John, Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Aretha Franklin...he had hope she would sing it..it has a real gospel, attending church feel to it...note the hand clapping.
This is such a great song. The "Queen choir" consisted of Roger Taylor, Brian May and Freddie Mercury overdubbing a few hundred times. When you hear the recording you think that they could never reproduce it on stage. Well, it turned out they just did it differently but even better. Watch Somebody to Love live in Montreal 1981. I think it's the best version because Roger Taylor's backing vocals are the best. He and Freddie's voices blended together beautifully. Queen always gave 110% on stage and it showed.
yvr kid - BTW, John also sang at the end and sang the chorus in concert. I know because I saw them do this song and others live and John often sang backup, just never lead as he was insecure about his voice (which I thought was just fine). Often in videos, you can see John head to the mic and they switch to somebody else. That always bugged me! :(
I second the recommendations to react to Queen doing this song live in Montreal 1981. I adore the studio version but am mesmerized by the live version. Queen, with Freddie and John, were an innovative band who pushed the musical envelope. They would not allow themselves to be constrained by the “rules of the day” and instead blazed their own trail. Their studio work is impeccable but their live shows demonstrated why they were the best live band ever.
Cool reaction but man you should have done the live performance from Montreal 1981. It’s the one that guarantees lots of views, but more importantly for you Freddie’s live vocals and performance skills would have been inspirational for you. Please do it my man. Want to see your jaw drop.
One of my favourite - if not my favourite - Queen songs. I never get sick of hearing it and to think it came out in 1976. Amazing. I do love the Montreal live performance too as Rogers backing vocals are fantastic but I also love this version. The Queen choir do make it sound so very special. Thank you for a great reaction. Would love to see you do Montreal too soon. All the best from 🇦🇺
My favorite Queen song! You should see it live. The lyrics are kinda sad with Freddie pleading to the Lord for him to find somebody to love. Brilliant!
Así te quedaste cuando escuchaste a Elvis Presley.... Para mí Queen y Elvis que no lo conocía pero me enamoré de él... Ambos están hasta la punta del universo....
I have always love QUEENS music. I am 62 and i never thought the younger people of today would enjoy the music from 30 and 40 years ago. Its good to hear. I love alot of the younger groups. White Buffalo,BAD WOLF'S,DISTURBED. I would like to see how you feel about FRANK ZAPPA or SAVORY BROWN,TEN YEARS AFTER,SANTANA
I'd like to add my voice to the others on here. Now you've heard the studio version you need to checkout Montreal '81 and/or Milton Keynes '82, what you'll get is one song but three distinctly different interpretations, each one faultless.
If you don't listen to the live version from Montreal in 1981, you should listen to the Milton Keynes live concert in 1982. I think they are both amazing but different from each other. Queen always kept their performances fresh.
I always recommend their live performances, but this studio version is a must-see because of all the great harmony parts. This song is in my top 10, but that list varies depending on the day. There's just so much great stuff!
A great classic from oueen always did like oueens songs ♥️🎶🎶 another great artist gone to soon 🕺 🎶Freddie had a great voice beautiful song John loved it ♥️ 👍 oueen was just amazing 👍 thanks j John for sharing godbless much loue from uk 🏴 ❤️ 🎸 🎤 🕺🎸🎶☀️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👍
I really enjoyed your reaction! The Montreal and Milton Keynes (live) experience is often described as much better, but just relaxing and watching this special video was really fun. Thank you!
❤ 🎶 "Beautifully 💘 Sensually Heartfelt ; Feelings. An Extraordinary Voice 🎶 and Persona like No other's.. Magnificence 🏆 ln Abundance. Thanks for Sharing Love 💃 and Enjoy a Delightful Evening..", 🎶 ❤
I've heard that this was actually Freddie's favorite -- I'm kind of glad you did the album version - yet - as I'm sure others will recommend --1981 LIVE at Montreal... hope you get around to it....
I love your reaction; this is my favorite song by Queen, as well. As mentioned in several comments, the Montreal 1981 live performance is epic!! Thanks so much, John, you're a delight to watch and your enthusiasm is truly contagious. Sincerely, Anne Craycroft
Remember them well and love the song, reminding me another song Freddie wrote always played Crazy little thing called love. So much great music thank you John
I will tell you something else - Have you heard of Nandi Bushell? She is an 11 year old - maybe 12 by now - drummer who has drum battled with Roger Taylor and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters - and both of them was defeated. She has been on stage with FF and played Everlong - as the only drummer - Taylor Hawkins was watching from backstage with his son - and she killed it. Now she is joining them again at the tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins (who died in the spring this year) among others with Brian and Roger and the FF - and a lot of other prominent musicians. It is on September 3rd - 2022. Just the day after tomorrow. It will be streamed/broadcast - I don't know where - I am from Denmark.
Cam u react to Selena Disco Medley please man. Ive been asking lol. You will get a lot of views of thes Queen of Tejano Music. You'll love it. Thank Gibson 😁😉

