I ENJOYED MUSIC LIKE THIS, LONG BEFORE ANY GAITHER HOMECOMING VIDEO SERIES. THE HYMNS AND THE SPIRIT OF CAMPMEETING WAS WHAT I WAS RAISED UPON... I'VE SHOUTED GLORY, AMEN, PRAISE THE LORD. WHAT A SPIRIT OF REVIVAL ON THIS VIDEO, SOMETHING THAT THE WORLD NEEDS TO SEE AL THOMAS
Both Carolyn and I wish that we could have been there, but prior commitments prevented us from joining you. We love you All and think of you often! We WILL one day be there with you, and in the meantime this music thrills our hearts as we remember our 'growing up days' back in LaFollette, Tennessee. These wonderful songs take us way back!! Thanks, Charles Lingerfelt, Dallas, Texas

I too wish I could have had the opportunity to have been present at this uplifting service. This anointed Church of God singing is magnificent, as is also the new chapel. Having been raised in the Church of God, this song service brings back wonderful memories of my childhood, and of our church singing these songs. I commend Dr. Conn for supplying the new Lee University Chapel with copies of the CHURCH HYMNAL. Thank you, Dr. Conn, for your marvelous vision to keep this wonderful music alive.
And by the way I knew every single one of these on this video by heart and sung them right along with everyone.. lol... So yeah I am a old time Christian and Proud of it.. anyone else?
Our church used the "Redback Church Hymnal" for years & years. It's now fell by the wayside and the church uses the more contemporary. So sad.... Nothing better than the songs in this old hymn book.
There are still a few Churches of God around that sing the older songs we have 4 churches in our county (all on same 10mi stretch of US1, go figure.) 2 churches are more traditional, while ours and the other one play more contemporary. We almost always sing at least 1-2 classic songs each service though. It's hard for me to partial to just one style though, as long as I'm singing to God, and for God, I'm happy!
Amen Andrew. As a former COG member who just wanted to live holiness, I have observed that the Baptist have not changed but have actually grown stronger. We have Bapticostals in my town. The ole timers said "Holiness or Hell". We may have to redefine Holiness, but I think it has to do with putting God first instead of the church party.
It's great to see these songs sung. I remember and know nearly all of them without the Hymnal. I just wish the Church today would go back to its roots. Regarding the LIBERAL AOG, Assembly of God is not liberal, it's one of the few churches that still believes in healing, speaking in tongues and gifts of the Spirit. Regardless, it looked great to see people of God praising His name. I just wish more Churches did this more often.
I live in the Greenville SC area and am thoroughly knowledgeable of the AOG in this area. These AOG's have the following characteristics which I have personally witnessed: 1) Worldly dress standards 2) 100% use of contemporary music (think Rock) 3) Women wear pants to service 4) AOG members openly use tobacco 5) AOG members in some churches use alcohol on social occasions. I could continue the list but I think the point has been made. Even more alarming is that in these churches any kind of spiritual life is completely missing. The last time a gospel song was heard in this group was in the late 1940's.
So sad when well meaning people do not know their history. We have a new channel with some old time holiness and Pentecostal singing, teaching and preaching from Arkansas and other places. Find us at MT ZION CONWAY DLF MEDIA MINISTRY. None of the modern day churches are even close to what they was and what they preached fifty years ago. A total different gospel and experience
I have looked all over for the song Take it to the lord in prayer page 307 in the red back hymnal. It is different from the one you always find on the net.
Would love to know if they are having another singing like this soon. We use the Church Hymnal at my baptist church and love the old convention style music. I do hope next time the leader leads the songs instead of singing over everyone. Voices should be blended.
