    I will never not take an opportunity to talk about how absolutely terrible ARES is. Their products are a let down, but even worse is dealing with their customer service (or lack there of) and warranty. The gearwrench set is one of the few Apex tool group products I was actually considering, though I didn't like that it was just 2 sizes with different lengths. I ended up going with Astro Pneumatic's (really wish you'd give them more spotlight) since they have a 3rd size in theirs, plus Astro is one of my go to companies cause they make great products.

      I haven't had any issues with ares but then again I only have a few products from them and they are mostly like organizers so I haven't had to deal with any of the warranty stuff from them but that's pretty common when it comes to companies like that, that you see on Amazon that aren't well known and sold everywhere unfortunately. But ya astro pneumatic makes some great stuff. I will definitely try to include more stuff from them. Idk why but I always forget about them. Thank you 👍

      The VIM set is the best.

      @@michaelcosta7235 eh, it's okay. I like the extended swivels the other sets have. Plus the VIM set is just too big. Even with JDTCo's price, I can't really think of why I'd need $100 in just spark plug sockets.

    I ordered both the ARES and Gearwrench spark plug socket sets. I am a big Gearwrench fan, but I ended up sending the Gearwrench set back and keeping ARES set. The ARES set seemed like better quality and it works perfectly. Also there was some complaints on the 9/16 sizing on the Gearwrench set. Maybe they have fixed the issue.

    I have the Gearwrench 3 piece set and cannot believe I went without them for so long. I freakin love those things. I almost went for the 5 piece set but I have no need for the 9/16. My wife's challenger and my power wagon both have the 5.7 hemi so they're 5/8. And these things are a must when changing plugs and coil packs on these vehicles. Thanks for all your insight and vids.

    I am sold on the whole magnetic spark plug idea. Recently I had an issue with a Nissan Altima running rough I came to the conclusion the spark plugs needed to replaced. I go to change them and my spark plug socket was missing its rubber grommet so I gap them and kinda had to just drop them strait down into the spark plug valley and put my socket on my extensions and start them by hand and with the extension and then tighten them down. Then the car still runs like crap as I am chasing down the issues I decided to pull the spark plug back out. With me dropping them down the spark plug hole it had actually closed the gap completely along with my spark plug socket getting stuck on the plug and having to put my magnet down the whole each time to get my socket back. One of theses sets could had saved me so much time from having to diagnose issue twice and having to get my socket out each time with a magnet. Now I am about to grab a set before I tackle a 4.5 V8 Fwd cadillac. If you know anything about them you know my pain I just hope the swivel enough to get the back ones out that is usually easier from under the car from the back. Now I just need to pull the trigger on the best set for the money 😂 I have alot of duratech stuff and am very happy with them so I am leaning towards them.

    I have some ARES sockets that are half sizes for swollen lug nuts they seem to be pretty good quality I don’t use them every day but at least a couple times a week ford and dodge lug nuts always seem to be really swollen here in New York

    • @tonyg7553
      @tonyg7553 2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for my ignorance. But what is a swollen lug nut and 1/2 size socket?

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  2 роки тому

      @@tonyg7553 alot of lug nuts have that thin outer shell and in the rust belt where you see alot of temperature changing, salt, rain, snow, causes rust and corrosion and can cause the lug nut case to actually swell and then you cant fit a normal size socket onto the lug anymore. Hopefully that makes sense.
      And the half size means like if you had lug nuts that are 19mm then you have a lug nut socket that is a 19.5mm to help remove that swollen lug nut

    I bought one 3/8dr.10in. in a 5/8 sold in amazon by Lexivon and it is totally junk. The magnet is way to high up in the socket that the sparkplug don't sit properly in the socket. I have a 5.4l ford f-150 which has sparkplugs that are known for been difficult to take out. With that been said, it would be a big mistake to try and get those sparkplugs out with the Lexivon, it will round the hex on plugs out. So no not all socket sets are equal. some truly suck.
