    Jimmy Stewart was not just an actor. He was a real-life American hero. A skilled pilot, he refused special treatment as a celebrity to fly combat missions deep into occupied Europe in WWII, in B-17s and B-24s. Despite trying to keep a low profile during his service, he retired as a Major General in 1968 with a slew of medals for his heroism in combat. He even flew in a B-52 as an observer on a combat mission over Vietnam in 1966. Jimmy Stewart was a great man.

      @@ArsPraestigium , you are obviously deeply ignorant of American history and the Red Scare and the Hollywood Blacklist, when production studios hewed to a politically correct dictate created by right wing power brokers and racists. Today there is far more creativity and artistic and speech freedoms than existed for more than the first 60 years of filmmaking.
      Tuned out? You sound tuned out. A single U.S. film can easily take in more revenue than the combined revenue of all the films produced by any other single country in a year. Americans are perhaps the heaviest consumers of screen media entertainment in the world and probably well over 90% of the content they consume is, for better or worse, domestically produced. “Hollywood” has never been more powerful and people have never been more rapt by what it produces.

LSD was not illegal, and it was administered by psychiatrists as a therapeutic psychotropic to assist in the psychotherapeutic process. Many doctors and their patients found it very useful and effective.

    Wow what a legend. I always get chills watching this he was such a kind, talented, amazing actor. One of the best. The part when he says "You've given me a wonderful life" omg I nearly want to cry he is so nice and humble. It's A Wonderful Life is my all time favourite of Jimmy's movies and also one of my favourites period. And btw there are some teenagers and young people out there like me who know who James Stewart, Cary Grant and other legendary actors are :D God rest their souls. xxx

    When actors and actresses had class and mutual respect for one another. James Stewart had such dignity, but was a most humble man. As was Cary Grant and most of Hollywood, for that matter, back in the day.

    Men of good character and noble service in this world are invaluable to humanity. Jim personified this in his time in film and military service in WW2. You see how Cary got choked up presenting the award to a man whose real life character touched many people's hearts and minds in a positive way.

    Jimmy Stewart was a deceptively good actor. I invite you to watch his award winning performance in Anatomy Of A Murder, in which he acquits himself beautifully against George C. Scott, in the prime of his career, and Ben Gazzara. His work in Capra's It's A Wonderful Life is masterful.

    • @inkyguy
      @inkyguy 3 роки тому +1

      And the nice thing about Stewart is that unlike George C. Scott he didn’t have the tendency to assault and abuse the people he worked (and lived) with. For a large part of his career, George C. Scott was notorious for his violent temper, including assaulting his wife. I think Scott was an amazingly gifted actor, but those are the facts.

    Stewart won a competitive Best Actor Oscar for Cukor's The Philadelphia Story in 1940; while his work was outstanding, the award was belated compensation for his failure to win in the preceding year for Capra's Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. He also was nominated for his performance in Anatomy Of A Murder, for which he won the New York Film Critics Award.

      Because of this it has been frequently argued that they were stars more than actors, defining a star as someone who basically plays various versions of themselves in their movies. Stewart and Grant would be perhaps two perfect examples.