I have just made a discovery!!! I grew up in the Church of God of Prophecy. We didn't have the red back hymnal. We had the " blue book', the Banner Hymns Hymnal. I have an old Blue book. As they called out the page numbers in this video, I checked my blue book. THEY ARE THE SAME!!! The COG Red Back is the same as the CGOP Blue Book. I wonder if the first five pages are the same. In the blue book, we have hymns specifically written for the Church of God and you never hear them sung anymore.
my my, how church has changed... so sad.. I was raised on this hymal book in the church of God... Out of the 410 pages in this book i think at last count I knew over 300 of them... So There's not that many I don't know the page number or song .. Now the church of God and so many others have went to this horrible contempary praise and worship style, where there is no doctrine, Holy Ghost, no blood, no baptism, It's so sad how far the church is away from the real moving of the Holy Ghost!
Lord Help us! I love these songs and know most all of them by heart and page number but Dear God.................how the Church of God has fallen apart and found it's doctrine more liberal and worldly than ever! My Mom is a minister and when I clicked on this video to watch it........I was offended that the women are dressed in pants and short hair with jewelry and so on and IN THE HOUSE OF GOD! WHY? Did God's word change or was it just how it's interpreted! WAKE UP CHURCH OF GOD!
The critical comments remind of the Biblical Pharisees criticism of Jesus : you dirty sinner, you aren't doing the way we've done it for over 100 years. That spirit of legalism has alienated multitudes from the Church.
First, I would like to say that I love the beautiful music and singing. Second, I must comment on the pitiful legalism in some of the comments. There is no Scriptural prohibition against women wearing pants or slacks. Some may choose to abuse the Scripture that speaks men and women wearing one another's clothing, but that Scripture has nothing to do with pants.
As a Church of God minister in Tennessee I have faced the legalist many times. One lady that was upset about women wearing slacks went house to house stirring up trouble. When I confronted her in front of the person with the most influence in the church I asked her to give me Scripture to support her position and I would embrace it as well. Of course she could not other than that which pertaineth to a man or woman. I told her it did not mention slacks/pants. I asked her why she was interested in only the garments that went from the waist to the ankles. If we are to talk about garments it must include all garments. I mentioned she had a button up shirt on the same as I did so one of us must be wrong. I also mentioned she had shoes with laces as I did as well so one of us must be wrong. I went on to tell her that she could not present a Scripture for women wearing pants but I could for those that run around stirring up division. I have faced it other times and handled it different ways. Each time the Lord gave wisdom in how to address it with the person. There are well meaning people that have embraced the traditions of men instead of searching the Scriptures.
Hmmmm......No scriptural prohitition against women wearing slacks (or men wearing feminine clothing).......The Bible most certainly does have an admonition which is as follows: Deut. 22-5....THE WOMAN SHALL NOT WEAR THAT WHICH PERTAINS TO THE MAN, NEITHER SHALL A MAN PUT ON A WOMAN'S GARMENT: FOR ALL THAT DO SO ARE ABOMINATION TO THE LORD YOUR GOD". Evidently all you pentecostal women who wear pants and you pentecostal men who encourage this practice are ENTIRELY IGNORANT OF YOUR BIBLE. I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIRST (1) MAKE SURE YOU ARE DRESSED IN APPROPRRIATE CLOTHING FOR YOUR SEX AND THEN (2) DUST OFF YOUR KING JAMES BIBLE AND READ IT.....WHO KNOWS, YOU JUST MAY LEARN HOW TO RESPECT THE LORD GOD AND HIS WORD.
I see you still did not present a Scripture that refers to "Pants". You can use the KJV or any other version and it does not mention pants. You cannot find a reference to pants in the Scripture and the Bible says not to "add to ..... or take away". You need to be careful in what you are adding to God's Inspired Word. When a person crosses the line as we see in these days of trying to pass themselves off as the opposite sex then certainly the Scripture applies. I'm sure you are an honest person trying to follow the Lord with your whole being. Instead of casting stones try praying for folks and if you take time to listen when you are praying you may learn something from The Master.
If I had not seen the reference to "Lee University", I would never have never taken this to be associated with a Pentecostal church. The Baptist churches have more anointing in their singing than this, and they dress more modest. The COG needs to return to it's roots of Holiness...
