This is gold. Where do you find so much great material? Johnny Griffin’s playing on Wes’s Live in Paris album is among the very best hard bop sax I’ve heard from anyone. He should be far more widely known. It’s great to see a video of them together from that same era.
This is great! We Montgomery recorded a live in Paris album from 1965 featuring Johnny Griffin. Griffin also played on the Wes Montgomery album Full House, recorded live at Tsubo in Berkeley, California, on June 25, 1962. Some music history trivia... Ronnie Ross was the Bari player on Lou Reed's Walk on The Wild Side from the Transformer album. Which was produced by David Bowie who was into jazz and knew Ross.
@@rillloudmother Yeah sounds right.. Ronnie I knew well enough to talk to.. I used to book him in the early-mid 70's, in fact he was the first jazz musician I ever booked... He was 'sort of' the top UK sax player for some time (whatever that's supposed to mean).. He even joined the MJQ as a fifth member on one of their European tours when they were really big in Europe..It was something to do with the rules of the Musician's Union
I have to look deeper into Wes's career. The history of Sax players is fascinating. There always seems to be another one that pops up whom I hadn't heard of--or dived deeply into. Amazing how they find a way to sing their individual songs through that same horn.
Feeling granted to be allowed observing the pleasure of the greatest jazzplayers themselves. Quite infectuous. Also, there's a lot of smoking going on.
Very nice AGAIN. (Just been listening to the Tyner/Brecker performance that you've down loaded!) Need to catch up with your recent downloads, Bret. I've been neglecting my mandatory musical input duri

Griff and Wes together is golden.

thanks, appreciate this info
Ronnie told me he used to give sax lessons to Bowie..
@@bobjuke4216 according to bowie, that was why he hired ross for the reed session.

Pure gold! Seeing Wes smile makes my day.
mine, too
I’ll say. Wes smiled more than most Jazz players.

There’s a whole lot of ‘messin’ around’ vibe going on in this session, and I have to say I like it.
Love the melody just played like an old roots blues!

100 percent Wow. I wonder if Clarence Gatemouth Brown was influenced by this type of stuff? He is a favorite of mine.
