- On March 30, 1988, the 2nd Annual S.T. Awards was held. Prince and Michael Jackson faced off in 2 categories: Album of the Year (Male) and Best Single (Male). Prince's 1987 album was "Sign o' the Times" and Michael's 1987 album was "Bad". Unfortunately, neither Michael Jackson or Prince could attend the awards show.

Maybe one day yall would stop comparing them and let two phenomenal artists co exist.
Unfortunately that's the generation we live in today. Everything is a VS competition, & people are obsessed with comparing everyone & everything.
"The Purple Yoda" and "The King Of Pop" had different goals for their music. The Music Industry, Mainstream Media and fans pitted them against each other. Some fans liked both while others preferred one over the other. In the end Prince and Michael Jackson respected each other and admired each others music. It was a shame though they never collaborated. I believe the "Batman Soundtrack" was their best opportunity.
I will always say this Prince and Michael Jackson should have collab with on the Same album they should have did a duet together I'm disappointed and very upset to the two kings Rest In Heaven

Bad album was a solid album , Liberian Girl is a classic song , I love the bad album probably more than Thriller but Thriller is a classic and my favorite is Off The Wall , But I heard Signs Of the Timez by Prince and it’s a great album, MJ sound appeals more to me !!

Clearly, Bad was more commercially successful than Sign of the Times. Both are great albums that stand the test of time, comparing them is hard because they are too different. It is a matter of personal taste what you like best.
Sign 'O The Times stood the test of time. BAD only sounded good for it’s time.

@@y2kcell bad still sounds great and even the remastered verison , i only heard one prince song for the SOTT album on the radio and that was adore! Meanwhile everywhere I go I hear some song from the bad album , places like the mall, shoe stores ,fairs , basketball games, football games etc. That album is still relevant today probably up there with thriller album
On Bad, I liked The Way you make me feel, Liberian girl, smooth criminal and Man in the Mirror. The rest is kind of meh.

He was, indeed, on tour somewhere in the Midwest.

Prince & MJ both released new albums in 1987. Prince released “Sign o' the Times” and MJ released “Bad”. Both artists were considered “rivals” then, and because of that, there was some comparisons and debate in 1987/88 over which of these 2 albums was better. It's hard for me to choose between the two because I'm a fan of both MJ & Prince. I like specific songs from both albums.

There's simply no comparison. Princes album is okay, but pales in comparison. BAD is one of the most iconic and memorable albums ever, and the music videos for that album rival anything ever
They were both great but overall I like Michael's hits better than Prince's. He had more songs that I liked. Atleast From Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous. Prince's albums were probably better than MJ's other albums, but not those albums.

Wow hate to say it but truth of the matter signs of the times beats bad.. I want you to go listen to both. Prince album sounds futuristic still. Bad sounds like 1987.
Sign ☮ The Times was way ahead of its time. And it sounds like nothing he did before, especially if you listen to his before albums. But still BAD AND S☮TT are still my favorite albums from those 2.

Nobody remembers SOTT, and it wasn't very famous. Smooth Criminal, BAD, dirty diana, man in the mirror. Hit single after single. SOTT isn't even close. Prince will never be close to Michael in any way, it's sad

The thing with Luther is that although he was a phenomenal talent, his only performances in Number One Pop Hit Songs were as a background singer for the group Chic in the songs "Le Freak" and "Good Times".

Sign O The Times reissue is a flop. In the UK it dropped out after one week and in America after 2 weeks. The public was done with him since 85, and only sold 3 million copies, it’s just critics.

Naturally, I guess. Michael Jackson had AT LEAST FOUR albums that outsold Prince's BIGGEST album, Purple Rain... Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad and Dangerous. Bad sold nearly double the number Purple Rain did. So it would, of course, have been difficult for Sign O' the Times to beat it (no pun intended).
We are talking about quality. MJ only had 3 good albums (Off the wall, Thriller, Bad). Prince had a lot of amazing albums (Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Parade Sign O the Times, LoveSymbol, The Gold Experience), all of them produced and arranged by Prince himself.
