- Gen an IQ7 here amzn.to/2trLAy5 I wanted something to record video and drums at the same time on my iPhone and found the Zoom IQ7. The quality is far better than the built-in iPhone mic, and does not distort even with loud sounds! Also I never completed my sentance about what mid-side miking is. But essentially you should normally have one figure eight mic, and one cardioid mic in this type of configuration.

note, I say 100 degree stereo width, but I meant to say 120 degree.
Gotta put the phone in airplane mode when recording. This will eliminate the electromagnetic feedback that so many people complain about. Simple fix. Don’t know why Zoom doesn’t recommend this on their instructions. Major issue with a simple fix!
Mark Zarecki Mine has noise in any mode once you get close to any Bluetooth enable device. I can’t put it on my smooth q2 gimbal or wear Apple Watch.

I didn't know that until looking it up - it's possible that a lot of people will want to use the phone for things that require being connected while the mic is on, so needing to be in Airplane Mode is a non-starter for them.
I guess it's ok if you're using a 2nd phone just for recording, but then it appears that other things might interfere with it.

Thanks so much for making this video. I'm researching this mic right now. Were you able to use it to capture audio/video in the native iOS camera app? I would ideally like to film using that and not have to rely on a third-party app.

Hey man that mic gets a pro sound on the drums compared to the crappy built in mic...do u get saturation? I recorded my band performances with the built in mic it seems to have some sort of AGC
This is a much better option then the built in mic, you have a physical control for recording levels
anyone got opinions on zoom iq6 vs iq7 ?
specifically for foley stuff, transienty
looking for sth with minimal background noise, so quite directional
it seems iq6 would be better for that?
I think, burning-in can only help the sound get better.

I have a question. Read above that you've since gotten rid of your iQ7 but was wondering if you had ever recorded with a group or band? We've recently received ours with intentions of recording our practices. We're not getting the results we want. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
unfortunately no, I never used it in a band situation. What kind of problem are you having?
Everything sounds muffled. Even if we pulled the iPad and mic outside the band space, and use the input volume control, it still sounds like there is a pillow over the vocals and guitars. The bass and drums sound well enough but nothing is 100% "clear"

This isn't really made for long distance, you'd be better off with a wireless lapel mic or something.

Can I use the interesting audio effects and mastering of the ZOOM Handy Recorder App also for the Video tone, or is it ONLY available in voice recording mode ?
I don’t think so. You could add audio fx to video in some other program, like powerdirector
Hey man. Great video! I just got this mic in the mail today. For the same reason you got it, for drums. My question... there’s no way to have the mic point towards me when I livestream with selfie cam?
Well I got rid of mine because I no longer have my iPhone, but as far as I remember you just turned it around, right? One mic is always going to be pointed sideways, but that's normal for mid/side miking.
Demonic Sweaters well you can only point 2 ways really. It can face the same way as your rear camera, which is great and then it can point straight down if your looking at your phone screen. (Which is good for using voice memos) It can’t point the same way as your screen is unfortunately....at least I don’t think so. I livestream during my shows and I like the screen facing me so I can interact with my friends that join in. If I wana use the mic during that set up.. the mic will either point back away from me, or the mic would point straight down toward the ground. 😞
@@drummeryan I mean you literally just plug it in the other way. It will work either way. I recorded this video with the front facing camera.

Does this microphone work with iPhone video app, because it claims online to not function with video. Perhaps it your iOS.
It's hard to say if it does now. I don't have it anymore, and the last iOS update broke pretty much all external mic support on the camera app.
Please do a video on the Bristol synth program.

The audio of your IQ7 in this video sounds mono, no stereo signal at all
Mid side refers to the way you process it FYI. Typically a cardiod is the mid but it can be figure 8, hypercardiod, omnidirection, theres no rule.

I just cannot figure out how do you record the video with sound. It does not work on my iPhone's Camera app when recording videos - it records the video without the sound while the microphone is on and the lights show the mike is "hearing" the sound.
Do you use another app to record the video with sound and the IQ7?

hmm, I never had a problem with the camera app. It just used the mic by default. However this was on an older version of iOS. Try force closing the app, then plug in the mic with the app not running, then open the app.
May I use it to do videoconferences?
I haven't tried that, but I wouldn't count on it. IPhone has difficulty using external devices this way.
