Really well shot and amazing cinematography. Fantastic effort all around, really can’t imagine the mental stamina to go that far in those conditions. How did the bag feel on the back after such a huge ride, it looks great but would like to know this detail.
Josh had it stacked the the seams with food from the start, by the time he finished and the food + water was gone he forgot it was there and couldn't feel it.
hey! just to clear this up the challenge starting point is the Restrap factory :) It brings our customers closer to us and also means that everyone's effort is in an equal setting.
Obviously June/July/August would be a somewhat easier time to try the challenge with the extra daylight hours and less chance of cold weather and icy roads. It may not, however, be quite so inspiring. Bravo!
I dunno ... some pretty stunning places in the North to inspire riders - usually verdant countryside bathed in peak Summer sun near a body of water of some kind. There's a reason The Lakes, Peaks and Dales are heaving with cyclists around that time!
It is surprisingly comfortable and the weight distribution sits high up on the back to prevent issues. Also the longer you use it.. the less food and water is in it ;)
Can testify to this..used it for a solo ride from Leeds to Whitehaven over Wrynose and Hardknott pass last week..150 miles and no pain. Should get a discount being a Leeds lad but one can dream…
Sounds like a good challenge, regardless of start point. With Leeds just under 400km from my house, my North race will pretty much end at your factory door. If i make it in 24 hours (brief Google check says 22 hours cycling), can i at least get a sticker? Extra context, I'm 54, overweight, and last years London to Brighton is the furthest I've ever ridden!
@@Restrapltd I'm trying to be green and cycle from my home in Somerset to the factory. Will get train home. Otherwise, I'll have to train/drive 400km to your factory, then cycle 400k north, then drive/ train 800k home again. Plus, I was only hoping on a sticker! 😜
@Restrapltd I'll do my best. I'm long overdue a daft but memorable self challenge! It'll be great if you do find a patch, I promise to sew it onto my canister bag 🤜🤛👍
Well … how unsupported a ride is, when it is filmed, hence accompanied by a crew in a car, is always difficult to answer, . Especially at night it makes a huge psycological difference. I wouldn't have written this comment, if he wouldn't have started to talk about how isolated you feel during the night - right after he had talked to the camera-man during a break. That is not "alone in the dark", sorry.
We expected at least one comment like yours don't worry. It was important to us to film his attempt as a source of inspiration and marketing for both our challenge and new product. It was still self supported and we won't be retracting Josh's insane effort in those 24 hours :)
@@Restrapltd Thanks for your reaction, especially for its kindness. I wasn't content with my post, because it lacks nuances. (English is not my native language.) Another try, hopefully more differentiated: 1) The whole "motivation/marketing"-reasoning is completely obvious to me - and legitimate IMHO. And i am totally aware that I am a UA-cam-watcher; so part of the ecosystem. 2) This is not a race, but a very nice idea of an endeavour. 3) What bothers me is more the exaggeration in the words, wich is so common in the outdoor-movie scene. Everything is a bikepacking adventure - even if they have obviously no baggage on their bikes, are acompanied by a crew-car and sleep in hotel (everything sponsored) … This is not the case in this movie! But you couldn't withstand the temptation to babble about "the loneliness of the night-ride" and the "complete darkness" when obviously there is a car driving behind the rider, with car-headlights brightening the street, and a camera-team the rider can talk to when ever he feels to. 4) All that said, I still hope it was "selfsupported" in the sense of "no help/clothes/food/water from the car, and no sitting in it during breaks"; and even if not, I am still in awe about his feat :-)
@@kstoeb Hey don't worry about the language nuances, your comment is totally valid! :) The film might make it look like we just drove next to him the whole night but the bits we filmed are the only parts we saw him, the rest of the time Jack (Cinematographer), Jon (Driver) and me (Photographer) were driving along the route searching for potential good compositions for when he came past. We also had a sleep in the van in Innerleithen (where the timestamp shot was taken) and the next time we saw him was when he told us how cold he got. He was genuinely alone for most of it :) All of his kit was on him and his only resupply for food was the Gregg's in Edinburgh. Thanks for your comment! :)
Beautifully filmed! And hats off to the rider for pulling this one off!
Wish we'd known. Only live 15 minutes away. You deserved a reception committee. Well done. Tremendous effort. Hope you're proud.
Nobody came to meet me when I did a2.4k tour
Legendary effort 🙌 so beautifully captured. & really appreciated the time date location popup cues 🥂 kudos & ride on
I've seen Josh ride all over the world but somehow think he fits this landscape best.
A nice summer's day would make a big difference. Well done JR
Sprinting out of the villiage within the first ten mins of a ride like this is insane
Beautifully filmed, excellent work.
fair play and great to see you take the scenic route through the Dales not just hug the A1 north ;-)
I think you might just have started something pretty special! Brilliant idea and an awesome benchmark set by Josh. Well done Restrap!
Incredible achievement super smooth video and stunning scenery! Thank you I really enjoyed watching.
Magnifique. Tout simplement.
Amazing effort, Josh and beautifully shot too!

