What a gem Bonnie is. You are absolutely right, she is on another level.
***I Met Bonnie in 1974 when she came to visit Lowell George of LITTLE FEAT, at Blue Seas recording studio in Hunt Valley Maryland, my home town*** ... Little Feat was cutting the album "FEATS DON'T FAIL ME NOW", my older brother was one of the engineers or electrical techs and I got to hang out, listen to and watch this album being made almost every night until the wee hours in the morning! .... Bonnie walked in one evening and I fell instantly in love, she smelled soooo good, I had no idea who she was! .... I was only 14 or 15 at the time, anyway, got to meet her and flirt like a dumb kid..... I got to work for in later years a time or two, she remembered the meeting in 1974, very nice lady..... The music world is very small in America! .... On a side note: The BLUE SEAS recording studio was owned by the great songwriting bass player of the band THE LOVIN SPOONFUL, Mr. Steve Boone..... That's how I got started being a roadie for the stars and later a professional personal bodyguard for all the great celebs and not so great celebs. ..... It helps to know people
Mr. Roach I’ll bet you have some great stories!
@@wtglb I envy you big time! Loved Lowell and the feat! And love Bonnie as well!
For all her career, Bonnie has had first rate slide technique and a voice with no peers. It's a combo that has you fall in love with her and whatever she's playing/singing.
I have always rated Bonnie Raitt as both being a great vocalist and a fine slide player ... she consistently nails her performances .
She’s my hero. Age is just a number babies...she’s been killing the slide for decades. Her guitar player is excellent too, his work on her cover of Gerry rafferty’s Right Down the Line is wonderful. Ooh her band!
👍
She covered Right Down The Line? I gotta hear that!
That's a cool song.
Leon Russell would be an interesting case to study.
He's smooth! ☺
@@alanna8983 I vote for Leon as well !
"Heroine"
Bonnie is a tough lady. She went on tour with James Taylor last year had to leave to have surgery then came back to finish the tour in February.
She still sounds as good as the first time I heard her. Actually, I think she sounds even more seasoned! Thanks for doing a Bonnie video!
Well, d’uh... unless the first time you heard her was last week, of course she sounds more seasoned :)
Love this woman! Been a fan since the 70s. I've seen her live 5 times!! She kicks azz on guitar. So underrated it drives me crazy. When she finally won a few grammy's I went crazy. 😁
Bonnie has been at that level for decades.
Bonnie Raitt has been a fantastic guitarist and artist for years. I love her and her music. Great review, Fil.
For those not aware, she’s playing Need You Tonight by INXS. It’s a mid tempo rock / funk tune, but Bonnie slows it down nicely, putting it into a real funky blues. Always love her singing.
While this style of music is what Bonnie seems to like best, I've always enjoyed her occasional ballad. She actually has a very sweet voice.
Bonnie just won another Grammy last night for "Song of the Year"(at age 73). One of three she won that evening.
She deserves them, thanks for the information.
When I was younger, I couldn't appreciate Bonnie Raitt. Probably because I was neck deep into Motorhead's '1916', plus some other scintillating sounds that ran across the same lines.
But now I listen to Miss Bonnie play, and I know in my heart and soul, there is something beyond this life. Plus she has that whole ginger, Vampira thing happening, but that's a story for another day and time. My favorite clip of Miss Bonnie features her and Mavis Staples doing a cover of Dylan's, 'Well, Well, Well'...powerful medicine, I s**t you not.
Great Bonnie Raitt performance. She's had so many good groove songs going way back, and still she's got it! Nice analysis and appreciation, Fil!
Finally a Bonnie Raitt reaction!
I just love Bonnie Raitt !!
LOVE YOUR EXPLANATION OF WHAT IS HAPPENING. ABSOLUTELY LOVE BONNIE. SHE REALLY MADE THE SONG HER OWN
I've loved this song from the first hearing. Excellent cover. Bonnie's always amazing however this groove delivers. All amazing musicians. Thank you Fil for analyzing this performance.
Bonnie Raitt meets INXS is a combo I didn't realize I needed until now! Awesome video!
Have always loved her, she's amazing.
Gotta love Bonnie!! That Telecaster player sounds real nice laying down the groove
Bonnie Raitt is her own sound!!
He's amazing - one of the best rhythm guitarists I've heard. I'm a HUGE Bonnie Raitt fan, but what a band this is!
I remember Bonnie in the 90s. Me and my wife were young then. Now she is gone since Jan 3. I miss her so much.
I'm sorry to hear that.
My condolences,DaeHawk.....
sorry to hear that
So sorry for your loss, man. Take care.
Daehawk I’m so sorry for your loss 😔
She’s one of the best. I hadn’t seen this, so thank you.
BONNIE !
Thanks for that one. I can still recall her playing 'Pride & Joy', when she called the late SRV 'Her little lover boy'.
Cheers, J.
SRV was the one who got Bonnie Raitt into rehab. She always attributes her sobriety to him.
@@dee_dee_place Thanks, didn't know of that. :)
her father was John Raitt a famous Broadway actor/ singer; Carousel etc. She went delta blues and learned from some of the greats. Great guitar work.
