Azelaic acid has completely transformed my super sensitive acne prone skin. I used to get painful pimples around my chin that took weeks to heal. I tried TO’s version just to see what the ingredient would do for me. I noticed so much progress and eventually increased to a prescription 15%. It’s the only active my skin tolerates without getting dry while also effectively treating acne. Happy Thursday Kelly! 😊
Im currently using the cos de baha azelaic. Since the instructions are to use 1-2 drops, im always mixing it into another hydrating serum, which also improves the experience.
1:40 - Oh my god finally. From all the info I have read and watched about azelaic acid (A LOT), it seems like it unclogs pores, but in a way that isn't the same as glycolic acid for example, but I couldn't find a SINGLE piece of info specifically addressing in clear language whether it's actually different or not. It seems more similar to tretinoin in this regard perhaps (at least relative to AHA/BHA).
I can definitely vouch for Azeliac acid. I’m a doctor and have prescribed this multiple times for acne, especially patients who are skin of colour and hyperpigmentation is an issue, and those who cannot tolerate things like Epiduo and BP which are so strong. I used BP once and broke out in a blotchy rash for like 2 weeks.
I have been using the Peach Slices Azalaic serum for the past 5 weeks and I'm loving it so surprised of what it's done in that amount of time . I added that and the Reveive ultimate EGF serum and loving them .
If you are like me and can't use pure Azelaic Acid, look into the more gentle derivative ingredient Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (PAD). Normal AA makes me itch like crazy, but PAD is just fine. Geek & Gorgeous and Naturium have some good PAD serums!
I live in Europe and I've been using a Acmed Azelaic Acid 20% 75ml for about a year, no prescription needed. It has transformed my skin, I use it alongside tretinoin and had no issues. Very good quality product, I buy it online for 17 euro . I recommend that
ive been using azelaic acid since i was pregnant 2,5 years ago and i cannot stop using it! it clears my hyperpigmentation faster than any other ingredient that ive ever tied. i vouch the naturium one, had used 3 bottles of it. im currently using the cos de baha's one. the texture is not as elegant and not as quickly to heal an active acne. but still a great alternative!
My favourite ingredient... I use it daily in my night time routine... it can be a little drying but it's worth it. I use it mainly for my redness and for the brightening properties....in my recent visit to the US i was able to buy the peach slices cream.... love it.... REVOX ( EU brand) also has a great product, very affordable and with a beter texture than The ordinary or the Cos de Baha..
Kelly, I wanted to recommend a 15% azelaic acid serum available for purchase in the US! It's the Niche Beauty Lab Theramid's Azid. They also have a Ceramid serum and and a Copper Peptide serum that I am eyeing 👀
Oh yes that's a Spanish brand I think. They can sell 15% in Europe, and it's ok to import to the states. Can't be sold in physical stores stateside at that percentage, though.
I'm Colombian. I get my 15% Azaleic Acid from there. It's called Rozelaic gel. Dermatica in the US offers a 20% Azaleic Acid cream with squalene and glycerin. I like that formulation too. But it's too strong for me if also using tretinoin.
@@Anil18834 Hola, yo aquí en México también tengo 15% en farmacias con Finacea, pero estaba dando está opción que aparte en formulación suena interesante
Hi Kelly I have used azelaic acid for a few years now and get 15% finnacea from my doctor. However I started with the OTC 10% and recommend most people start at a lower strength, especially for rosacea. Initially this ingredient can cause a prickling sensation on the skin, but this dissipated as my skin acclimated. There are now 5% azelaic acid products available for those with super sensitive skin btw and this is also a good starting point. I worked my way up to 15% over time and have no sensitivity at all from the higher percentage nowadays. It really has helped my rosacea immensely and I wouldn’t be without it. It’s also safe during pregnancy for those struggling with acne when so many of the other acne ingredients are not. There is also an azelaic acid derivative often used in products and it too can be effective. Best wishes x
Love your color story today the burgundy and browns in your make up is perfect together with your hair … I need to get me another fiddle since I’m more experienced now 🤣🤣🤣🪴🪴🪴 yours looks great!

