Same. Legit I found it so sweet Ting Ting was the most serious but also the funniest sister at the same time. Plus it was pretty hilarious Ling cracking jokes left and right trying to impress her, all while she was trying to resist falling for him.
I never realized how pretty their voices are! Soft, but thick in texture, and sultry (particularly the pink sister). And yet each sister has a distinct tone. The eldest is more cold, regal until her silly side come out. Pink is sultry, of course, and confident, a bit raspy for her outspokenness. The youngest, yellow, is more youthful, encouraging and mellow. A plus is that when they spoke to each other, it was always gentle or sarcastic, edging childhood playfulness when they let go.
I love the song 'I wanna be like other girls' :) Somehow, over the years, women have always been made to feel that "you are not like the other girls" is some sort of a compliment. But this song shows the joy of being a girl. A free, happy girl...just like others. :)
Although, were other girls really any more free than the princesses were? I mean, other girls also had arranged marriages. Isn’t that what a matchmaker is for? Of course, it could be argued that boys also had arranged marriages, and had just as much of a choice as girls had, when it came to marriage, that is, none.
In his defence is not like he could just let them elope, they were still under the Emperor rule so Shang and Mulan (the ones with th higher ranks) exile or probably death penalty and for their families to lose their reputation, and for the other three (i dont know if for the princess too but probably) torture, jail or death penalty too And dont forget the posibility of a war between the other kingdom and china So yeah....😅
I mean it isn’t like he wanted to, he’s a soldier with orders that weren’t morally unacceptable in those times. It’s not like the emperor told him to burn an innocent village
Nerd Time: Those hairstyles are historically accurate, specially Ting Ting's. Do not ask me how they did them cause I don't really know. If we go by the Qing dynasty technique, they would use a piece of wood and wrap the hair around it, but the "bunny hairstyle" is not from the Qing dynasty so that's probably not how they did it. Chinese traditional hairstyles are very gorgeous and impressive. I really recommend taking a look at them. Also "bunny hairstyle" it's not the actual name of that hairstyle, that's just how I, a dumb hispanic obsessed with hair and it's history, calls it.
When I say I haven't seen this movie in years, but I, to this day, still break out randomly into "I Wanna Be Like Other Girls". That song is absolute perfection.
The princesses are 3 of my favorite characters in Mulan 2! It was interesting to see the level of character development that they got, In the beginning they were prepared for their arranged engagements without even giving it a 2nd thought. And then thanks to Mulan's influence Ting-Ting, Mei and Su realized that despite their royal status they have free will like any other girl. And it's because of this they were able to fall in true love and marry Yao, Ling and Chien Po!!!
Exactly, Mulan inspired the princesses to be more than just princesses. Like you said even if they are royal they were still free to make their own choices.
If it wasn't for Mushu pretending to be the Golden Dragon of Unity, Ting-Ting, Mei and Su would've never been able to marry Yao, Ling and Chien po. Because let's be honest if the order hadn't come from the Golden Dragon of Unity, They still would've been forced to honor their vow and there is absolutely no way that the emperor would've allowed his daughters to marry 3 random commoners.
I actually heard in the original script, the princesses were just playing the gang of three for saps just to get out of the marriage (and thus, never had any true feelings), but I’m glad it changed.
