I like the video. The difference in speed between the Xi3 and Newport is more than I would have hoped. It makes me less inclined to go with a bow mount. The spot lock seems awesome though.
Fully rigged! I'd say at a minimum. Definitely a crazy set up & looks really nice, you have done a good job with everything! To each their own #1. That's a little to much for me. I've been kayak fishing from Hobie PA12'S for past 9+ yrs now. Have had PA12 - 360 just about 2 years. I love the 360 drive!!! Don't run any motors but I do have a echomap Ultra106SV, with a steady cast heading sensor & Lvs34 system. Powered by a single Amped Outdoors 32ah 14.8v lithium battery. Will run everything about 12-15 hours. The LS ducer is on a Fishing Specialties kayak bow ducer pole with their custom transducer mount. Much better than Garmin mount. Let's you adjust angles infinity! Besides those electronics I keep my rig as simple & light as possible. I can launch in less than 5 minutes. I hail my kayak in bed of my truck. So all parking at big lakes is Free because I don't have a trailer. Alot people don't realize you only have to pay to park if you have a trailer. Curious to see how need motor does & which is better that or the bow mount motor
I can feel your pain Karl. I have had several fish to be disqualified. Unfortunately it happens don't let it get you down just keep pushing forward. I had one disqualified because I had his belly turned away from me didn't realize that made a difference. Good luck to you and your tournaments.
Cool weather of fall does sound nice but I welcome the heat because it keeps so many people off the water! This summer I've done excellent, in dead heat of the day in super shallow water offshore. I've been catching some big girls! Between mide June & late August I've caught all these including my new PB 9lb 3 oz, 26 inches long & 16.75 inches in girth. Then a 8.6 - 8.05 - 7.4 - 6.1 - 5.10 - 5.8, two others just above 5 & multiple above 4lbs. An interesting fact is all of them were caught with my sonar off. I was just fishing waypoints. They were very shallow, if I had my sonar on I wouldn't get a bite from anything decent sized. When my sonar all off & not pinging I caught all of those! So something to keep in mind for supper shallow water. something to keep in mind for shallow water , is I believe that pinging was turning the fish off or putting them on alert!??!
I have the Riptide Terrova 55lb on a BSB 360 Pro and bought an NK180s just before they announced the NK300. If I would have just waited a little longer I would have purchased the 300. I haven’t even taken the 180 out of the box but after buying a $900 24V Lifepo4 for it I can’t justify getting the 300 and spending another $1,200 on a 36V battery. If the 300 used the 24V battery I’d get it in a hot second especially since I bring my wife and daughter fishing with me on the BSB 360. Yeah it’s pushing the limits but it’s more fun with them. Thanks for showing us how both motors work with your setup.
I have a Hobie PA 14 360 w/ the smaller 180 elec. motor. I have everything (basically) you have. So it’s heavy. I run 4.8 mph with my setup w/ the 360 peddle system in. One thing I would suggest that you get (I have it) is Innovative Sportsman make prop guard that is cheap and give tremendous prop protection and installs in minutes. I have foot control, but it doesn’t control the ruder, that’s a separate standard control. I really like the speed you are getting with the bigger elec. motor. I was injured in Vietnam. Fused at 5 levels lower back. This makes me unsteady to stand so I got a standup support bar (customized it) lowering it. Then thru TH Marine got the portable/adjustable (very light)out riggers. They aren’t in the way and when I’m running distance they adjust up out of water, but fishing running slow working the bank I have them down. They are small, quite and stable as hell. I’m old 76 yrs worth. I had to stop running my bass boat due to pounding on my back as I got older. Yaks are life savers. I wish I had your mechanical experience. Have additional Rod holders all around my black box plus Hobie’s H rail 3 rod holders that gets my working rods out of the way, easily accessible. I found the 6 rod tube when rods are in them, are in the way with foot controls installed. The addition of 6 mm custom pads is really a sound and standing cushionier. I have mounted h-rail horizontal and my Garmin FF is mounted there. I wish I had Spot Lock, but I game the 3 section (YakAttack) push pole and mounting rack with hole lock. Interesting just how much $$$ you can spend on a YAK ! Hope to see you out on the water.
Bro, that is a machine. I knew you'd get those speeds, and you're fully rigged. I also knew it'd, lift the bow off the water. 6 to 7 mph, on a kayak is very fast. They've earned their reputation, with that motor. It's actually the same price as my new Bixpy PP -768 I purchased this year. Another great addition to the boat..💯 🛶 🎣
6+mph on that rig is crazy! You can see how loaded it is with how low it sits. I bet I could get well over 7mph in my PA, since I don’t have a 1/4 the weight on mine. Very impressive!
Can you do an update on where you’re gonna move the battery so you don’t get water over the bow maybe show us what kind of batteries in your set up for the motors
Hi TJ, I just wanted to let You know how much I appreciate & enjoy all of your videos & awesome information on DIY projects. The Bow hunting videos would also be appreciated. I’m 64 & getting ready to upgrade to a PA-14 & do almost the exact same setup but will be fishing for Specks , Redfish & Flounder here in Virginia. I was wondering if the NV-300 would be good for saltwater? Thanks for all You Do & keep up the Great Work, Tight Lines & Stay Safe 🙏🙏🙏
Hey TJ. So, my guess is that you stashed the XI3 battery in the front hatch. Is that correct? Can you show us what that looks like? I'm looking at doing something similar to my PA14.
Your set-up is insane! I've followed so many of your videos w my own installs. (Portable power, Battery Box, Etc.) If I had any thoughts I would only say that maybe move the battery or some weight more aft and midline as your bow looks a little heavy. Now when is it going to be for sale? LOL
Kayak USA I rewatched. I'm old and hearing is bad. What were the final Max MPH for each motor individually. Thanks Appreciate you doing this.Xi3 Max = NK300 = Would be a big help. Thank you Sir.
No GPS on the nk300 so it's not even a close comparison. Plus it's only a transom mount. It's not an option for many people including me. I require a spot lock feature and a transom mount motor is useless for me.
Great video I just bought the xi3 I’ve bin watching some of your other vids and have learned allot I was just wondering do you run your GoPro on external battery
So dumb question...could you get by with the NK300 as your Trolling motor?? Or is it too much power/noise around docks? I do see the value in the spotlock🐟 TIA
At the end of this video, where is the Newport battery located? Inside the backpack? I ask because I'm trying to figure out where to place mine for best performance when my NK300 comes in for my NuCanoe Unlimited which will not have the Xi on the bow.
Looking forward to viewing it. Your videos are so well done and your work and reasoning so well explained. BTW, hope your audience showed enough interest in the bowhunting for you to add some of this.@@KayakUSA1
they good but the nt300 is only 43% efficiancy hence it only uses 37amps at max.. a real 80lb thrust motor has 85-90% efficancy and max speed uses 60amps.. so if you think the nt300 is fast then try a real 80lb thrust motor.. you be going 12-13mph on max