Chemist Warehouse ships worldwide. And they have good price. For me it's ridiculous to spend so much on 10% AA while Azclear is available for so cheap, unless you can't tolerate prescription strength. My skin loves Azclear 15% much more than TO 10%.
This video came at the perfect time ! I’ve been looking for another AZA serum , I’ve been using the peach slices but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to repurchase. Thank you!
Oh I love azelaic acid. It's a permanent part of my skincare routine now. :) I use the Lumizela Azelaic Acid Serum by Facetheory. They have a 15% version and also a 10% version. I live in Europe, and I'm able to get the 15% version, so I use that. But I wonder if it's not possible to order that one from the USA? Maybe not.
I used The Ordinary's Azelaic Acid for a bit, but it seriously irritated my skin. I think the silicone texture wasn't suitable for my oily skin. I switched to Naturium's Azelaic Acid Emulsion 10% and have seen a huge improvement. My skin is no longer irritated, and it appears like it's actually working.
I have been used 15% azelain acid (finacea) for many years, on and of, for my rosecea. It works much better than 10% from eks paulas choice or the ordinary.
@kellydriscoll I am debating between the Paula’s choice or cos de baha AZA! Main concerns are redness, post acne marks (idk if it’s PIE or PIH). Uneven skin tone. I use bha from Paula’s choice 1-2 times a week as well
Hi Kelly, thank you for your videos, they have been so helpful. Please if you are to choose just one deeply hydrating product for dehydrated skin that you can't do without, what will it be?
Minor correction. Salicylic acid does have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties too. Just wanted to mention this because for me personally SA was a game changer when I first started treating my acne and it's still the back bone of my acne routine. For some reason SA has always been super easy for me to tolerate, not the slightest little irritation ever. I do also use (prescription) azelaic acid but have to be mindful of my overall skin condition when doing so. If I have any existing irritation, excema, dry patches etc. azelaic acid tends to aggrevate the problem whereas salicylic acid doesn't. I'm aware this is usually the other way around and azelaic acid tends to be better tolerated. Just wanted to put this info here so as to remind folks to try and see what works for their individual skin; sometimes it is indeed something as old and boring as SA. 😃
Perhaps it was an oversimplification to help viewers understand the differences, AA has a better track record against the acne bacteria but everyone's skin is individual and what works for us will be different and won't always conform to general studies or general advice.
I had a very bad reaction to the Cos de Baha which is highly unusual for me so beware. I have discovered The Ordinary Suspension and I love that it mattifies and gives immediate redness relief. The pilling is an issue though. I don't know that you can wear it with sunscreen and/or foundation. Great for a no makeup cloudy day though.
how do you feel about azelaic acid derivatives? i was interested in the geek & gorgeous aPAD serum. i’m not very acne prone but i mainly wanted to target redness, as i have eczema with underlying rosacea. thanks for a great video as always!
I don't have much experience with the derivatives, but Geek and Gorgeous are really solid with the ingredients they choose to formulate with, I think I'd prefer to try an AA derivative formula with them than other brands just because I know how much proven ingredients are important to their formula philosophy.
Perfect timing: I'm about to start my azelaic acid journey (for mild rosacea and brightening). I usually go for Korean brands, but this time I opted for the more expensive Dr Sam's. I hope it'll work for me! I'm on tret with Dermatica 😊
Kelly; Girl…you are a mind reader. I have just started searching for a new Azelaic acid serum. I’ve used the Naturium topical one for a while and I’m not really impressed so I’m looking for a new one for when I empty that one!
I just have questions on how to put the azelaic acid into routine. Is it a use every day to prevent or post acne/hyperpigmentations? Or is it best for after acne?
I'm with Dermatica too (0.5% tretinoin + 4% niacinamide. Then 4% azelaic acid was added, but I'd rather use it in a higher percentage and separately). Dermatica is great!
