    My favorite part of the whole video was hearing professional fishermen say they screwed up. Not only that but more than once! Knowing that makes my screwups more tolerable! Excellent video! I love watching you guys fish together.

    I really liked that you featured four lodges rather than just one. Such a beautiful place. Felt almost like you were there. Mark and Tom, you were great! Thanks.

    My guide in Exuma taught me to back off the drag all together when the lemon sharks were around.
    That way the bonefish can run as fast as he needs to escape them and you can palm the drag when needed... worked perfectly!

    Tom and Mark,
    Superb video as usual. Really enjoyed the informational "tips" and the vicarious winter vacation you provided therein.

    I rented a house on North Andros last year that had some of the best wadable flats I’ve ever seen. You could walk for miles from the house with not another person in sight. And within almost no distance at all the depths go form 1-2 feet to 6000 feet. Incredible area.

    I visited Andros some fifteen years ago, but wasn't into fly fishing back then. Did take Mahi Mahi on lures, barracuda, snappers, coney and jacks on lures / bait, so not a trip entirely wasted. Gotta say though, huge kudos to the guides. Great video; subscribed.

    bone fish is a great for people who want to get into flats fishing. Generally easy to catch but it can get boring, their fight is always the same, the pulsing runs. Personally i can't do this for a full fishing trip. Was their no permit ortarpon at the time? Would have nice seeing other species being caught

    Judging by how difficult it seemed to remove the hooks would assume barbed hooks were used!? Barbless always best!

    What rod is Tom using with the blue tape above the grip ? Doesn't look like the Helios with the white tape.

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  4 роки тому +1

      Jude, that is the latest version of the Helios3 rod which you can view here: www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=2M5B&dir_id=758&group_id=759&cat_id=67119&subcat_id=67120

      Totally.. here in Hawaii, Double digit bones are more or less the norm. They usually require quite a bit more skill to hook though.

    • @thomastero4662

      Yes, you can do a DIY trip. Get Rod Hamilton's DIY bonefish book, he describes lots of accessible flats on North Andros. There are affordable rentals, I'm going in April and our rental costs about $100 a day. Buy your own groceries and cook your own food.

    He talks like he's an expert! But the noob giveaway is only dumb freshwater noobs dunk their fly reels in the saltwater. 😹

    • @newflyfisher
      @newflyfisher  Рік тому

      Actually done on purpose. The reels I was using have a sealed drag system an are designed to withstand dust, dirt, salt and other fine material. Thanks for your feedback. Mark

    • @podocrypto6072
      @podocrypto6072 Рік тому

      @@newflyfisher This is you not living and fishing in the salt for an extended period of time. I know why you dunk the reel... for that "cool" shot. But us who live on and around the salt and fish it hard will tell you that dunking your reel continuously is a sure way for failure, no matter how well built the reel is. Salt + Aluminum = Corrosion. The term "sealed with most sealed drags only is meant to keep water out if sprayed when wet line rips off the reel, accidently drops it in the water with a quick retrieval, etc. Dunking it and keeping it underwater for a period of time will find water seepage and couple that with saltwater and you'll find a reel with saltwater trapped in the drag and therefore the salt will eat the reel from the inside out. Again, only noobs don't understand this. But ask any guide in the Keys if they recommend it. 😹
