@@africantraveller8303 , we don measure a city or province on the number of squatter camps coz if that were the case, Johannesburg would even make the list coz it has an overwhelming number of squatter camps. In the US, leftist who bleat about equity, inclusion and diversity are collapsing entire states with their "defund the police" and other nonsense and afterwards, when they see the mess they've created they pack up and move to conservative states where they start bleating about the same nonsense.
This trend will happen here. They have collapsed KZN, EC, Gau... now time to move to the one place that still works... so they can vote for ANC from there.

One can't see this semigration to Cape Town as a win because of its 'success' but because of the massive failure of surrounding provinces and cities. Cape towns 'success' will be its ultimate downfall, the cost alone to meet the increasing needs of traffic infrastructure, municipal services, housing for the overcrowded townships are but a few of the challenges and are huge, good luck to all Caprtonians with the increase costs as well as overpriced food. I live in Pietermaritzburg and it’s CBD is littered, dirty and run down. Thanks to the ANC. There are people trying to rejuvenate and tidy the CBD up, and those people are concerned community members - not the useless ANC run municipality. Obviously ANC voters don’t mind dirty and run down cities. Awfully low standards these ANC politicians and voters seem to have, which also ties in with a lack of pride in their surroundings. By contrast, driving through Howick yesterday, after not going through there for a few years, it is much cleaner, very little litter and it just looks so much more promising than Maritzburg. I wonder why? Oh yes, because the ANC are no longer running Howick. The ANC are only care about themselves and their bank accounts. If the really cared about all South Africans, they would start cleaning up their cities and towns, encouraging investment with much less red tape, and sorting out the crime. Just the basics would be a good start. Problem is, they only care about themselves.

So why don’t the community members of the poverty stricken areas in the Cape that you mentioned, just for starters, clean up litter, and encourage the youth to study hard and play sport, not join gangs and be involved in crime. There is a group of youngsters that call themselves The green youth of Kwapata outside PIetermaritzbrg and they are doing it for their community and not expecting the ANC to do so, those are the future leaders of this country, not like so many of the useless ANC politicians who only think about themselves and their own enriching.

They knew that once these mines ran dry, there were going to be millions of jobless people left stranded in these areas, putting tremendous pressure on social services. These are the people who litterally installed the ANC as the ruling party, even though they also controlled the NP as well. Walk into many houses in the Northern suburbs of JHB, and you'll see photo's of Mandela posing with them, but these are also the people who barricaded puplic roads and streets to control access in their neighbourhoods almost over night, in 1994 when the ANC came to power.