The only time I had a reaction ever was using these two ingredients even the next day after the other. It was the Cos De Bha though. Just don't buy that one I'd say.
from European side I can recommend = 🥰Revox Azealic acid 10% emulsion (7 euros, no pilling) 🤩Sesderma Azelac RU serum (40 euros, but it has retinol, retinal, tranexamic acid in it as well and it is very nice) 😶Niche Beauty Lab AZID 15% (35 euros, has also peptides and ceramides in it) (haven't tried this one, cause it has benzyl alcohol in it and my face doesn't like it)
Is there anything in between the Paula's choice and the Ordinary? Something in the 20 dollar range that you recommend? I have never had acne but seem to be experiencing some bumps on my skin and some acne. I am almost 50 and am post menopausal for years. I dont know whether its product related or not. I have become a Korean skincare enthusiast as a result of your videos.
I currently trying out the Revox just azelaic acid 10% for my rosacea. I can really recommend it for very sensitiv skin! The Paulas choice one sadly gave me a rash with a lot of blisters all over my face 😪
I also want to incorporate AA into my routine. I would go to the more affordable one as my first time trial. However, could it work along with vit c in the same routine or retinol the same time?
As mentioned in the video there are no ingredient conflicts, if you choose to use 2 actives in the same routine just make sure to tune into your skin and make sure it's not making your skin feel irritated.
You miss Azclear action Azelaic acid 20% Medicated Lotion. It is a pharmacy medicine treament but sold as a cosmetic product, you can easily buy it. And the price is the best, it only $ 10-15 $.
i used azealic acid like a year ago from The Ordinary and LOVED the ingredient because it immediately calmed down any inflammation, it was amazing for my acne. but the formula by The Ordinary is actually terrible, way too pasty and silicon-y and doesn’t spread well at all, you need quite a lot to spread it all over the face. now a year later i’ve tried the Azealic Acid from FaceTheory which is much more expensive (30€) but it’s a thinner serum and i’m so glad i made that decision because it really does work wonders for my skin. it’s one of the few skin care products that i actually don’t feel bad about spending that much money. In Europe you can get 15% Azealic Acid which is a very good inbetween i feel like. 10% is a bit too weak, 20% is a little strong so 15% is just right
I found a 15% on amazon. Made in Japan! I love it but, i can tell she's a bit stronger with sensitivity and it's like serum texture mostly clear in color. My skin really likes this twice a day.
I love the paula's choice azelaic acid! I used it consistently every morning for six months and it did wonders for my super stubborn post-inflammatory erythema from cystic acne
I'm confused about this acid. I never really understood if I really needed it, I love my lactic acid. I have dry skin so should I use azaelic acid. I have melasma but I think vitamin C could handle that. 😊
I also have dry skin. It’s sensitive and I used to get flushed very easily. I don’t know whether Azaleic acid would be of benefit to your skin but I’ll share my experience. I didn’t pay much attention to Azaleic acid for a long time, thought it was mostly for people w acne. But I watched a video from dr Sam bunting 3-4 years ago and she described its function in helping reduce skin sensitivity. I started using the ordinary Azelaic acid 2 years ago. I didn’t really notice a change in my skin but I kept going with it. 9 or 10 months late I noticed i was experiencing a lot less redness. About 6 months ago, I reintroduced an ascorbic acid serum. I’ve never been able to tolerate them more than 2x week but now I use it 5-6x week without problem. I plan to keep it in my routine. I think it helps me reduce the number of reactive, sensitized skin episodes I experience. It’s inexpensive, not irritating since my skin got accustomed to it and easy for me to use in my routine. I take a dab of the Azelaic suspension, a pump of Stratia’s liquid gold (and in the winter whatever cream Im using). I mix them in my palm and then apply before my sunscreen. Doing it this way, I haven’t experienced pilling. I like the ordinary’s because as Kelley said there aren’t other actives in it. So many seem to be geared to acne or congested skin rather than dry, sensitive skin. I’ve heard it is useful for melasma and rosacea as well as general hyperpigmentation. It’s not an exfoliating acid so it wouldn’t replace your lactic acid. It also doesn’t need to be at a low ph, like the exfoliating acids, so it doesn’t contribute to irritation that way.