Bonnie is one of those rare folks who is loved by everybody--I've never heard of a bad word said against her, ever. She forged her way as a woman in the boys club of blues guitarists, earning their respect...not an easy thing back then. AND she's an activist for human rights and enviormental issues, donating her time & talents
That’s CRAZY! Crazy good! I never would have thought of covering that song. I like the song, like INXS. Never would have thought of covering it. I guess that’s what makes Bonnie Raitt a star. Thank You for bringing us this unexpected treasure, Dear Fil! ❤️
No problem!
The lady's just a powerhouse.....lovin her work for decades......doubt scarcely a week has gone by that I haven't played something by her......still kickin myself for missing this tour.....one of those acts that just screams and exudes quality......stage presence and performance is always dream like.
If you just heard the opening note, you'd know it was Bonnie's slide. Something about her tone, and her mastery of that subtle vibrato that makes her sound unmistakable. Plus the fact that she's comfortable just hanging on that note, then allowing the faint second, higher note to fade in.
Saw Bonnie on the pier in NYC in 1980 before anyone really knew who she was. Great player, songwriter and pioneer. I was glad when she won all those Grammys for " Nick of time" definitely paid her dues.
She started rocking it in the late sixties and into the seventies. Sorry you missed it!
"1980 before anyone really knew who she was" 😂
Bonnie brings it!! Brilliant. Well done Fil.
I've seen Bonnie live a few times; blown away every time. She's one of those few musicians you recognize right away, and always has a tight touring band😎
Yeah..It's Bonnie! Classic..LOVE her
I had the pleasure of seeing Bonnie and James Taylor last summer. Fantastic show! Angel from Montgomery was the highlight. 15,000 people in dead silence wanting to hear every note and listen to her heart poor out on that song. Gives you goose bumps.
Cool!
Michael Hutchence is smiling in heaven. 🤗
She has definitely still got it and surrounded herself with some great musicians, I thought it was a fantastic cover and she really made it her own.
Bonnie is just great. I'm 68 and it seems like she has always been there!
She is the coolest woman!
Her father was a great singer. Broadway and film legend. She may not be super well known, but every musician worth their salt admires her talent. Been a fan for a long time.
i saw a television special👉🏾 in the nineties, designed to explain to Americans, that Blues and Southern music, was related, appreciated, and basically connected.
it was true, it was cool, and idk much about Southern music, but she was on that show, playing those southern blues!❤️
I've been in love with Bonnie from the first cut I heard in 73.
I've never heard this version before... Was a bit doubtful at first. But no longer! Excellent version! Thanks again Fil! 🤘🤘🤘
Watching this now, 3 days after Bonnie's surprise (but well deserved) Song of the Year win at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
Fantastic Analysis my friend. You so nailed it!
Love this lady's style of singing...
Brilliant. She is just fantastic. What a band.
Bonnie was making great albums all through the 1970's and I'm sorry to say I didn't discover them until just until just recently. She has a huge back catalog that's worth checking out.
I have listened to and loved Bonnie since the late 70s or early 80s. I hope she knows how many people she has touched with her music.
Bonnie is wonderful. I've seen her live twice. Besides her guitar playing, her genuine warm personality shows throughout the concerts. You'd enjoy looking into Carolyn Wonderland. Wonderful blues guitarist
Bonnie is AWSOME!! You need to do a video of her cover of “Burning Down the House”!
Your reviews are so technically orchestrated..........Feels like somebody reading a book to me where all the characters are on a wild adventure, eventually satisfying all concerned. Have seen Bonnie twice now in my later years most recently and she definitely satisfies!
love the appreciation and enthusiasm you bring to bear on high end music like this
Great analysis Fil... Bonnie is one of my favorite artists 🎶👏
I got a good introduction to the playing, singing, and beauty of Bonnie back in 1972 when she opened for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. WOW!!!
I have seen her in concerts many times and never get tired of seeing her live and playing her heart out! I sure hope she comes to a venue close enough for me to go to soon!
Great voice on the guitar and vocals. Really sweet fusion of talent.
Love your reaction. Bonnie Raitt is amazing.
Love your comments about getting the groove and knowing your stuff, your chops. To make it sound so easy to be so good. Getting that groove makes me think of Phil Collins drumming in his prime. People hear him but miss his groove because he makes it sound so natural, so groovy but makes is so easy. Will look for some more of your Bonnie videos.
She was great live when I was twenty plus, and she is just as good now. Rock on!
That's my girl, one of the artists that has been an influence in my music! Bonnie Raitt, Give it Up and Takin my Time are albums I listen to on a regular basis. I'm so glad to see her, she can play!!!
My fave since the 70s
Lov'n it seriously...love...ing...it. Her interpretation us outstanding...Abd I recognized loooong ago her greatness and beauty on multiple levels... musicly in terms of tha sensual slide, I absolutely love... her beautiful voice, and het ability to use both to an eximeplery level one that only exceptional true artists possess.
She sounds so good! BTW BBC won't let us see video. Thanks for this! Bonnie does it all, writes, sings, plays. Listen to The Blender Blues for a giggle!