of course we all love Queen what side was a little older by the time Queen came along it was more like a my teenage daughters music but I was still a rock and roller by heart the last Elvis song you did did not goodnight show over him you asked for some reason and that's particular song I don't know how many times I've seen it on UA-cam so I don't know what the deal was but that's a second song in about a month or two on Elvis that they did not if they showed it they blocked it afterwards I put it that way I'm not sure if they showed it this time I found it it was blocked don't give up on Elvis you know that Laura has to have Elvis and queen and different ones I mean I won't go into the whole genre I would like for you to try once again because I know you've done a lot of from the love her lots Aloha special and 68 Comeback Special and I playing make sounds come from Canada from India from Australia I don't know about you I'm going to tell you you have you you my German develop I would like to see if they will let you do trying to get to you once more track from the 68 Comeback Special like I said I seen it come off of Canadian station Ana looks like it might have been the Middle East about to go pick all the self is Bros or four brothers I guess please try trying to get to you I know I have a list there my alone and if alamina I'm not sure on her name I know I'm spelling it wrong but anyway get back with me I'm having a little trouble with your email AKA Elvis Junkie you know I've been with you for a little over a year so I must start again on my Elvis last 99% I'm come through I've only seen two recently in this last when you're done and when you're done maybe a month ago can't remember the names right off cuz you know how is telling everybody I was 75 last year no I was 74 so next May I'll be 75 six I mean so it's kind of fun to be 75 for another year your friend Laura

My favorite Queen song Freddie’s favorite too ☺️🥰 Freddie was a great composer and a great arranger as well 🌷RIP 🙏🏼
The Queen choir!
Absolutely beautiful song so powerful and amazing.
❤❤❤❤
Loved &missed
One of my favorites too💖💖💖
Have you heard this live? Montreal is epic. Milton Keynes is also a really good performance.
I'll definitely check it out 😊
The "Queen choir" - you're right, it's signature! I really enjoy Freddie's gospel music side.
Me too! 😊
I love the fact that they were their own backup singers.
John, Freddie wrote this as a tribute to Aretha Franklin...he had hope she would sing it..it has a real gospel, attending church feel to it...note the hand clapping.
I didn't know that! Thanks so much 🙏

One of my favorite Queen songs as well. I love how they kept it loose and just let the mood of the song take on its natural flow.
Exactly!
The best definition of this song, i believe it is 'the white gospel'. One of the best pieces written entirely by freddie!!!

Better to do the studio first then the live
TheSlyNinja definitely. As long as he does the live one after.
@@83greent I mean, even though Queen sound better live 100% but yeh, definitely studio, then live
Their performance @ Milton Keynes was also amazing. I agree that the Montreal performance was the best but the audience was lame. 🙄
I'll check it out as soon as possible! I am excited.
Thanks for the reaction. As good as this is, live is unbelivable ...listen to Montreal 81.
Thank you! I'll definitely check it out 😊
