I do like that HLA depicted Striders as a bit more mobile, in that they dig their feet into buildings to climb things. Makes em a bit cooler and scarier.

Imagine just chilling in bed and your housemate (since let's be real, it'd be a lot of communal living in city 17) just gets skewered through the fucking wall, and his broken body gets dragged outside as the synthetic beast pulls its leg out of your apartment to spontaneously devalue someone else's flat.

This is exceptional work. You perfectly encompassed the feeling of City 17 devoured by war. I also loved your use of the more advanced strider movement seen in Alyx!
This makes me want a Source 2 remake of HL2 even more than I already did.

@@sagittarius9298 Yes and no. Valve isn't. The same modders who did Update are, but its not on Source 2. Its on the CSGO version of Source 1 and likely isn't going to be that visually different than the base game. Mostly just improved lighting and effects, and most importantly, Steam Workshop support.
I LOVE the fast, stabbing motion of the legs on the strider! Really does the way that they walk justice.

Dr. Breen: I have negotiated with an alien force known as the Combine to spare humanity from total annihilation while also making me the supreme leader of Earth.
Also Dr. Breen: This story about a lungfish will get my citizens to stop rebelling.
You kind of get the feeling that Breen thinks he's talking to people along in a room with them, and not to people engaged in battle out on the field. The very instinct he decries in a earlier speech would make people deaf to his pleas in this one.
Maybe he's hoping to catch people during a lull in the battle or something. This video does a good job to illustrate how out of touch he seems compared to the situation of those on the ground.
Breen just really likes palaeontology and wanted an excuse to talk about it
I love the last part where when the strider dies you can hear all of the resistance members cheering like it is a great victory. When in reality, that one strider is one of trillions across all of the combines controlled planets.
yup, the horror that they put amongst the resistance is quite disruptive
To me it feels almost sad, the strider is an enslaved species of the combine and it sounds more like it's in pain when it dies
Meh it's became thousand on earth when the resistance already shut the super portal in ep2

Taking them down at all is already difficult, so it's sort of an achievement

valve has all the ressources to make it happen but yea... we all know why that won't work. I love and hate valve... but I guess the valve we have right now is still much better than seeing them turn into EA.
@@Mr_Dizzles to be honest, valve said that they want half life games to be innovative and as cool as a remaster would be I don't think it would be something that fits that description, but hopefully the new half life 2 remaster by the people who did half life 2 update will be good

always loved the tone of this section of hl2. dr. breen explaining his cold immoral logic over speakers while the combine just murder everyone. it perfectly encapsulates the horror aspect of the game.

Man, you've done it again. The HL:A version of Striders are so much more menacing and intimidating than the original HL2 depiction. I love how they made them able to actually climb buildings. Not to mention how much more powerful their weaponry looks now in this.
You're by far the best hl2 S2FM animator out there, please don't stop making these! They're absolute masterpieces.

the strider in HLA is basically looks the same as the one in half life 2, just remodeled to modern standard and textures, but yes done to do different things then what was limited in 2004

I'm still gutted they changed the noise of the Strider's autocannon. It had such a unique sound in HL2 but now it just sounds like a generic machine gun
They made construction strider climb buildings, we don't know if normal striders will do that

What is Breen supposed to do? According to "Epistle 3", the combine is so incomprehensibly more powerful than humanity which is evident because they literally have a dyson sphere giving them energy (and probably one of many). They defeated and put the entire world's military might into submission in only 7 hours. He has no choice but to make deals with the combine.

I've always loved Battle-Ruined City 17. I would love to see more of it in future installments of Half-Life.

@@Galorchs In reality there is something left in City 17 after the meltdown, some buildings stand up most of them are in the outscares of the city, but the downtown is completly gone

You can see in HL2:E2 (the ledge bit near the train) that there is still an extensive urban jungle remaining in the ruins.
However, good luck getting there without some serious protective gear. Not even your HEV suit is gonna protect you from all the radiation.
one of the scariest backround sounds you can hear in hl2 is what sounds like hundreds of people shouting and fighting, then a massive amount of gunfire followed by utter silence. i think about it alot.

Striders have ALWAYS been my favorite half life creature. Something about the three legs and robotic alien design are just so iconic and they’re a great functional piece of combat equipment!

When source 2 eventually becomes more open and available for devs to work on, I hope a team of professionals does a crowbar collective and remaster or remake Half-life 2, even if they don't do the episodes, just the idea of source 2 ravenholm, or source 2 nova prospekt is chilling

Man the strider walking like a wall spider is one nightmarish scene, great job on the animation
I really love all the extra stuff happening. Soldiers moving on the bridge, dropships all around and of course the Strider moving along and fighting. Plus I love the bonus of a Resistance Member firing on a damaged Strider.
It's really amazing on how much you made happen without moving past that 1 camera shot and angle. Same reason I loved your video on Kleiners speech.
I love how you can see the Resistance slowy winning when the strider finally gets taken down and Dr. Breen's speech malfunctions
As much as I regret not getting to have the HL2 Beta, the retail version still has one of the most original visual world styles I've ever seen. This is such a breath of fresh air to see it again in such detail. My eyes had gotten used to the original source engine so it's nice to see it again like it's the first time.
Now, I really want a Half-Life 2 Remake looking like THIS in VR.
Now THAT would be EPIC.

Extremely good. I always wanted light, simple software that had scenes like this being simulated in the background, with lots of variations but low intensity of activity, kinda like a Demoscene/wallpaper hybrid. This is really good and inspiring!

If you could remake all those backgrounds from Half-life 2, and be able to expand them with more content, more drawing distance, more atmosphere, more oppression and invasion by the combine with it's technologies, more alive by humans and aliens, it will be a dream come true for now.

Yeah, the HL: A Strider, Manhack, and Scanners sound like Bayformers. They had unique animalistic sounds in HL2.

I wasn't paying attention fully to the scenery, When I saw the combine on the right side with the flashing red light I thought I just got jumpscared by Dead-pool

I have never seen the Combine so accurately and terrifyingly depicted. You really know how to make a horrifying backdrop to show the Overwatch as they truely are, a brutally efficient and oppressive hyper-technologically advanced military force. Great animation!!

I feel bad for the striders, something about them makes me feel like they would have been gentle creatures if not for the Combine. They sound so sad when they die which is a very good contrast against how frightening and dangerous they are
@@drpompo I think striders and other synths were scrapped projects from other planets or species that got augmented Into robotic creatures.

Wow, wow, wow. The level of extreme detail, the sounds. This is some next level Half-Life content, the best I've ever seen on UA-cam...period.
The camera angle with the city reminds me of the street combat segment of the level "eviction" from Call of duty World at War (specifically how they showed a segment of that in the main menu)

After my dad showed me the half life series my favorite character out of all the series was the strider and I love seeing people use the strider in unique ways like how you did here. I also love how you put the detail of it looking around the rest of the area before continuing on it's path. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to show my dad your content aswell
When you take the lines of breen's speeches into account I can see how he isn't completely the bad guy since he's hoping that the transhuman forces might give the combine a reason to keep humanity alive

The most poetic thing is that the speech completely contrasts the reality. Instead of the dreamlike ascension to the stars described in the speech there is nothing but broken concrete, ash and cancerous growths of alien structures. Humanity died long ago, this is just it’s rotting carcass being slowly devoured, and scraped for anything that is of use to the Union. Truly depressing and captures the feeling of half life perfectly.
Half Life 2 remaster with these graphics? I would by it again without the slightest hesitation. This game DESERVES a comeback.
