Orlando Pacheco - Exactly. Too many people tend to immediately compare a "new" band's sound to an existing band's sound and too many times that comparison clouds the hability of those people to notice the differences.

This was great. May I throw in as a 68 yr old, I really love hearing organ in rock songs. It's rich and warm. My favorite time working at a music shop was when the piano tuner took time out to play some organ drawing my attention to the Leslie speakers spinning slowly, fast or not at all. I'd wondered how the intensity and swells got in there. Thanks for this analysis, Fil: new band to me.

My first impression is that they don't sound like anyone else and that's a good thing if they have a signature sound that stands out. Styx had brothers on bass and drums, as well. Never occurred to me how that might have helped cement the rhythm section of that band. They started playing together as teens! The story goes that Denis was walking by the house and heard them playing- and was stopped in his tracks. Then had to go in, introduce himself, and ask if they wanted to form a band, lol.

Nice find, Fil. I've not heard of this band before but glad you posted it as I like them a lot. You have such a great ear. Apropos of nothing, the name reminds me of a band called Blackberry Winter that was the only band that came to play in the small town where I'm from (not counting local area bands, of course). One of the first, if not the first concert I ever saw. They were pretty good but never hit it big--maybe because they mostly did covers, I think, but they hold a special place in my memory. A google search shows they have been around since the sixties--"before the Beatles"--but hung it up around 2008. Not to be confused with a folk/bluegrass band of the same name that is still around.

I discovered this Band quite a while ago, Love them!. Also great acoustically. Charlie Starr & his mate can do a 45 min set and Charlie does everything from Blues, spontaneous humour, through Americana & folk! Will try to send you a link. Oh, did I say I love everything they do .?

One of my favorite bands since I finally listened to them on you tube late last summer. I have since purchased every studio record i could get on vinyl and the first two albums I could only find on cd. I dont have the live record yet but i hope i can still find a vinyl copy. The dvd conerts i have seen available are in my future as well.
I heard of them a few years ago and have no idea why I didn't listen to them. I found out they did a song with Oliver Wood from the wood brothers and I had to here the song "mother mountain" since I'm a fan.
I was moved by Blackberry Smoke songs on Find a light to say the least. There is not one song i dislike on there records. When i play BlackBerry Smoke music i usually pick which album and play it all the way through!
I need to go to a Blackberry Smoke concert!
I know they are doing shows with another favorite band of mine Tedeschi trucks band in the summer
