Peter, very well done. You are the first person to mentioned that big bonefish are much like permit. I couldn't agree with you more! And they both love a well presented Sexy 60's crab.

Peter I have been watching several of your videos on Bonefish and they have all been very informative. My wife and I started salt water fishing in the past 5 years and have pretty much targeted Roosters ( or favorite)dorado, sailfish, trigger , wahoo, sailfish and Marlin. All are fun but really looking forward to or trip to Belize in March for bonefish, permit and tarpon. Last week looked at you top ten flies and some other guides patterns of where we are going and started tying and it seam you are absolutely right on with fly selections as far as color , size , weight .the thing I like is as a tier all these patterns are easy and quick so you can crank out a box full watching two football game . Would like to see more videos on species specific fishing for some new ideas.
    Strip set don’t lift :-)

Good question, we live in Montana and have fished most of the west and Pacific Northwest , Lots in Canada and Alaska and are alway looking for new places with stuff we haven’t caught that is fresh water . In the past few years aside from salt water fishing we have been getting heavy in two hand fishing and like swinging flies (Big Articulated ) and intruder types . So that being said have been thinking Europe , what do you have that we need to try ? Atlantic Salmon , Marble trout or ? Salt water GTs I see you like them did not check you subscriptions to see if you already did a specific one for this or Tarpon. Also curios about Christmas Island and what’s available there and your thoughts .

Very useful video. I am going for the first flyfishing trip, in December, to Cook Island. Been fishing for many years at home in Sweden, and in Mauritius, St. Brandon, Tanzania, but never flyfishing and never for Bonefish. Soooo looking forward to it! Going with a #7 for Bonefish and #11 for GT. A lot on my mind planing for everything. Your channel has been a good help! Thank You!
I have a question for GT fishing: Do you still change the loop of the flyline, even if you buy a Rio Elite Bonefish WF11?

It depends.. they have just released a new Elite that has a new loop design on it which is designed by the guides on Providence… they are fine, previous normal loops I would still cut off.. glad the information is useful and good luck!

Great vid Peter. And it's a sport for all the family. Last year had my wife, teenage daughter and son, all catching bones in Ascension Bay. You can make fishing for bones as easy or as challenging as you like within a 10 minute trip across the flats. But then my son got busted off on some tarpon - and that's another story!

Thank you for the great video!!!! You should do a basic beginners instruction for all of the top species if you have not already. I love learning about new species and how to fish them. I will be booking a trip a bonefish trip in the future!!!!!!

for tides... there are 2 tide cycles a day are you referring to best fishing on the high-high tide as in, incoming tide for the highest tide of the day or the lowest high tide of the day?

Even though I've never held a fly rod in my hands because I failed to embrace the sport when I was young, I have pursued Bonefish, Permit & Tarpon in the Keys & Mexico. I very much enjoyed your video and learned a number of things I did not know. I also learned that NOBODY respects the fact that I successfully fought, landed and released quite a few of these fish approaching trophy size. 11lb Bonefish in Long Key Bight, Fla. Mexico Guide guesses a 25lb Permit, a 20lb Snook and a 3lb. Tarpon (not a typo..) the same day garnering me my one and only Grand Slam...
And Keys Guide 150lb + Tarpon on Spinning Tackle.
Yes, I wish I would have learned to Fly Fish but have enjoyed my time with various Spinning Rods as well. Thank you for your educational and well spoken videos. 🤙

You keep mentioning the guide so my question is once I get experience then will I be able to wade and target the fish on my own ? Cause I am the type of solo fly fisherman.

Certainly... although you will always be more effective with a guide as they are on the water every day...

Great video Peter. After trips to CXI, Mexico, Cuba and Belize, you brought everything that I thought had learned, but hadn't, into one useful video. I'm looking forward to taking your advice to the Seychelles next month. One other thing I really like about bonefish is that they are docile when you handle them - they don't have spines and they don't wriggle. A perfect gamefish. Thanks from Australia.

Sorry Jack, Seychelles will always be top.. picture an incoming tide across a sand flat with a wave of bonefish coming in towards you where you can, if you wish, sight fish to and land 50 individual fish in one day with an average weight of 4 pounds… welcome to the Seychelles.. 😄 Alphonse even has a badge..

Great video!! I would add to your comparisons what they use to say: bonefishing is just like carp fishing, except for the budget... ha, ha.
