Matt's story really sounds like a guy that fabricated a bunch of fake credit cards and had Matt unwittingly test the numbers to see if they would go through and then the guy could go along after to all these places with copies of those cards and buy ANYTHING and know it would clear and he could skate...meanwhile if one failed bad enough to get security or the cops to drop on Matt he'd be left holding the bag while suddenly this guy's cell phone is no longer picking up. Tooootally sounds like he accidentally helped a guy commit credit card fraud
Thinking about it further, I've had my credit card number stolen twice years ago and both times there would be a *ton* of these piddly little purchases all over town before buying some really expensive shit and I was always like 'this guy stole my credit card to run errands?!?' but it was probably people like Matt 'testing' the card without realizing it

just wanted to say this podcast is so comforting to have as a freshman in college who’s learning to adjust to being away from home 🖤 I listened to this episode on my way to my classes all day today and it eased my anxieties so thanks guys appreciate y’all sm
I had an interview with cold stone when I was 15 too and it was WILD. They asked me if I were to host a party, how many people would I invite, if I was babysitting and the child was misbehaving, what would I do, etc. like HUH what does that have to do with serving ice cream?? And then they gave us music sheets and we had to SING. Basically what Mike was explaining. It was the weirdest thing. Didn’t get the job either 😂
Thank you so much for speaking up for us teachers!! Its true, middle schoolers are unhinged. Some of the worst things ive ever heard a person say about other people has came from children, not adults. I see them way more than I do my own family. I love my job but MY GOD it is exhausting.....😅
I ALMOST FELL FOR THE KNIFE COMPANY 🤯 I thought that was just in my area in Northwest Arkansas - I was only in high school. My mom caught it when I was describing it and was like yeahhhh you’re not applying for that and then my parents gave me an MLM lesson 🤣
omg the painting thing that Mike did still goes on. the same thing happened to me. they presented in class and everything it's called college paint works
Mike real estate is difficult 😭 you have to do ALOT of paperwork and you have to usually work the phones some days at the offices. Also right now it’s awful to be an agent. No one can sell houses it’s so competitive.
I laughed out loud at the girl who is a preschool teacher. I taught three year olds for 9 years and those statements are so true hahaha. I'm now a special education aide at a school district. Teaching is hard, but when a student finally gets something it's all worth it! Yes teacher's need to get paid more!
I definitely got roped into the house painting MLM in uni. My boss was like the same age as me (im assuming he had the position Mike would've had), and didn't know what he was doing. It was so awful, we also did interior painting but our boss never gave us the right supplies so I'd be stuck in the house having painted the walls the wrong colour. A nightmare
Selling real estate is very hard a job. This is for Mike they do not have people working and during your palaver work. Erin just ask Auntie Diane, she had to take a test to pass to become a broker. Lots of math involved.🤪
At my favorite restaurant in my hometown in Mexico, the waited took our orders the first time and the next time we went he knew EXACTLY what we were about to order. He memorized it after our first time going! Impressive for sure lol
carly just reminded me that i had a tonsil stone building up so i stopped the podcast like 2 minutes in to remove it (also they are CAUSED by food getting stuck in the tonsil crevices but aren't the food themselves, just calcified buildup and they look like yellowish white stones)
I interviewed at a clothing store when I was 16. They had me put together outfits for different occasions and events. SO ANXIETY-INDUCING. I never got a call back and I think about it all the time
As soon as you started talking about the envelopes I thought of Seinfeld. And I had the same thought at one job in the early 2000s when I had a whole box of invitations to pack 🤣
Being a mail carrier is harder than you might think. It requires a lot of lifting heavy mail trays, bending, standing in place for quite a while to sort your mail, and for city carriers a lot of walking. It was pretty decent pay when I did it but tough on your body.
I was on a work zoom call (50+) people and someone accidentally turned on their camera. You could see she was walking around with her phone and she walked into the bathroom, propped her phone up, and got into the shower. It took a solid 2 minutes before the presenter realized someone was showering on camera and she closed the entire presentation. Just mid sentence stopped talking, froze, and the whole zoom closed out.
My favorite thing about my jobs in retail was the weird stuff that would happen. People were always over sharing, and doing weird things. One guy came in and asked me for a candle to get the demons out of his house lol.
OMG my boyfriend and I just talked about this painting job, I had no idea they were so common! We are in Vancouver and Kelowna in BC Canada and they come around to the lecture halls and hand around a sign up sheet. They are now banned from the university. ALSO just recently had an interview for a different but similar marketing pyramid scheme where within a year they will "open your own office anywhere you want in North America! Miami, Montreal, Mexico!" like what on earth, I am 23 years old and you trust me to do that after a year? So many red flags lol

i currently work at target (been working for abt two months now) and omg i wish im working at the locations carly and mike worked at. at first, i loved working at target but that lasted a week or two. im tiny but they got me pulling heavy ass pallets of food on shipment days. guest first (which is working the cashier register) sucks. asset protection (ap), literally don’t what they really do. the thing about the red shirts is true- any type of red and you can wear graphic t-shirts (that are appropriate ofc) but now you can wear blue jeans as long as they’re not intentionally ripped. the interview process was through a website bc of covid protocols but idk if thats for all locations. i would have rather been at an in-person interview than deal with recording my answers because i was nervous as hell. overall- i personally do not like working at target but they pay well. they do take advantage of your availability and the amount of labor my co-workers and i go through… lets just say we all get work outs during every shift (unless you’re in style bc yall just fold clothes and deal with the hellhole that is the dressing rooms).
I am not sure if this happens in the USA or other countries but on my brief time working for McDonald's in Perú, they taught was to always say "OK THANK YOU", when we were communicating with each other, so we will confirm that we got the information.