These are some of our favorite old songs. We still sing this type of singing and believe in the old time way of worship. We have a new channel with some old time holiness and Pentecostal singing, teaching and preaching from Arkansas and other places. Find us at MT ZION CONWAY DLF MEDIA MINISTRY. Holiness videos are a great alternative to so much filth that is on here.
I got accepted to this school, but by looking at this, this ain't got a bit of pentecost in it. Where is the praise being lifted up to the most high God? Why ain't nobody clapping and praising God? Regardless of how the music sounds. Least here at CIU people praise God. And yes, I am a member of the great Church of God.
+Brody Pope I have my own copy of our Blue Book (CGOP). The spine on it is torn in an odd way. Looking at it and thinking back, I realized what did it. Using the spine of the book to clap into the palm of the persons hand. Had to be that. Remember the cool ways we'd clap? The Chop...Using the hymn book, ....the flippy flop. lol. We had us a time.
If we had hymnbooks in the church, I'd clap with mine too. We have what my mama used to call, The drop down hymnal or the hymnal on the wall. It's just contemporary pop songs written in the last year.

Wish you people could experience real Holy Ghost Church where God shows up and Jesus passes in your midst. I've been COG over 50+ years and KNOW. Dear Brody Pope: As a close observer of the COG for over fifty years, I have bad news for you. The traditional COG does not exist as far as Cleveland (Headquarters) is concerned. Your denomination has morphed into a contemporary movement......which features contemporary values, music and dress modes. The COG is not holiness by any measure.....and your hierarchy openly ENDORSES this. I know of Baptist churches who exhibit holiness standards that the COG once had. A very sad day for the COG.
Why would they not put a Hammond Organ in that chapel ? That speaks volumes for placing a letergical sounding Allen or something that apprears to be. THEY DO NOT WANT THE GOSPEL SOUND. They have gone "uptown" amen amen
My guess is that an Allen organ, or whatever kind of organ that is, fits in better in the bigger picture than a Hammond does, for the university’s needs. They might have traditional church services with the hymns, and the services might not be just Church of God, but maybe other Protestant denominations. They might have recitals from time to time, and may use it for special occasions.
It's about seeking the Spirit of Jesus not all these degrees (and I've got one) that matter! Holy Spirit transcends denominational barriers to find those who seek Him! I've found recently that some COGs some COGOPS som AOGs seek him but not only that some Baptists experience the real POWER that we used to know at every meeting and camp-meeting in the COG. Lee has been good but it's been about as equally damaging to the Church as good. We've got to start seeking the real spirit of Jesus again!
Them folks ain't worshippin at all. I can't wait to go to that college next year abd show um how a real Church of God worships. I mean, I don't understand.. I see no clapping, or even hand raising. No worship at all...
The gentleman said "The house of God needs to be sanctified" How about the children of God? Where are the Holiness standards that the COG had before? Its hard to believe that the women are on the platform in slacks.
Reading the ridiculous comments below is hysterical. People hung up on women wearing pants (supposedly because these are "men's" clothing?) when if we were going to be Biblical, everyone would have to wear tunics (a.k.a. dresses!) , and wouldn't THAT be funny! The worse thing about this video is the people in the choir. Very distracting, esp the guy on the front row who refused to sing. I love red back hymnal singing, but this just didn't do it for me. It was stiff and something's not right. If I was giving it a grade, it would get a C. Points for content, minimal points for execution. I felt bad for the song leader. It's a tough job when people won't cooperate and lack enthusiasm.

It's so great to see people excited about singing for Jesus. I enjoyed the music. God bless you,
Truly a night to remember. I Must Tell Jesus touched my soul. Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely wonderful! God Bless all of you for making this available here.
Thanks Lee, enjoyed every selection.

my son is a gloriious bass.
I'm on the Red Book wagon. There is a distinct difference in worship with the 'new' contemporary style. Bring on the hymns ...
One word AWESOME
Heritage. It's not a shame.
Was this the only occasion the red back hymnal is used in the Chapel? I pray not ! -- Great songs -- great singing!!!!!!!
Lee University is one of the biggest party colleges in the country. I wouldn't let me kids go there knowing what goes on within that university.
