Ever listen to the old time radio series with William Conrad? Very addicting and difficult to stop listening to. Let your ears and mind set up the scene for you. Really awesome!
Been watching Gunsmoke on INSP network, never saw the ones from the 50s and 60s, like watching a brand new show in 2020....you see so many guest stars on the show that went on to be big stars of their own
Classic! Gunsmoke started as a radio show from 1952 to 1961. William Conrad (Cannon TV show also stared in Jake and the Fatman) was Matt Dillon. Doc was Howard McNear (Floyd the barber from the Andy Griffith show) and Chester was Parley Baer (The Mayor of Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show) and Georgia Ellis was Ms. Kitty. Anyway, I’ve been listening to the shows on podcast (they are probably on UA-cam also). Those shows are so good! I highly recommend taking a listen. William Conrad as Matt Dillon in the radio version was a TOUGH BASTARD! Lol. At stories were good enough to draw you in. Because it was radio they just had a way to tell the stories that’s just hard to describe. If you love the tv show and have seen them all, so yourself a favor and give the radio version a listen. You won’t be disappointed.
The radio episodes are in the public domain now and can be found. In my opinion the radio version is better. The listener had to pay attention. Every issue was not a simple matter of right and wrong. It was dumbed-down (a little) for television.
James Arness was such handsome man, and so talented, Gunsmoke is a favorite at our house, good clean entertainment, Amanda Blake-Miss Kitty, her and Marshall Dillons love story was awesome, and Festus, can’t help but love him!
Does anyone remember the western TV series 'Gun law'? James Arness was in it and it preceded 'Gun smoke'. It's intro was a series of handguns being fired close up. I believe Dennis Weaver was Chester also.

Character actor Jack Klugman was the partner of the bad guy Matt Dillon wiped the floor with. He was in many movies including as a juror in “Twelve Angry Men” and his own TV series “Quincy”.
That's cool I can relate, I guess you're fanner 50s was some type of (toy ) revolver my dad had Swinging Doors that went into his kitchen and I had a holster in a silver cap gun they looked real when we were kids
@Britspence My dad told me I used to watch the half hour Gunsmokes with him, but never remember any until the color ones in the mid 60's.....except one. I remembered the one Dillon accidently shot his friend and notched his gun. Strange, I only remembered that one. My all time favorite? "The Gallows" with Jeremy Slate. It was a b&w hour long one.
My mom had a huge crush on James Arness. Every week, when Gunsmoke would come on, we kids understood that we better not interrupt that show for any reason. So, we would sit down and watch it with her. My dad would be out in the garage doing dad stuff while my mom fantasized over Marshal Dillon.
Two points here - 1) comically speaking, some guys just don't know when to stay down! 2) In reality, anyone getting hit the way Dillon was hitting this low-life dude would never have been ABLE to get up that many times! But dontcha just love the old time TV fights! The same can be said for the fight scenes in Walker, Texas Ranger! I've seen Chuck Norris punch, kick, twist arms and head-butt guys repeatedly and these idiots continue to keep goin' at it! I laugh more watching those fight scenes than watching most comedians!
Yeah... not to mention one punch to the kisser with Dillon's 6'7" frame behind it and low-life would still be splayed out on the street while Dillon was up at Doc's having low-life's teeth removed from his knuckles... didn't much care for Dillon's reckless endangerment of his gun hand. When low-life pulled the knife Dillon should have motioned to Chester to toss him his Colt, marched over to low-life while pointing it directly between his mean eyes to put some god fear into them, then flipped that long barrel into his hand and used the butt hard on low-life's thick skull. Would not only have affirmed the supposed 'adult and realistic' nature of the show but provided a little style.
The half hour Gunsmoke where a gunman killed someone's brother in a draw of weapons was a sad one. The brother was no match for the gunman and Dillon wouldn't take the gunman on saying he wasn't an assassin. The other brother slapped the gunman who killed him when the brother was not carrying a gun. Dillon squared off with the gunman and killed him and found out the dying brother gave up his life for Dillion to extract revenge on his dead brother. Great and sad episode. Meston's great writing.
"WOW!!!!!"** 'Great Fight Scene!!!!!** Marshal Dillon Fist Blows Were Tormenting.** When Dillon Punched You, It Would Be Difficult For You To Get Up!!!!!** "Great Fight Scene!!!!!"**
This is great ! ! Seems like they cut a line of dialogue, though. I sort of remember the Jack Klugman character saying (just before he dragged the guy away), "I never thought anyone could ever beat Ben Siple".
