  • Often times people think that wings only offer an added layer of clarity about their dominant type when they are really so much more. The goal in this series is to answer the question, "why are wings important"? Each day I will breakdown wings and dig into how they can profoundly change each enneagram type.
Join me for the #Enneagramandwings series and learn how you can use your wings.

I am a 9, and I think I need a hat that says FEELING THINGS!

9w8 here...HEAVY wing 8 😅 People often mistype me as an 8, but I know (from my motivations) that I’m a 9. I so identify with the feeling of being a walking contradiction...it’s exhausting. Lol
I’d love a more in-depth series on this topic, when you have time!

It's really interesting that we talk so much about how heavily wings influence us, but most resources only lightly touch on them (e.g., if you read about 9, out of a whole chapter you might have one paragraph on a 9w1 or 9w8), but clearly, wings almost deserve their own chapters! One book I found that was super helpful was "Personality Types" by Riso and Hudson which expound more on wings, although still not enough in my opinion.

Thank you for honing in on these two wings and their fluidity! Definitely identify more with 9w1, however, as I make moves toward right action that 9w8 becomes more vocal.

I really appreciate these series, however on the next series where you cover each type separately, How about recording the common things as a separate "intro". Half of each episode was taken up with explaining what wings are and how they work and it could probably use its own episode.
Next, learning about the heart and stress lines of each type and how to identify which way someone is heading would be good.

I have heard that 9s with a heavy 8 wing tend to be much more 8-ish in work settings or in settings where they need to be "on". Is that accurate?

My son is also a 4w3. He's my most challenging child (he's 3/6). I could ask you a thousand questions Ian.
    I'm a 9w8. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ My husband is an 8w9.

Ian, is it possible to be an introverted 9W8? I am finding it difficult to find out what my wing actually is

I'm afraid this video is more about the 4w3 than anything. There's only about 30 seconds of non-neuanced info about 9w8 and 9w1 respectively. This could have been a great video.

    I tied my score with 9 (23 pnts) and 2 (22 pnts) with a 6 wing too

Interesting - 9 with a 8 in some areas - 1 in others. Aggression does come out, but very seldom - passive aggressive comes out more often.

I am an eight wing seven
    I love that girl
I seem to attract toxic men, though
They like that woman and then; they don’t
I become an unhealthy eight-wing nine when I stay and try to make things work

    Ian is a really obvious 9, not a 4
