    Followed your tutorial and was able to get running today as someone entirely new to lightburn and omtech. have always used a glowforge, so the tutorial made the transition fairly painless. The only things I would add is that I couldn’t get connected to my Macbook running the latest software first due to the fact that only a sub is included, but Ethernet didn’t see it and usbc to usb cable didn’t either so will have to troubleshoot that later. But thanks to my husband he built a lightburn bridge and now it’s working with my mac. Also, I had to go to window to add one of the views you had that didn’t default, so might be helpful to add that step for people that have a totally new lightburn instance. Also learned gfci outlet was not friendly with the polar- after a minor heart attack of why my laser shutoff minutes into the cut. Would encourage everyone to read the manual start to finish (it’s a quick read) in addition to this video to get going. Also a camera tutorial would probably be useful for new users who want to engrave on something existing and centering, etc. that’s next on my list today to figure out then the rotary

    Why not let Lightburn control the power up to 100%? The *purpose* of the potentiometer on the back of the machine is to *calibrate the laser output to the software.* Here's a much faster and easier way to set the power on the machine: With the potentiometer in the off (left most) position, draw a 75x75mm square in Lightburn and set the layer to fill. Set the speed to 100 mm/sec and power to 100% and start the job. Now turn the dial on the potentiometer clockwise until you see 20 mA on the display; stop the job and you're done. You can now use the full scale, 0-100% power in Lightburn safely, and know you will never be able to over-drive the tube by mistake.

      Thank you for the advice. You’re not wrong. The video would be much longer and I encourage people to understand the point of the power line test as many people have more than one laser or will need to replace their laser tube as some point where mA limitations aren’t always the same. This video id just to get them started. We can do another tips and tricks video here soon that include fine tuning your machine.

      @@EdmondsWoodshop Well I thought my way is actually a lot faster. My point was how to use the potentiometer correctly to keep the tube safe.

      @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don’t disagree. The good news is there’s always room for improvement or future videos. Understanding both the power line test and adjusting the potentiometer are important. Thank you for commenting. i really enjoy your videos.

      This sounds like a smart move, I’m going to try it. Just wondering though, without seeing this video and knowing that 20mA figure, how would you have found that out with your proposed method?

      Well I did this. And guess maybe why I have a hard time cutting. I get 19 mA and thats it at full potentiometer position.

    Have you cut acrylic yet. As a wood turner, the laser would be handy for cutting templates.

    Big question for you guys at OMtech. When the tube needs to be changed can we the customer change it ourself or do we have to ship the entire unit like a Glowforge? Because shipping it is not practical or an option for many of us.

    Is it compatible with CorelDraw ?

    • @omtechlaser
      @omtechlaser  5 місяців тому

      Hello there we truly recommend converting the files created in the CorelDraw program to an AI or SVG file and importing them into LightBurn. LightBurn software works best with the polar unit as the program will ‘talk’ directly to your laser without the use of additional software.
