Thank you for this video! Question: my laser head will not rise above the tumbler. Just keeps hitting it. Was there an offset setting you entered that you didn’t put into this video?
Don't you answer questions ? Some seem important to the operation of the unit as you miss giving important info. Like tumbler size ? Do you need to raise the unit ?
I like the Polar, it works great. It really comes down to what you want to make. If you plan to make smaller items (11" X 20") and tumblers, the Polar is GREAT. If you plan to make bigger things, you may want something with a larger cut area or a bigger passthrough. Hope this helped! ~garrett
my rotary spins the item around to the opposite side when you engrave. Do you know what the problem might be? It makes it harder to know exactly where the artwork will end up.
YES! I tried to do my larger tumbler and had to slide 3 pieces of of 1/4" mdf under each foot. BUT it came out awesome! The connecter cable for the rotary attachment should be a few inches longer, but it worked.
@@KimandGarrettmakeit I had just realised that the polar is really not that deep (5cm). And i wondered if it can be lifted. Technically, could I lift the machine(as high as required) to engrave even larger items than a tumbler? I like the 60w but I have an home office so a beast like that is a no go. Would appreciate your opinion. Thanks!!
So wait, you’re working with metal, which the manual says not to do, i read another comment that you weren’t specifically “engraving” it but more so burning the white (paint) part off, so then are we to only buy tumblers that come already coated in colors? I’m about to get my Polar shipped soon and was excited to personalize tumblers and reading that you shouldn’t use any metal was a bummer.
I have been unable to get my gantry to align with the cup on the rotary. Stays stuck in far right. Then shows a red status light. I am just not sure waht imnfmdojng wrong. All your steps have been followed. When i hit frame nothing happens and get a message that it is having trouble communicating w controller? 🤦♂️🤷♂️
I’m reusing a tumbler to figure out settings, so I have markings all over so far. But as I start a new one, I try to put it in a blank area from Lightburn using the camera control. But once’s it starts, the tumbler rotates and then it’s writing/engraving over other stuff I’ve tried to do and not the black area anticipated. I manually place it on the rotary for a blank area but then it’s turns and it’s engraving over something else. I hope I explained this better lol
hey guys I would like to know if you can help me... I have a small piece thats about 4" long and .875 wide that refues to cut on my cricut exporer 2 but it has Very intricate ends let me know how I can contact you if you can help me
Thank you for your tutorial! It helped me set up the rotary on the Omtech. Videos of my water bottles are on fb. Fine line engraving. MSFINELINE Engraving
Ah, the secret steps per rotation that varies with tumbler size! You've uncovered my hidden technique. Don't worry, I'll spill the beans and include a caption in my next video. Thanks for keeping me on my toes! ~garrett
Very Helpful! thank you!
Best video ever! Solved my problem 100% THANK YOU!!
Please do a video of how large of a tumbler you can do and how large the design. Thanks love you guys
Experimenting is learning 👍
Agreed!
Would settings change based off of the tumbler you are using?
Good morning guys. That tumbler came out great. Just a heads up. I listen on head phones and your music gets a little loud. Just saying. 👍🏻
Noted! Thank you for looking out :)
how did you focus the laser on the tumbler?
Thank you for this video! Question: my laser head will not rise above the tumbler. Just keeps hitting it. Was there an offset setting you entered that you didn’t put into this video?
Came out great.
Thanks!
How do you know where to focus the laser at?
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
What did you do about focus? (z offset)

We did not need to raise it for this tumbler (20 oz), but we did need raise it with some MDF scrapes when we did the larger tumbler.
@@KimandGarrettmakeit Thanks.!
Thanks guys, I am going nuts trying to find out which machine to buy. They all have problems of some sort.
So you like Polar the best?

XTOOP P2 IS GREAT FOR TUMBLERS! Might be a bit more pricey but easiest machine I have used for tumblers
Thanks for showing us how to figure this out! Is it just an optical illusion but is the tumbler moving up and down as it turns?
it is.. you can tell by the score lines.. they should be perfectly parallel but they are off in the tests
Where do you get your tumblers if you don't mind me asking? My polar arrives in a little over a week and I am so excited.

Are you using xTool Design Space or Lightburn? Lightburn has two places to check for the rotary. Is the rotary facing the right way? (just checking)
Thaank you. I have been waiting for this video. Did you have to adjusted the focus height?
Looks great. Top tier Patreon support gift❓️❓️❓️
Does the rotary come with machine or do you have to buy separately
Did you use the 2.5 lens or just the usual smaller one?
You guys are flicking scientists lol. My head is ready to explode lol
Could you raise the machine to do larger diameter tumblers?
YES! I tried to do my larger tumbler and had to slide 3 pieces of of 1/4" mdf under each foot. BUT it came out awesome! The connecter cable for the rotary attachment should be a few inches longer, but it worked.

so u cant do 40oz tumblers?
Is this a sublimation tumbler?
Where can i get the rotary tool 🤔

CO2 lasers can't "engrave" into metals, they burn off the coating.

I can't figure out where my test runs will end up? Is there a way to find this out? Every time I do a test run, I end up testing over over testings.
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean?

Do you have your laser hooked up to an exhaust or out a window? If not, do you just not get a lot of fumes with the polar?
We actually attached it to the Glowforge filter. Thanks! ~garrett

Seems tedious nothing is easy with this brand laser. I really regret getting this brand.
I'm so confused, I thought you couldn't engrave metal on a Omtech Polar? I'm such a noob LOL
Metal was not engraved. The white paint was burnt off.
@@tooldad6852 That makes sense, thanks.

Why not just look up which stepper motor you have and then you would know how many steps per millimeters it is
We tried to look it up, we weren't able to find it for this rotary tool anywhere on the OMTech website.

maybe a little caption that your steps per rotation varies on which size tumbler your using...
