame would be too shaky and wobbly. So I'm interested in your setup.

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  Рік тому

      Hey, D! I think there are two tricks here- stabilization and hand holding the camera. You can achieve stabilization through the use of a mechanical stabilizer (3-axis electronic gimbal) or through in camera, digital stabilization. We use both methods. We either use a large Canon DSLR camera mounted to a large and heavy Moza Air Cross 2 gimbal, which is admittedly a bit overboard, or a small, light, Ozmo Action camera (first generation) on a small handle using the camera's internal stabilization. Both look a little different (all video cameras look a little different) but both work just as well. You can even get a 3-axis mechanical gimbal for your phone camera. Whatever type of camera you're currently using, just do a google search for 3-axis electronic gimbal for "_______". If you want to go the internal stabilization route, Ozmo cameras have it, and most GoPro's starting at the GoPro 8 have it (7 is a bit questionable). Before buying any GoPro model for stabilization, check to see if that exact model has it (GoPro 8 Black, etc.). It's hard to get good video mounting a camera to the trike/bike or helmet. Luckily, a recumbent trike is a virtual "pedal powered dolly", so you can easily steer and brake with one hand and hold the camera with the other. You'll get much more interesting video hand-pointing the camera at different things as you ride by, changing the camera height and angle, than you will with a static mounted shot. Hope that helps, and good luck! Oh, also, when you post your videos to UA-cam, makes sure you always have the words "Recumbent Trike" in the title. You'll get lots more views! Joe

      @@bikestrikesrazors Thanks a bunch, really appreciated. Motorized gimbal is beyond my reach or need.
      Actually helmet is pretty stable for me, but don't know exactly where it faces. I use a small Canon G9X. It gives me 60 fps and some internal stabilization when I need it. What I look for also is a way to work my drone videos with riding. Thanks for the tip on adding "recumbent trike" to my video tags. Dave

    For a beginner and comfort which one is better a catrike dumont or ice adventure

    • @bikestrikesrazors
      @bikestrikesrazors  2 роки тому +1

      That's a very good question, Ariel, because those two trikes are very similar in a lot of respects! They both feature full suspension and the ability to fold, and very comfortable seats. The ICE is around a thousand buck more expensive from what I can see, so if you're in the mood to save some money, I don't think you'd be missing anything by going with the Catrike. The ICE trikes tend to be a bit more "blingy" and the new seats on the ICE trikes are likely a bit more comfortable than the Catrikes, but is that worth the extra money? And who can say what would actually be more comfortable for your body? The absolute best thing to do would to be to find dealers in your area where you could try out both of the trikes and see if either "speaks" to you. Do you have any dealers in your area?
