The title to this video is kind of deceptive. "Saved From the Titanic" was indeed a 1912 film, but this is not it; all copies of the film were destroyed in a fire in March 1914.
@@boy-re8ii According to Wikipedia, Taft received a copy of a Newsreel from Éclair Studios' "Animated Weekly" series, released just one week after the disaster. This newsreel is not the same film as "Saved from the Titanic." So Taft wouldn't have the latter film.

This isn't even the Titanic. That's captain Smith all right, but this footage is from his time on the Olympic. None of of this film is of the Titanic. Uncovered forward promenade deck around 4:30 gives it away. Still, this is awesome footage, and gives a great view of all the equipment on the aft poop deck.
Guys, lemme get this straight. This is not titanic. All copies of this movie were destroyed in a studio fire in 1914. Yea that is Captain Smith, but this is obviously Olympic. There is no real footage of the real titanic. This "movie" is really just a newsreel
There is real footage of titanic’s late construction in Belfast in February 1912 that was shot and posted online by British pathe, although the text incorrectly says April.
This is not titanic, and this is not the movie Saved From The Titanic, but it IS the same footage that was partially re-used in Saved From The Titanic before it was destroyed. The original movie was about 10 minutes long and it started with Dorothy Gibson disembarking from the Carpathia after being rescued. When she went to see her family, they asked her to share her survival story. So it flashes back to this film, in which the Titanic is leaving Southampton for NYC. A few days later at sea, the ship strikes an iceberg, Dorothy gets on a lifeboat and ends with the same footage of Carpathia that was shown in the opening.
@@PsychedelicDefthis isn't the film "Saved from the Titanic", which was lost in a fire. This is a 1912 newsreel that used Olympic footage because back then most wouldn't know the difference between the two ships. The boys clowning around in lifejackets were actual survivors of the disaster just doing what kids do and goofing off for the camera. They probably couldn't fully grasp the magnitude of what had happened and the heartache of so many who lost loved ones. They were just happy to be alive (and now newsreel stars that would soon be seen in theaters all over the country)! They probably got paid a bit too! Once the survivors reached land, journalists were more than happy to throw money at them in exchange for their headliner stories.
While the footage seems not to be from Titanic (the captain was the same on titanic as at sister ship Olympic as well), the Carpathia footage is actually real and it was shot right after they docked to New York with the survivors.
Hi, this is actually footage of the Britanic, the Titanic's sister ship in New York harbour. This footage was also used in the 1912 movie "The Night and Ice" about the sinking of Titanic which was made one month after it sank.
Notice at 4:03 the names of the tugs are "censored" out by scratching the individual film windows. They did this because then it would be even easier to identify that this IS NOT THE TITANIC
There was filming from the cameras of that day, but the film shot, went down with the ship. William Harbeck was hired by White Star Lines to document the trip.
Well gee I aught to wonder why, oh that's right..the Titanic sank 27 days prior to this. They use the olympic because the Olympic is an almost carbon copy of the titanic except for foyers and dining and room assignings being on different levels.
To say watching this footage is "creepy" (particularly @ 1:23) would be an understatement!. This is NOT the film "Saved From The Titanic" as that film was lost in a studio warehouse fire and no copies are known to exist, but it may be some of the "stock footage" that was used in the film?!. What makes watching this even worse is knowing the majority of people on this ship (particularly the men and the majority of the 3rd class passengers ) perished!.And if any of the "conspiracy theories" surrounding her sinking have any merit, it makes it all the worse as this disaster NEVER should have happened and could have completely been AVOIDED!.. The sinking of the Titanic is a testament to man's arrogance and human error!. There are literally a DOZEN (more or less) errors/factors responsible for the ship sinking and changing even one of these screwups would/could have saved if not Everyone, the large majority!..
If the title is right, then the Olympic is being used here because Titanic was gone and Brittanic didn't exist. This would mean this footage is from after the Titanic disaster.
Can someone tell me why at 4:18 it looks like someone's tried to cover something? I'm not clued up about the 3 ships or about ships in general I just like looking at stuff about Titanic and watching docs about the various Titanic expeditions because I'm fascinated but I don't know anything else lol
Because the names of the tugs would give away the fact that this is the Olympic leaving New York for Southampton in 1911, not the Titanic going the other way a year later. Olympic footage was often used in the wake of the tragedy to make up for the fact that there was very little visual material of Titanic available.
Wow, everyone looked so friendly, joyful and happy back then. I wish everyone was like that now. I wish I lived that century so very bad. But is this actual footage of the Titanic?
