On my 16 STI i went with the invidia catless dp alongside a 38 mm external wastegate to eliminate any boost creep. obviously pro tuned and other supporting mods but the rasp of the catless dp sounds amazing to me.
For the exhaust set up on my 19 STI, I'm running the Tomei catback, Tomei ELH and the Invidia Catless DP and yes, I've seen those stock cats 15+ sti's being sold for a pretty pretty penny. Love the vids bro.
Apologies for the long message in advance.... I'm new to the STI platform and have a question in regards to the up & downpipe. I have several big HP GM LS & LT vehicles ranging from 630whp to 1,017whp. So in no way, shape or form am I trying to build this car, but want it to run the way it should once the real tuning starts. I recently purchased this STI to replace my Focus ST, which was my daily. Immediately, the STI became the far more fun to drive vehicle than the ST ever was, and can corner nearly as stable as my CTS-V3. Long story short, the STI ran good with the patches the used car dealership done to sell the car or the previous owner stripped it before selling it because there are signs where an AOS would've been located, or possibly a DP by looking at the broken zip ties. The car currently has the SRS non muffler axle-back "and sounds great", Cobb Carbon Fiber Intake, and an OTS map. I recently replaced the turbo inlet due to half of it being mounted onto the turbo with the bottom nearly halfway in the turbo itself, so I replaced it as well with a Perrin. Car ran fine for a few days, but the PCV valve that I thought I cleaned up pretty well stuck again. So, it's torn down again at the moment to replace with a new OEM piece. While I have a lot of the shielding off to put new clamps on the turbo drain, I want to know if the DP and UP worth it? More than likely I'm going to go catted since I don't want it excessively louder than what it is, but wanting to cure the well known problems that exists, along with the weight, and bulkiness in itself. Is it worth the money, what's the typical whp gains, and overall driveability/reliability of the car afterwards? As far as the DownPipes, are there any benefits with the divorced DP and the standard DP? At the moment I'll be keeping some type of recirculating BOV. May upgrade once tuning, but don't plan to vent to the atmosphere. Understand that the FP may have to get upgraded, but hopefully you can tell me yes or no. But the car will not see E85, and only pump 93.... Will the Injectors be enough for those few boltons? 2019 STI Base where I've heard that the 2019 STI will throw 02 sensors regardless. Any info on that? & thank you in advance for any info provided.❤
If it's not a track car just go with hi flow cats and viceversa, earthlings will thank you cop's will leave you and you'll have a peace of mind. I think this is the best way to go 👌🏻
Hi man! amazing video!!! I have an s3 8v and I want it to sound louder without having a drone. I was thinking of putting an IE catted downpipe on it, but the smell of gasoline bothers me, what setup do you recommend? thanks and regards !!!
I have a 2021 sti, stock, would you recommend just doing an accessport, tune and catted downpipe as 1st mods?? I hear the CAI dont add much over factory setup.
@@Autofreakgarage thanks for answering, very helpful! If I remove the first cat, would I also have boost creep? I had soot problems on my STI and the recommendation was to removed it haha.
Went with the Invidia catted a little while back because it was on sale and my old Perrin downpipe developed a large crack. Definitely would of got the Grimmspeed for the Gesi and Wideband bung if I were to do it again
Yessir I'm in Jersey as well gonna be installing a catted downpipe paired with a cat- back valvetronic non resonated exhaust plus Jb4 tune on my 21 Acura TLX TYPE-S, so if I can get it to sound close to these Subarus I'm on the right track
Okay I have a question! So I just upgraded from stock to the Cobb stage1+ kit (stock downpipe) and about a week after I now have engine codes for the front and rear 02 sensors. Is that something normal that you had to deal with? Is there a better replacement for the 02 sensors?
Ya rn for exhaust I’m only running a r400 catback and I’m pretty much stock with just a sf Cobb intake and a Cobb port. I want a downpipe that wouldn’t be a headache and with no worries about boost creep or anything. Any good catted downpipes for the 21 sti? That would sound nice with a r400 catback ?
Hard to tell since I changed the headers as well when I put my dp on. But either way, it’ll increase the volume since it’s more free flowing and larger diameter.
I have a 2020 subaru wrx sti. I am considering going with a grimmspeed catted downpipe. How soon after do I need a tune? Is it safe to drive for a couple of days until I can get the tune?
im tuning my g80 soon i have GESI catted active autowerks down pipes my main concern was loosing potential hp gains because of it. What do you think the difference in hp will be more or less between catted and catless after the tune? im hearing different numbers. paid almost 4k for these out the door now im having second thoughts thanks
Very minimal between the two. Gesi cats flow extremely well. The only benefit you’ll get from catless is flames. Otherwise, barely any power gains between both these days.
Just different placement for the best flow for the downpipe. Every company uses a different car, so it’s positioned in the spot where it is most effective in both emissions and flow.
I bought a 2015 STi last month keep getting p0420 code even after I replaced the o2 sensor only at 92k miles. what would my best option be? I currently use an accessport so I couldn't get the CEL tuned out unless I unmarry the AP3 and go open source? Am i better off getting an OEM downpipe for $$$ or what aftermarket would be best since im not sure they make them for 2015+ anymore.
What are you running for fuel upgrades I’m running perrin intake and bypass valve which are both no tune required if I go Perrin divorced catted downpipe would I be fine without any fuel upgrades for a bit until I can afford fuel upgrades with a accessport since it will be catted divorced
Hi .. i have a question so i f i get the grimmspeed limited catted can i only tuned with my accesport or i need someone to tuned for me ?? Last question wha does it means when it says its divorce downpipe catted ?? Thankz
You can run the Cobb OTS maps that are on the accessport. A pro tune/dyno tune will always yield better results though. Divorced means the two openings of the down pipe and separated instead of 1 large inlet. Do a quick search on Google between the two and you’ll see the difference.
I just went through emissions today in CT with a Delta Motorworks catted DP (one high flow vs two in the OEM DP) and a tune. They do a visual inspection to make sure you have a cat, but not as strict as Mass. I believe most tunes disable a code that will pop if you aren't running an OEM downpipe.
Great video man. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a catless downpipe (2016 WRX), but the smelling is terrible. A catted downpipe would be worthy to improve it? Or, alternatively, use the oem intermediate pipe and just remove the first cat would be a good solution? Thanks a lot
Catted DP all the way! Far to inconvenient for most people trying to get their car simply inspected in states that require it, if you live in a non inspection required state then lucky you.
