I’ve found that for me whole body workouts three times a week works wonders. That’s the routine I’ve been doing for the past five years, I started that training when I was 45 and soon will be turning the big 50 on the twenty second of this month.
I’ve recently just started watching Obi and i already love this guy , he has been so helpful. Can’t wait until he blows up and gets the recognition he deserves. So many people will appreciate his videos like I do. Thanks again Obi !
Having fun with it and changing up my exercises was my biggest problem, i used to do the same thing, and take it too serious and it turned into a second job, took a month off, and started going 3 days a week, and added and removed some stuff to my workout, and learned to just have fun with it, and im having the best time of my life, and getting stronger, and bigger

Thank you so much for this video man. The most important tips I will take with me are learning how to diversify my trainings and explore new things and most importantly to enjoy, ENJOY everytime I go to the gym and do my trainings, even laughing on my own and seeing how my body responds to a new exercise, how the pain feels good at the same time, how I feel my muscle waking up with every training, how much strength I gained this week compared to two weeks ago, how my look is improving when I see myself in the mirror and how healthy and happy I feel with myself and my body. I will definitely keep having fun! Thanks Obi
One of the things I wish I realized when I first started lifting is how seated calve raises work your calves vs standing calve raises. Standing basically work the top part of the calves. Seated works the inner part of the calve which pushes against the other top part. Working the inner part of the calve helps to thicken the calve even more than working the outer part.
I remember in my Form tutors room there was a quote which stated: "An expert in anything was once a beginner" and it has always stuck with me and gives me hope not to give up.
I was really hoping, and maybe this is an idea for another video. But, I was hoping you'd do a slideshow of your progress over the past ten years and briefly discuss each photo/stage of training. That thumbnail sparked interest.
@@redleader6186 I'd say more that there was a fifth gear moment. By that, I mean a moment where the athlete says "No bullshit, someone is funding me to workout and compete. From here on it's all steamed chicken, rice and broccolli and 3 hour sessions, no skip days." I follow the Crossfit games and it's clear that these people from Matt Fraser to Tia Claire Tomey all have a moment when they're going along nicely in fourth gear but decide to shift it into fifth. In fact, I was just reading an interview with Katrin Davidsdottir where you hear about that moment. I've even seen an interview where The Rock talks about his moment where he kicked it up into full speed.
I'm almost 53. I started working out in 1991. It's only now that my body seems to be responding. Reasons why? #1: over training, not giving my body time to rest and recover. #2, #3: caring too much about what others thought, comparing myself to others, NOT HAVING FUN/ENJOYING IT. What these three did for me was flood my body with cortisol. Your mood really does affect your biology more than you realize. Now, I only work out 3X a week, approximately an hour, turn off the negative internal dialogue. Now my muscles are responding. Go figure!

Genetics does play a huge role. I'm Asian 5'8 @150 pounds and its damn near impossible to put on weight because my metabolism is strong (without risking unhealthy fat). I’m so happy I found you Obi, your positivity is so nice and your realness of staying in your lane has helped me a lot. I love the videos and can’t wait to see where my lifting/fitness journey takes me! Side note that second leg day still has me dead 😂
Here is my take after 40 years of bb coaching and gym ownership....and it is VERY controversial. 1 Style. First rep executed same as last rep. Fail at 9 1/2, dont cheat to get 10 reps. Do 10 next time. 2. No more than 12 movements for total body workout. One warm up set, and one " hii set" (count reps accurately) as 1. 3. Superset every movement. eg leg ext, leg curl, with legs, followed by one compound movement, ie squats or leg press. Chest press/ row, o.h. press /chins or lat machine etc etc 4. No more than 1 hour in the gym. More, and your mind builds up a resistance, subconsciously focussing on endurance (holding back) reducing intensity. 5. 48 hours recovery...thats when the growth takes place. The body works holistically. The process involves hormones NOT force feeding. Your biceps wont fully recover, while your triceps are being hit.!!! This applies to the whole body. Full body stimulates max hormone response. 6. Nutrition has been hyjacked by commercial interests. Eat healthy, whether marathoning or b.blg. Its all about the hormones (why do you think, inspite of all the supplements, $teroids are $till required ?) This really is " plain sailing". For an adult healthy participent, potential can be chieved in two years or less. Genetics play a part, but you dont know until later on what the restrictions are. Some have fantastic " mental application" genetics, some have great biological genetics. World champs have both. Same training applies to all. Variety is not required. Mental application is. Start workout on cross trainer and hit max heart rate (220 minus age). 1 minute steady, 30 seconds flat out . Four to five rounds will do it. This will give you the oxygen debt capacity you need.
Thanks for covering the genetics. Many people and even worse trainers do not understand how one's genetics plays a significant role in their development!!
@@redleader6186 I am not questioning any assumption whether he is or is not. I just appreciate the fact that he mentioned genetics as a significant factor in one's looks.

I’m so happy I found you Obi, your positivity is so nice and your realness of staying in your lane has helped me a lot. I love the videos and can’t wait to see where my lifting/fitness journey takes me! Side note that second leg day still has me dead 😂
Yup Obi's awesome. Glad I found his channel.
thanks a bunch, Obi! Simple and powerful tips in the same time! you do inspire me
Wow! Definitely ZERO to HERO bro. Your videos are inspirational and I’ve stopped skipping leg 🦵 days.
I'm glad you ended with #1
Here is my take after 40 years of bb coaching and gym ownership....and it is VERY controversial.
Chest press/ row, o.h. press /chins or lat machine etc etc
Its all about the hormones (why do you think, inspite of all the supplements, $teroids are $till required ?)
This really is " plain sailing".
Thanks for the quality information.
This is great
awesome advice
@@Moniemon7 Well spotted Moniemon....wont go down well with commercial organisations , as I have proven over the last 40 years of gym ownership.
@@bigfletch8 it shows that you know your stuff.I've been a pt for the last 10 years and I know when someone knows their stuff haha. much respect
Obi I’ve only just started following you! Bro you are my bodybuilding hero! You are my motivation! Keep going bro 💪🙏💙
Such an amazing transformation. It was all hard work, no excuses. Congratulations!
Thanks for covering the genetics. Many people and even worse trainers do not understand how one's genetics plays a significant role in their development!!
You must also know that he is on steroids. It's bot his genetics that make him look like this.
@@redleader6186 I am not questioning any assumption whether he is or is not. I just appreciate the fact that he mentioned genetics as a significant factor in one's looks.
I feel you on the genetics: chest and back are easy to build, but arms and legs are really hard to make bigger.
dastructoman1 I assume you’re short and stocky. I’m tall and lean with long limbs
You seem to be the nicest, coolest dude! Really appreciated the video, gave me some inspiration to go work out some more
I'm guilty of all 8. Thanks for helping me refocus!
you must be arrested
Yes my friend. Never be scared to try new techniques.
Number one protect my organs, kidney, liver, bladder, prostate, by not taking steroids. That’s what a lot of my friends said before dialyses, surgeries and death.
Great advice. Especially about not comparing yourself to others. I am hoping to do one bodybuilding competition in 5 years. Looking for all the advice I can get. Thanks again!!
