I have a satin and gloss J45 and by watching this video, I'm seeing similar results to what I perceive in person. The satin finishes are a softer tone, a bit warmer and fuller, and the gloss has a sharper attack, with more high harmonics and a bell-like ringing. I like them both.
Well, probably one of theee best D-18, D-28 side-by-sides we've heard on studio monitors (not consumer monitors). Great job. Concur with most, the difference is almost indiscernable and probably wouldn't be noticed in the mix, unless a solo performance however, even then, most listeners wouldn't notice the subtle difference. Regardless, and again, great, outstanding demo.
Not a whole lot of difference to my ears through monitors. I think I hear a bit more bass from the satin finished versions, but it could be my perception.
The differences are very subtle....the gloss I think just slight puts a bit more shade to the sound...just a tiny bit softer sound, but again, it's a very subtle thing.
Generally speaking, the D-18 will be slightly more articulate with defined string separation. D-28s, by contrast have rosewood back and sides which lends a more balanced midrange and a pronounced bass response. They both have great qualities. It depends on the individual as to which suits them best.

Great comparison!
That D28 Satin has a huge sound to me. It sounded the best.
There’s a big difference in price.
Can here the bass ring of RW on the finger picked tune, and the projection of mids and highs in flat picked Mahogany.
Yes there is a difference, the satin finish guitars sound more open. Makes sense as tops vibrate more with less chemicals on them.
Everything in the known universe is a chemical and both guitars have near identical amount of 'chemicals' on them
@@oldstarouijaboard42 Shh. Science has no place within the guitar universe. lol
Is a D18 (own one) very different in sound compared to the D28?

not much
Excellent comparison video.
To my ear, the semi-gloss models of each sounded clearer, more alive.
no difference at all. studio monitors and headphones. great consistency in playing.
The D-18 with the gloss is, to these ears, the superior of the four.
