The tube is one of my all-time favorite baits. It's tied on EVERY outing. It's the secret weapon that's no secret at all. Most anglers know about them but very few seem to throw them.

Whenever people talk about tube fishing I get selective hearing. Until someone show me on video targeting largemouth with tubes I will dedicate to getting tube tackle. Everything relating to tubes is always fish I don't have in my area smallmouth. Great vid Matt 👌🏿I do have tubes because of T.B but I really would like to some vid dedicated to tubes catching largies

Why not experiment? Matt said they rep bottom baits like craw dads. Because everyone thinks the same about tubes and LMB they haven't seen a bunch. You'll prob slay them. Swim it, drag it, hop it. LMB aren't that smart.

I know this doesn't make any sense but I'm going to say it because maybe others feel this way but the reason why I don't fish tubes is because I think they are ugly! When you fish a fluke they look so d*** sexy in the water. Even a wacky rigged senko looks delicious to a bass. Wonder what other weird weird habits folks might have that are not logical!?

Yes, my favorite is tube fishing!. I finished all those techniques pretty much but here in the north west. Especially the snake river. It’s rocky rocky and more rocky. You get snags all the time. The best for me like I said, for me. For the most part I use tournaments style tubes, on a 1/8 ounce or a 3/16 oz. Rugby VMC jighead. I can hook it weedless and it goes through the rocks good and I just nail ‘em. I don’t lose any fish either. Pro bass shops used to make some tube weights that were hollow in the middle with a hole on the side that you can put a hook through with no visible weight. I don’t think they make that anymore. But that worked well also. The Rugby jighead, it’s still the best way for me though!

This is a great video explaining tubes. I live by the great lakes, and man. People who haven't fished the great lakes for smallies r missing out. And what matt and Tim talk about up north, its true. One thing that I do different with tubes, is throwing an eagle claw jig hook. The crappie jig heads, those work great if u know how to fight fish.

Yesterday I was scouting a new spillway with 2hrs of play time. Managed to get one smallmouth on a zman chartreuse chatterbait with a 4in white keitech. I was popping and letting fall. In my head in telling myself today I'm pretty sure these fish were pressured. So I threw something I thought was different. I managed but it's crazy that the tube is a forgotten bait. Going to load up on tubes because I don't have any and it should crush them.

Never fished a tub before yesterday and was out at our pond and decided to fish a tube . 10 pound braid no weight with ewg hook (what was I thinking) and a white tube. Clear water so I could see this bass; wouldn't take anything I put in front of it until the tube. Cast it out twice and she ignored it, but the third time..... BOOM. Wish I could add a pic; 22" small mouth. Yeehaw! Think it's the only one in the pound.

Was funny I went fishing 🎣 on Sunday found the bed by shore line loaded with baby bass. I tried different flavored trout eggs because the bass are small. Some nibbled on trout eggs but most didn't touch them. Then I tied on a drop shot an used a strike king zoo too an the baby bass flocked to it. Sadly the bait bigger then most. I caught 1 but as I set the hook on the drop shot because bass was too small to get zoo too drop shot bait into his mouth

I always thought the best part of Tubes is it attracts multiple species. Maybe not a huge bait for the bass crowd up in the Great Lakes, but lake trout anglers swear by them. I'll cast out tubes near to grass lines in the afternoon, or vertical jig white tubes at sunrise/sunset nice and deep for lakers. It's a very versatile bait!

If I’m running a tube setup, I agree, use the best/most sensitive rod you have. Smallies in Michigan are just animals to fight back to the boat. Smallest line I personally used was 8, typically running 10.

Just want to add a couple things going with the tubes is also very versatile bait. Trout and walleye love tubes big trout especially! Nothing beats a bait that you don't know what you might catch. Also you can tip your tubes with a bit of nightcrawler and you will get more bites.

hook in the pike's mouth, pike in the net.

Hey Matt I throw tubes all the time and I catch as many largemouth with tubes as much as I do with senkos. That sandy color is my best color, I dip the tail in chartreuse and they eat it up. And that gobi style works great on largemouth too. And I always fish it with the exposed hook.

Just caught a 4:15 Smalley this morning on a green pumpkin purple copper fleck three and a half inch too on my second cast. :-) I think the biggest thing I struggle with when fishing a tube is whether I should be cracking a tube or dragging a tube. When are the best times to do each technique? Lastly, if you're looking for a great little finesse tube head, I came across the new company called Great lakes finesse and they have a really small tube head built for the two and a half inch finesse tube with a super stout hook and a really cool jig head style to it, but I think fishes those finess tubes really well. You should look into that tube head because I think it fits what you like about the inhaler which is it's got a really stout hook on it. Thanks for the video and tight lines.

Great video Matt. I grew up an avid fisherman over 50 years ago and tubes were not common back then. I left the US over 30 years ago to work overseas and then returned to the US six years ago and took up fishing again so I missed out on the early tube craze. Here in Florida they are not common except for saltwater fishing where they resemble squid. I will definitely try them out for bass fishing and let you know the results. Great detailed tips as always. Keep it up!

Most of my life I fished in lakes or ponds for largemouth, panfish and catfish. For bass I Used lizards, trick worms and buzz baits mostly.fished a creek by my house with panfish and spots that loved 1-2 inch crawdad baits. I went fishing in a creek I heard had smallmouth, didn't catch anything fishing like I did for largemouth, caught a good few on the tiny crawdad. Just looking on eBay I saw 2 3/4 fat tubes pearl with silver flake. Thought that looks good. I caught over 20 smallmouth the first day I used them. Weightless on a 2/0? Straight Worm hook, sometimes a small sinker in swifter water. Consistently caught fish with that bait for a year till I moved

Could you use a crank bait casting rod to do this or is it just spinning gear

Little off subject, but I’ve been hearing great things about Jewel rods. You got a opinion?

Are you guys still using 15-30ft of leader on spinning tackle?

With such lite line do you find you have to re tie all the time. In these northern lakes (not Great Lakes) with rocky bottoms and zebra muscles I don’t think 7-8 pound line would survive more than 5 or so retrieves before getting all nicked up

You’d be surprised. Depends how jagged the bottom is. Just run your fingers on your line real quickly after each cast

Re tying a lot up here 'cause a guy can't afford to lose $9.00 a piece dark sleepers. (I'm a frost-back canadian)

Sandy colors up north…. Is this regardless of whether or not a Great Lake/Gobie Lake? Does a smaller bluegill lake in Michigan still call for sandy color?

No, We use several different models. Unfortunately because of outrageous shipping costs, most big nets have become nearly impossible to get. It costs more to ship them than to buy them.

@@tacticalbassin LOL, try buying a couple hundred gallons of diesel to fuel your truck?

The cost hike I'm referring to happened last year. But on that note, it did take about 270 gallons of diesel to shoot videos last week. It's brutal for sure!
