I even tell people that those early seasons were the most respectable! It actually was more of a DRAMA series. Even though the plots were often stylized, they did seem to generally focus on situations and interpersonal dynamics that REAL county lifeguards would probably go through. After Shauni and Eddie left, little by little the show became much more of a tepid soap opera with convoluted relationships.....at best! Or ABSURD plotlines and rescues (e.g. a few of the girls doing a Charlie's Angels parody; the team looking for a mutant alligator, etc..)😣 at worst! If the show would have stuck to the same overall tone/format of the 'Eddie and Shauni era', I think the show would have had a MUCH more respected reputation.
@@Steveman27 Possibly. But, believe it or not, I'm a Trekker! 🖖 So believe me when I tell you that the first two or three seasons of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.....are actually considered the WORST part of all three of the series! 😆
What makes me laugh is that with all the comments about “Babewatch,” there’s only one “babe” in the second season: Erika. The rest of the cast is Billy Warlock and a bunch of old guys: Hasselhoff, Richard Jaeckel, Monte Markham. It wasn’t until season 3 that they doubled down all all the young women. I missed Eddie and Shauni. They were played by decent actors and actually had some depth. Nicole Eggert was a suitable replacement for Elaniak, but don’t get me started on David Charvet, who was a total block of wood and couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag.
@@jaredjlinden Remember that scene where Stephanie pulled Matt Brody under the water during that lifeguard training when he made her mad and she almost drown him? It would've been cool if she accidentally drown him and then she resuscitated him with CPR.
When they left this show went downhills.. i hate the fact actors get paycut.. show going downhills because of this.. all the good actors leave and afterwards you realise how it would have been if they didnt leave.. imagine eddy kramer, shaunie and craig not leaving and just like mitch stayed the whole journey.. wow.. that would have been sooo amazing!!!
@MrHoppers002 i loved the first two episodes in season 3 the goodbye episodes of eddie and shaunie when they went camping with mitch and hobie and the first appearance of cj in the show.. but it was a sad moment at the same time.. cort came back, garner came back and also craig came back but eddie and shaunie didnt and that was soo sad!
Billy Warlock almost reminds me of Michael J Fox, I mean MJF was born to be Marty McFly but if they had cast Billy Warlock I believe he would of been great
It went from a network show (nbc) to syndication. Think streaming in today’s world. Nothing compares to network tv. Also I’m not sure how Baywatch popular was during it’s first season. It became the biggest show in the world in later seasons
@@L1RW Syndication basically means that instead of a show being exclusive to a single network and shown at a particular time it can be sold to individual stations. Those stations can do whatever they want with the show. I’m not sure if syndication is a worldwide thing tho. Its basically why many shows sometimes get 5+ seasons despite the ratings because a network show can’t be sold into syndication until it reaches 100 episodes. Think reruns of older series.
I thought the show was best in its early years and really liked Billy Warlock and Erika Eleniak. But from a business standpoint, the producers were smart to keep the cast rotating (with the exception of Hasselhoff) so no one’s salary got too big. And I don’t think Warlock and Eleniak and Parker Stevenson got steady, series-regular work after the leaving the show. Stevenson even returned as a recurring guest star years later.
Erika, Billy and Monte left because of the direction the show was taking not due to money. Holly (Gina) was written out because Parker refused to resign because of Money so kinda made her role pointless without her on screen husband. Parker obviously quit because of the paycut. Cort was dropped due to creative storyline differences (which he later returned) Brandon left because he felt the show wasn't hitting it with the audiences from the first series (a decision he has stated he regrets) Shawn (Jill) was killed off for a storyline dramatic effect. Peter (Trevor) his absence was never explained. Michael Newman was more of a backstage crew for first 3-4 series as he was Baywatch's real life lifeguard. Ben. I believe was simply written out. It's funny that the show as a whole might have gotten more popular as the years went on but the show from 1989 to 1992 was simply better in terms of everything from storylines to characters, from relationships to friendships. Nothing will ever beat the first series in my eyes. Simply the best. From 3rd episode of series 3 right to the shows end it was just about TNA and not about actual gripping stories. It lost it's heart, when Parker and Holly left, it lost it's soul when Billy and Erika left. And just became oversexualised. When I think of Baywatch I think of Mitch, Eddie, Shauni, Parker, Cort, Gina, Thorpe, Ben, Newmie, Hobie (Brandon), Jill and Trevor and not Pamela f'ing Anderson. In my opinion the most iconic Baywatch star was and will always be Erika Eleniak.
I thought Brandon didn’t come back because he was already on Step by Step when S2 eventually started filming. And he grew significantly. He went from looking like a 9 or 10 year old to like 13 or 14.
What if you had to accept half of minimum wage, literally billions of people work for pennies a day (spoiled bastard) The reason they offered them less money is because they wanted them to leave, they were fucking them on purpose its not about money its about not letting someone fuck you.
I don’t blame them for leaving. A 50 percent paycut is significant. Too bad though because the best seasons were with the Eddie and Shauni characters.

Can't get enough of my prince charming Billy Warlock. Jealous to high heaven that Julie Pinson has taken him already--DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
Billy Warlock looked about 16 at 30!
He looked more like 27.
@@Steveman27 here he’s actually in his 40’s
@@rampageclover9788 He looks good for his age. Maybe he took very good care of himself.
He looks super young and good, not handsome but cute. But there's no way Billy is 5'7". He's practically dwarf size.
I know, Right?! He looks so good here. He's a very good looking man.
My second favorite actor for AJ Quartermaine in General Hospital with Sean Kanan being my most favorite actor for AJ.
Shame Erica and Billy left, they where great,as well as Parker and the girl who played his wife.
Where can we watch this full interview? It's in bits and pieces.
They did their final 2 episodes in season 3 and said "peace out." It sucks tho that they left the series cuz of money pay cut.
Thanks for the upload..!!..XD..Did you know that Billy's Warlock father is Dick Warlock the Hollywood Actor and Stuntman..??..XD
50% pay cut?
But I thought it was the biggest show in the world. Baywatch must've been raking it in.
I bet they didn't cut Hasselhoff's pay though.