I have always loved Bonnie. I have seen her many times. She is always great
Mike Finnigan on keyboards played with Hendrix.
She's so slick, cool, laid back, bluesy and soulful.
I only liked it because your smile reminds me of my 2nd born. You/my son’s smile goes up to your eyes. I see that in his children, my 3 grandbabies. ☺️
Fil does have a great smile and really nice teeth which sometimes British people do not have.
Yes, more Bonnie & Winwood.Rock🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
The minute she sings that first note you know you’re in for a treat. Remarkable singer songwriter and brilliant guitarist
This was the first concert I took my oldest daughter to... In Nashville 💓😂
...My last video of the wee hours of the night -- when I saw Bonnie Raitt, I couldn't resist! Bonnie, never disappoints -- she put her own honey haired soul on INXS' classic and made it all her own! That's another trait of greatness, capturing one's own artistry, in the vehicle if another -- love it!
Thanks for another wonderful analysis video, Fil -- my new "Midnight Special", never disappoints! From Harlem, New York -- rock! Goodnight/Day!✌🏼💖🎶🎵
*Hello , Fil :) Oh.. She's Really Cool And What Amazing "INXS" Tribute Alive !!!
°Thanks & Rock !!! X3
Omg, I can't believe I didn't know she did an INXS song!!! I love her and them, so it's heaven. I really like her version
Yes you should "revisit" Bonnie in the future. She has absolutely always rocked it!
Fil you’re on fire lately brother!
When I was 15, my sister brought home the album Sweet Forgiveness. I wore that album out! and I think a few copies after it. :) Every song is fantastic- her version of Del Shannon's "Runaway" but the title song is a religious experience with the funky guitar. Love ya Bonnie from way back in 1977.
She's still got it!
Bonnie🤩😎My inspiration. Yeah!!
Always has been an amazing slide player.
Bonnie Raitt is one of the best interpreters and arrangers of other songwriters that there is. Over the years she’s has covered the Buffalo Springfield, Jackson Browne, John Prine, John Hiatt, and many others. Her renditions always manage to be at least as compelling as the originals.
Thanks Fil!!...Bonnie is one of my absolute favorite artists!! Oh yes everything she does is top-level! I love her raw gritty bluesy voice! One of my favorite tracks of hers is I Can't Make You Love Me... it is so painfully beautiful😢❤...✌❤🤘
I ♥️ Bonnie & her soulful delivery
Fil Another Great 👍🏻 performance by Bonnie and all Group! Another Fascinating Analysis! You are Amazing 😉 ear and eye to speak so Eloquently about them!!!
Bonnie Raith a class act, just a one off, super slide player , voice af an angel so much soul . she has done ,seen played it all .
Hi Fil, I think I told you in a note that my good High School friend had left town with Johnny Winter back in the early 70s to play drums for him. Years later he called me to come to a Bonnie Raitt show in New Jersey. He was her stage manager at that point. We had dinner with Bonnie, Jackson Brown and Bruce Hornsby. It was an amazing evening and great seats for the show. She had two tour buses, one was a workout gym. The other musicians and stage crew shared two other tour buses, like 14 guys bunking it together. Ah, the good old days. LOL Great video.
Gotta love Bonnie!💝 😃
HI FIL.SHE STILL HAS THAT GOOD VOICE AND GOOD GUITAR PLAYING.GOOD SHOW .VERY INTERESTING. THANKS. STAY SAFE OUT THERE.PEACE AND LOVE
Bonnie Raitt has such a range. Blues, Rock, and everything in between. Love her. Thanks for featuring her. Age has nothing to do with anything young man.
👍
That’s some great stuff there!
Only one Bonnie Raitt! Over 60 amazing voice, guitarist, and beautiful RED HAIR!
Phil, you forgot to use one word to describe this...Magical.. the groove is brilliant and, as always, Bonnie kills it.
This is what I was waiting for. I love Bonnie Raitt. She has been a consummate artist. I love her bluesy guitar and her singing. Just a treasure in our musical landscape. Thank you my dear Fil, for giving us this wonderful analysis of her music. She had a wonderful time actually meeting the great Blues Players while she was learning her craft. I am looking forward to seeing you show her journey, or whatever you show will be first rate I know. :)
Hey Fil, great to see Bonnie featured. This lady has got staying power as well as a great voice and excellent chops. Thanks!
All I can say is SWEET!!!
👍
Bonnie does that every time. She's not a big arena artist, intimate rooms work best for her and her to die for voice and slide. Bonnie is intimate!.
Thanks Clint, I have seen her live. Thanks for your info.Jim
Bonnie is a master of slide, tone and soulful vocals! She was opening for one of her big influences, Mississippi Fred McDowell in the early 70's, one hell of an education -;0)
The right words?
Ms Raitt is
P E R F E C T I O N
Would never have thought this track would be so good from Bonnie. Really great.
Thanx Fil. BR is the 'female John Fogerty' with that raspy voice! Appreciate all your videos
Great analogy.
She is a lot like Fogerty.
Thanks!
I used to see Bonnie at small clubs before she hit it big. She is a great
her voice is in perfect tune with her slide....blends seamlessly just beautiful
