@Alexander I know what it is, but it's very small and this video doesn't explain what it feels like. Besides, I'm a woman and don't have an Adam's apple.
Thank you so much. I've been dealing with muscle tension dysphonia as an extension of my PTSD I suffer from because of a violent relationship I was in. It's made me feel so ugly and small. I learned so much from this video and came away with more compassion for myself and my dysphonia.
Several years ago after a really big yawn apparently dislocated my hyoid bone because of the immediate severe discomfort along with what felt like clicking and clicking in my lower throat. It was horrifying to think I'd never rid myself of this painfully annoying condition so even tho I didn't know what I was doing, began manipulating my throat and after a couple of hours managed to find relief. However was left with a very sore throat. Then it recently occurred again only this time THANK GOD happened across this video. I carefully followed these instructions and it worked like a charm.
This looks like a good method, but the video isn't helpful. It's not clear how to release the tension. What is the technique? An explanation would have helped.
This was really helpful, I didn't think it would be. After I did this I then noticed how my tongue feels out of balance too, so there must be a few things going on with me, but glad to have one issue identified and alleviated for a bit.
I have a clicking in the upper corner of the voicebox when I swallow. Depends on the chin's position. What can be wrong in the neck's position, because relaxing the throat won't help?
There is so many muscles and interactions going on in the neck and voice box area. I would highly suggest you work with someone who really knows the area like a PT who specializes in TMJ or a myofunctional therapist.
there are no such specialists where i live, doctors laugh at me when i say my that my larynx clicks when i swallow. They all think its nervous thing or its like an usual tick that you hear in your ear when you swallow, but its not. I can say with 100% certainty that its actually something touching something but don't know what it is or how to fix it. I believe its due to muscle tension/misalignment on right side of my neck, but not amount of massage fixes it, in fact massage makes it worse. dont know what to do.
I have the same issue. No one gets it. I have TMD as well which I think is causing it and the constant strain I feel every time I talk. Ugh! So annoying. I researched and found the major muscles that affect the jaw- massiter, temporalis and medial and lateral pterygoids, I’ve been learning how to massage them externally and internally hoping that with consistency I can relax my jaw better which will help with the tension that’s spilled into my throat. In addition to that I read about the SCM, levator and upper trap muscle stretches that can help release my neck tension, again hoping that will help with what is going on in my throat. Been doing these every day for 2 days. We’ll see what happens.
'Mewing' looks promising. I haven't had a click in a week. Orthotropics -channel Mike Mew and some models talk about it Astro sky and Brett Maverick. Hope that helps.
idk if im doing it right, nor if this is safe for me. could you explain who should and shouldn't do this exercise and what the contraindications are in terms of types of sensations felt during the exercise (eg pain, tightness, tingling, etc)?
Cant understand much how to do should I hold please guide me may if show the side can see I got uneasy feeling so many time I see entire an say there is sharo bone disturb my swallowing hmmm they thing I have chicken bone stuck from malaysis please guide how to place back the position using your exercise but cant understands
Sometimes when I swallow I feel like my hyoid on the right side knocks into something. I cant work out whether its knocking into a submandibular gland that is a bit big or I have an elongated hyoid bone on one side.. anyone else have this issue? I also have c5-c6 and c6-c7 osteophytes and disc slips
Do think this could relive some suction/clicking sounds that can be heard after finishing about 50% of sentences when I speak? I had disc replacement surgery in my neck at the beginning of 2020, and wonder if the throat manipulation might have caused this. I never really realized it until tonight. I had to do a video audition, and could r believe how often and how pronounced the sound was. This is definitely annoying and might end up being an issue.
I have my hyoid touching the Adam’s apple on the left side, and hurts every time I swallow cause they push each other, while the right side, there’s a space between them that It can even fit my fingertip, and I don’t feel any pain, the hyoid its kinda in diagonal position, the left side down and right side up, and at the same time the hyoid is slightly rotated to the left The Adam’s apple is also on the left side slightly lifted and the right side slightly down, so I’m not sure where the problem starts, I feel a little bit when speaking too, and singing hight notes is almost impossible because the pain, but if I turn my head left and swallow or speak I don’t feel pain anymore, only when looking straight or to the right. I don’t know if it’s related but every time I turn my head to the right I hear 8 clicks behind my neck almost on the head and 8 clicks when turning back to the center, it pretty annoying because I hear it loud inside my head, but its okay, years ago I couldn’t accept I would hears this noise forever every time I look to the right but yeah doesn’t hurt, but people around me in a quite place think I just broke some bones when they hear.. anyway probably its not related, I don’t care about fixing the noise anymore, but the hyoid touching the adam’s apple hurt a lot, anyone knows what is this?
Doctor,I have muscle tension dysphonia and i badly need a massage in my laryngeal muscles something just as u showed. I am from India and no laryngeal physiotherapist is present here. Can u just give a solution? I have been to a plethora of voice therapists and SLP s but of no use coz i lack any physical damage.Btw i am a singer.
I’m dealing with anterior neck pain, it feels like the hyoid muscles are all messed up. I feel a knot under my chin on the right side. Imaging and lab work came back negative. I’m not sick but my anterior neck is so messed up. I hate this
Not alot of doctors seem to be aware of Damaged or dislocated Hyoid conditions it seems. What helps A LITTLE bit for me seems to be drinking something warm and/or warm pads against the neck near the hyoid.
Question:do this problem affect my singing. I think i do have this problem because i can't sing normaly like i do,,so much tension on my throat i can't belting because I feel so strange about my throat.btwy this is maybe because i like to sing high and forcing my voice to much..
Same here, my hyoid on left side is down touching the Adam’s apple and when I swallow they push each other and it hurts, the right side has a space between I can even put the fingertip between them, unfortunately not just that, the hyoid is also rotated to the left side, also hurts when speaking but hurt a little less, singing hight notes for me it’s almost impossible because the pain But if I turn the head left and swallow or speak I don’t feel anything
@@StudyingVStudying Do you still feel the clicking thing? I have this too. It's been clicking on the right side of my throat but I don't feel any pain. It's really annoying and frustrating.
@@songgerald3856 I’m not feeling pain now. I’m just feeling something in the hyoid, like it is getting stuck then I turn my head left up and then it makes a sound and something moves inside and I feel a relief
I think my hyoid bone was dislocated one day because it was hard to swallow and eat. It was also more onto one side and my parent never took me to the doctor to check it so I've been living with it and I kinda want it fixed but I didn't know the bone till now
She should show how to find the hyoid bone and what it feels like. I couldn't do these exercises at all
same here

@Alexander Again, I know what it looks like, and I know where it is, but I simply don't feel it. I only feel trachea. Does it feel hard like a bone?