@KellyDriscoll I never know what acid fits me best. So I dabble in all of them! Lactic is my ride or die, salicylic acid is great for my pores. I suffer from cystic acne. OK I'll stop rambling!!!!
As mentioned, it has skin cell regulation, redness reduction, and brightening benefits, which are also GA benefits. AA is generally better tolerated by sensitive folks than AHAs.
In Europe we can get 15-20% otc, I looove the Isispharma metroruboril az, the most elegant formula with additional beneficial ingredients, makes me laugh when other brands complain how hard it is to formulate with aa. I got a tip from a cosmetic formulator that in the US you can get some 15% aa products otc like Melazepam, they just don't outright disclose the percentage, apprently it's not an official limit but poses a problem due to implied drug claims.
It is so silky and smooth like a light lotion consistency it’s perfect after my serums before moisturizer wonderful ingredients and I feel like it helped with my redness very quickly in days 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 highly recommend
@@marionallen2222 Oh goodness! I looked it up- that looks really nice! I’m gonna get it with my next Ulta order. I’d ordered one from YesStyle, but it has some fragrance type ingredients I was worried about. That one looks even better! Thanks for the recommendation.

i used azealic acid like a year ago from The Ordinary and LOVED the ingredient because it immediately calmed down any inflammation, it was amazing for my acne. but the formula by The Ordinary is actually terrible, way too pasty and silicon-y and doesn’t spread well at all, you need quite a lot to spread it all over the face. now a year later i’ve tried the Azealic Acid from FaceTheory which is much more expensive (30€) but it’s a thinner serum and i’m so glad i made that decision because it really does work wonders for my skin. it’s one of the few skin care products that i actually don’t feel bad about spending that much money.
In Europe you can get 15% Azealic Acid which is a very good inbetween i feel like. 10% is a bit too weak, 20% is a little strong so 15% is just right
Yes, you have theramid or isispharma
I found a 15% on amazon. Made in Japan! I love it but, i can tell she's a bit stronger with sensitivity and it's like serum texture mostly clear in color. My skin really likes this twice a day.
Hi what's the name of the serum ?

@@RandyandCyndi thank you, it’s great to have another option to try whenever I finish my Paula’s Choice! 👍
I love the paula's choice azelaic acid! I used it consistently every morning for six months and it did wonders for my super stubborn post-inflammatory erythema from cystic acne
Naturium has the BEST azelaic acid hands down. Bomb
If you're happy with your current routine, products and results there is no reason to add another active into the mix!
@KellyDriscoll I never know what acid fits me best. So I dabble in all of them! Lactic is my ride or die, salicylic acid is great for my pores. I suffer from cystic acne.
OK I'll stop rambling!!!!
Is azelaic acid derivative anti microbial as true azelaic acid?
Can azelaic acid be used with Altreno lotion (Tretinoin)? Since altreno is not that harsh on skin
Yes there are no ingredient conflicts!
Paulas choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster contains 0,5% Salicylic Acid! I like REVOX Just Azelaic Acid 10% very much. Very good for Rosacea and cheap;)
@@karlahenriquez2339 I think it's even better.
How does aa compare to glycolic?
As mentioned, it has skin cell regulation, redness reduction, and brightening benefits, which are also GA benefits. AA is generally better tolerated by sensitive folks than AHAs.
Azelaic acid is a game changer.
It really is!👍

In Europe we can get 15-20% otc, I looove the Isispharma metroruboril az, the most elegant formula with additional beneficial ingredients, makes me laugh when other brands complain how hard it is to formulate with aa. I got a tip from a cosmetic formulator that in the US you can get some 15% aa products otc like Melazepam, they just don't outright disclose the percentage, apprently it's not an official limit but poses a problem due to implied drug claims.
Yes!!!! I need some options!!!! I love my Peach Slices AA it’s really helped my redness with my tretnoin!!! 🤍🤍🤍
I didn’t know Peach Slices made one! I’ve been looking for one but didn’t want to try the PC due to the salicylic acid.
Yay! Glad I could help and it’s perfect for my sensitive skin I was worried about so many ingredients lol I can’t do fragrance or essential oils