Love the concept and how it can be done anywhere in the world. Superb film to capture the spirit of it too. 👍🏼👍🏼

I don't think it can be done everywhere, what if you live on the north coast of the Isle of Man😊
great soundtrack!
Excellent video and marketing at its best. Well done all.
Great to see you have discovered the magic of Win Wing mudguards...
Insane 😂 but a really well made film i loved every minute! Good work to all involved
A pork energy bar always helps, well done Josh superb effort 👍👍
Outstanding! And clearly an inhuman effort because it’s managed to get at least one negative comment.
This is a really nice film. Good job all round. I'd rather be filming than riding that's for sure!
Brilliant video and a superb effort. Top job!
Well Done Josh Mental Effort and brilliant Video.
cracking video, Josh is a mad rider huge respect to him! See you at restrap HQ in the autumn for some storm surfing
Very cool. Truly epic accomplishment.
well done excellent ride and with no sleep.
Incredible & Inspiring :)
Me and my dad are the cyclists at the beginning! Fair one Josh an epic day out 🫡
So glad you found the video!
You gave us a good laugh when we found your audio in the edit 😂 "You must be mad aren't you"
😂😂
Great video. Clever concept. Do you mind sharing a kitlist?

Very nice challenge and video
Wow! Great effort Josh, and the film crew, such an enjoyable 15-minute watch. Subscribed! May I ask, what front light is Josh using here?
He's using an Exposure Strada (Y)
Great video and amazing effort!
Great video! What are the shoes worn at 0:09?
amazing
Superb effort, chapeau! Out of interest, what was front light was he using?
About 40 mins, it gets a bit soggy north of Cromer !!😅😅
Amazing film. Curious to know what rain jacket he uses? 😅
Josh is sponsored by Café du Cycliste
Great video and a superb effort. What make is the yellow/orange jacket you are wearing? Thank you.
Josh is sponsored by Cafe du Cycliste - you can find the kit he's wearing on their site :)
Just magnificent... I wish I was still you and foolish ...LOL...
Epic..
Good effort 👏. Am curious about the race vest - does it not put extra weight on spine and sit bones especially on such a long ride?

You won't see a haggis on the roads in the Borders. Need to head to the Trossachs or Argyle.
crazy
Hi. What kind of jacket you are wearing the in video? The yellow one? Thx
24 hours of Le Mans vibes
You should make some cloathing i bet "The north race" shirts would sell really well! :D
We think we are already being cheeky with the logo :P
311 miles sounds abit less..why is everyone changing to kms on a challenge 😬
We're in the UK so we use metric and imperial measurements interchangeably. It's the most logical way.
How frequently were you eating? I only have to average 14mph, think I can beat your record. Rode 120 miles in 7 hours with bikepacking gear.
great film. Why didnt he ride for the full 24 hrs?
he spent too long appreciating the view at the castle and ran out of time. gives you a bit more of a chance to beat him :D
I’d love to be that fit. Next life!
so dramatic 🤪nice scenery tho.

What winter jacket is Josh wearing?

What brand tires you rode in. Thank you.
Hutchinson Blackbirds :) (in a 32c i believe)
👏🤛
Why on earth would you be sprinting out of corners in the very beginning of such a ride..??
Josh can't help it, too much fun
I did 320 miles unsupported in 24 hours with just a saddle bag and a few bottles lol
That is awesome, Josh did 313 unsupported with just a top tube and a hydration vest :D
Knocked it off as soon as he slapped a sticker on a sign
Why do we have to look at all this virtue signalling I was here shit
you missed out on a good film! we asked him to put the sticker there (on our sign) so other people could join in :)

irritating music, almost unwatchable
I quite liked it, but then I do enjoy Vangelis’ score for Blade Runner 😂
glad it was just *almost* unwatchable and not fully unwatchable :)
@@Restrapltd The music adds nothing, and spoils an otherwise good video.