2:10 i used to box, that right that matt threw is a pure knockout punch! No one gets up from that, Arness either knew how to throw a punch or some stuntman really taught him good.
@@muffs55mercury61 yes, they will cut out crucial scenes that destroy the continuity of the plot. It’s frustrating. If they had respect for classic TV they would just let the program go past the hour or half hour to get the complete show in.
When I was a little girl I had the biggest crush on Matt Dillon. I didn't.understand it but I was galued🐒 to that tv. Now I still have same crush but I get it. It's called "the HOTS"😌
In the "Glory and the Mud" an hour long B&W, the aging gunfighter almost blind let the guy fire so he could see his muzzle flash to know where to aim his gun. Dillon gave that explanation to Chester.
I am watching Gunsmoke right now on me tv. Gunsmoke was a radio serial before it was a TV show. The sheriff on Radio was William Conrad. The guy who went on to become Frank Cannon, private investigator. He was an Alpha male on the radio, with his deep baritone voice. When tv came around, Conrad needed to be replaced. Despite his macho voice, Conrad was short and chubby. James Arness was tall, dark, and handsome.

First time I was 9 years old and Kurt Russell was playing PACKY KERLIN. Runaway cowboy. Teen. He was age 13. James told my dad to have me report to casting and see about 'Blocking' & setting up scenes for Kurt. Looked like fun! I enjoyed meeting Festus (Ken Curtis and Miss Kitty but, they sure worked long, hard days. In the HEAT of the desert. Then the Horses we amazing but, the smells in the hot desert, well, you get my drift "THEY ALL EARNED THEIR MONEY". I latrer became semi pro tennis player in Italy and corporate manager for Best Foods Corp. (SKIPPY, MAYONNAISE. That was great!… nice knife defense...and leg trip...
I loved that show. As a kid, I used to draw against the TV with my Fanner 50's every time the show started.
That's cool I can relate, I guess you're fanner 50s was some type of (toy ) revolver my dad had Swinging Doors that went into his kitchen and I had a holster in a silver cap gun they looked real when we were kids
Do you know when I was four years old in the mid 50's, someone stole my Fanners 50's. Still hurts as to the loss.
@@jameshoran8 I'll bet it does! Don't like thieves.
@@jameshoran8 I'll have to check those two episodes out if I can find them. Thanks!
Great Western love James arness
Jeez Dillon, the lovely woman makes eyes at you and you walk away. Damn.
Matt comes back later that night!
Old Kitty was watching too close.
Marshallin' was his business, all business and nothing got in it's way.
Matt was my can of MAN love ❤️
My mom had a huge crush on James Arness. Every week, when Gunsmoke would come on, we kids understood that we better not interrupt that show for any reason. So, we would sit down and watch it with her. My dad would be out in the garage doing dad stuff while my mom fantasized over Marshal Dillon.
My mom didn't care where my dad was, she loved her some Marshall Dillon.
Is that why you resemble Dillion instead of your dad?
😆😆😆
The look that woman gave Dillon.
You gonna get some tonight!
Lol
They have given me the same look
@@mr.wizard2974 That you feel the need to say it makes that doubtful
And Tad.❤Gunsomke was and still one tMy ""BEST COWBOY'S SHOW'S EVER.❤✝️🙏🏼✝️🌹❤️
Ilove gunsmoke
Nobody beats Matt Dillon!
Mannon!
The best Gunsmoke episodes were the half hour black and white ones. The later hour long color episodes were nowhere near as good.
Gunsmoke in the early 60's was told to curb the violence.
By the late 60s Arness tends to show up only at the beginning and end of the episodes.the hour format was a good showcase for guest stars.
What a fight, I have never seen anything like it,, there hats came off and everything!
Absolutely brilliant Marshall Dillon could do with some of that to sort out the bullies that pick on vulnerable people especially women😡
"WOW!!!!!"**
'Great Fight Scene!!!!!**
Marshal Dillon Fist Blows Were Tormenting.** When Dillon Punched You, It Would Be Difficult For You To Get Up!!!!!**
"Great Fight Scene!!!!!"**
Go Matt Dillon! He sure showed that rascal a thing or two!
James Arness as Marshall Matt Dillon was approved by John Wayne!
That's RIGHT 👍 Matt! Beat him to a pulp!! Yippie Kai YAY
This is great ! ! Seems like they cut a line of dialogue, though. I sort of remember the Jack Klugman character saying (just before he dragged the guy away), "I never thought anyone could ever beat Ben Siple".
Rod Weaver
You are right! The partner said something like “I thought he could never be beat.”
Not a cut, scratch or swollen tissue, not even a red mark. The magic of TV.
2:10 i used to box, that right that matt threw is a pure knockout punch! No one gets up from that, Arness either knew how to throw a punch or some stuntman really taught him good.
It's a shame the early episodes on TV cut the ending credits to fit in another commercial.
I bought dvds so I don't have that problem now but I lived with that for years and it got old quickly. That and scenes cut out for commercials.
@@muffs55mercury61 yes, they will cut out crucial scenes that destroy the continuity of the plot. It’s frustrating. If they had respect for classic TV they would just let the program go past the hour or half hour to get the complete show in.
First you hear a shot, then you see and hear Marshall Dillion shoot. Proof that accuracy is MORE important than speed!
When I was 9 or 10 I
When I was a little girl I had the biggest crush on Matt Dillon. I didn't.understand it but I was galued🐒 to that tv. Now I still have same crush but I get it. It's called "the HOTS"😌
sometimes your opponent was faster on the draw but his bullet hit the dirt. He draw fast but didn't aim very well.
In the "Glory and the Mud" an hour long B&W, the aging gunfighter almost blind let the guy fire so he could see his muzzle flash to know where to aim his gun. Dillon gave that explanation to Chester.
Watch 'Lawman' with Burt Lancaster for a dessertation on what matters in a gun fight
Dependable ornery cuss John Anderson REAL young 🤓😎✌🏻
Lol but it's kinda funny hearing Marshal Dillon talk so high pitched before the fight! thx for the clip👍
Yeah didn't even sound like him
I am watching Gunsmoke right now on me tv.
Don't mess with Matt. He gave that coward a good Southern whooping
1:13 Hey........... Where did Abbey go?
She just disappeared from standing next to the wagon and then reappeared standing on the porch. How did she do that?
Just lovee some Marshall, gentle giant, who didn't take none, otay!!!
John Anderson was a great character actor.
RIP big James.
Good Video Clip! Yeah, The Outro Music Reminded Me Of 'Outlaws', The PC Game From The '90's.
It is from " play me the song of death" with Clint Eastwood. You the movie with this iconic 3 angles stand-off gunfight 🤔
Don't bring a knife to a Dillion fist fight.
And all of that with a bad knee.😏
Mr. James ARNESS Had a Horrific RT MANGLED FOOT AND ANKLE. Besides his OTHER injuries received while working on GUNSMOKE in his 20 year run he started his Career in Westerns in 1955 with a DISABLED RIGHT FOOT & ANKLE torn to pieces by NAZI GERMANY MACHINE GUN FIRE IN ANZIO, ITALY. Warzone up against NAZI GERMANY. My father was Hit in the same week in a different Battalion. They met while recovering from wounds which took over ONE YEAR. Fantastic Medical Staff. PT. Doctors. And years of help at VETERANS HOSPITAL IN WESTWOOD, CALIFORNIA. They would sometimes share driving and go out there together. Military buddies to the end....We never took advantage of this family friendship. Mr. Arness was gracious and did invite us ON SET but, only twice did we take him up on it. At age 9 and someone with NO PLANS of acting in life I had no love lost for this life. In fact, I grew up in Malibu, California on the beach and in Santa Monica so would SURF. Sometimes with James Arness SON. A world Class surfer and one of the best in the world. Wow! And few knew James Arness LOVED SURFING. I latrer became semi pro tennis player in Italy and corporate manager for Best Foods Corp. (SKIPPY, MAYONNAISE. Mazola, Thomas' Muffins). etc. After retirement, yes, part time returned to ACTING (AH, LIFE IS WEIRD) and was in 67 TV/Film productions. NCIS. Mike and Molly. Trailer, Featured with Al Pacino, DANNY COLLINS film. Jersey Boys. Modeling and more....VO. RIP Mr. Arness. at least you made it to age 88. My Dad was 61 on his 5th marriage in Las Vegas. We all get dealt different Cards in life and then PLAYING THEM is the tough part. Play smartly or make it hard on ourselves!
Probably used that arm grab and twisted behind the back from being n the Army...😉
Wow don't mess with Matt.
beautiful fight
Filmaço!!! Show de seriado!!
Anybody else recognize Jack Klugman?
listen to closing music... its the earliest
Completely awesome
