Ted Greene - Solo Guitar - Autumn Leaves
Вставка

- Ted plays Autumn Leaves at the Guitar Institute June 1993. The amazing thing is that this is a improvisation from a student request to contrast both Jazz style and the style of Bach over a chord progression...simply amazing..for more / tedgreenearchives
sounds like Bach playing a telecaster playing autumn leaves. beautiful.
Exactly, he play 3th major instead minor
yes!!!!
@@itsadvm really
I Agree! Bach plays Telecaster!!
Spot on 👌
I always enjoy Ted's reaction from the audience at the end of a song. He betrays a certain sense of shyness or humility, not quite sure which and not sure it even matters. I've always felt that Ted never realized what a talented guitarist he truly is, which makes him that much more attractive. Rest in peace Ted, we love you...
1954tele probably the best comment for this video (y)
his reaction is soooo cute!!! shows humility and gratitude i think. Very cute
For the musicians, the whole thing is transcribed here: www.soundslice.com/slices/n1kcc/
From what I've read about him, he had a magnificent obsession. He knew what he wanted to hear and was never quite satisfied with what he produced. He loved it when other people liked what he did.
I'm always humbled by musicians who can play at this level and then proclaim to be students of their instrument and music. Its a demonstration of transcendental understanding - the pinnacle of human achievement.
This man changed my life, and we've never met. He can create the most astonishingly beautiful and complex harmonies. I have never seen anyone like him. His two great books, Chord Chemistry and Modern Chord Progressions are whole-life learning experiences for any player who wants to uncover what this instrument can really do.
Whenever I find myself depressed or dysphoric I can watch this and feel free from the pain of this existence
Same
Ted's music is like a sedative for a 35 year old guy like me. It'like his chord inversions and harnonics and style, are telling me that everything is still ok. Rest in peace Ted!
this is some of the best guitar playing i've ever seen.
Ted is maybe the greatest guitar player of the 20th century. Pure genius. He's a miracle. His playing always moves me to tears.
His sense of harmony, passing chords, Lenny Breau-style harmonics, voice leading, classical music and Music in general is beyond encyclopedic. Just mind blowing no matter how many times I hear this great Master play!!
Agree whole heartedly!
I like when Ted says, "You're not the only one feeling this" as he doesn't assume his superiority and treats everyone equally.....I love this guy....what a gentle soul!
I still can't watch him without crying, I miss his spirit and gifts terribly - surely unmatched!!!!
It's so beautiful it hurts
I should like to add that the transition into the Bach style gives me chills everytime I hear it.
this just actually made me cry
Every now and then this video jumps out at me in my favorites list. It's just so incredible. I'm no jazzer, you know, but this makes me wish I were.
I still have my original Ted Green LP, the only one, but that’s all I need, I am still learning from it forty five years later. Thank you Mr. Green R.I.P. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🎼🎶🎵🎸🎵🎶🎼
Ted Greene - Guitar Astrophysics
"you know like you'll be trying to get somewhere..." "yet you don't wanna stop playing...so you keep going and pretty soon you're into something else..." " "you know that you still haven't lost sight of where you originally wanted to go...but damn if you're not going to get there though...you know.. you just ...not in a few minutes anyway."
music as metaphor for life
Ted, transparent to the transcendant :)
Truly one of THE GREAT unknowns.
This amazing music transcends space and time by incorporating 17th century polyphony, twentieth century jazz and whole lot of Ted Greene. He represented an America that was much more united, gentle and cool. His music lives on. (Check out Tim Lerch!)
This is basically the only vestige of US culture left that is worthy of respect
@@mattiasorre1718Music is still a healing force. People like us who dig Ted Greene can find solace in his music. Stay safe.
@@mattiasorre1718jesus, I fear that not even Ted Greene would agree with such a negative reactionary view of the world around you.
@@AABatteries321 You're right, African influence on music in the US probably always was the only worthy cultural contribution
Yeah, I'm revisiting Chord Chemistry myself. Two pages of that thing will keep you busy for weeks! Had his CD but didn't know there was video of him. What a magnificent player.
WOW... that's a beautiful tone. Never heard a tele sound like that. Ted is amazing!
teles have probably the best clean tone in the business, jazz blues and country players have known this forever
I'm so glad you posted this..... Ted's playing is sublime here, man, brings tears to my eyes, its sooooo beautiful, I'll be watching this over and over!
I really cannot describe in words how insanely beautiful anda genius is this. its transcedental...
takes ur breath away..everytime
Simply astounding, harmonic genious, to glimpse eternity is to search for infinite.
I'm floored.
That's all I can say... this defies any other description.
i love people who play with really good classical fingerpicking technique. it just looks like they are floating and the notes are magically coming out.
autumn leaves to bach... must be one of the best videos on youtube ever...
i got a cd with ted green from a friend, he play standards(dont know the name on record). my kid at the time was about 8 years old, he and hes friends always put the cd on when having fun and runing around in the room, its strange feeling to observ, everytime cd end, they put it on again. i think ted greens music and way of playing it, will fallow me rest of my life, with a smile

Modern Chord Progressions and Chord Chemistry: a few years' work in each...great books by an absolutely incredible guitar player. Thanks so much for this video.
Wow-I'm astounded-the transition to Baroque and back to swing was unreal! I'm sorry he's gone.
this a beautiful melting pot of the all the good in music thanks, peace, Ted
One of my life's great pleasures, listening to Ted make beauty magically manifest on a guitar.
incredibly beautiful
Agreed. No doubt about that one. RIP Ted! God bless your soul.
Jesus, this guy is incredible. The way he reacted to the audience - so humble, like he doesn't know he's a genius....... RIP. The most musical of guitar players.
I believe that he also had book out called "Quadrophonic Fingering-Ted Greene"
Over the years I've puchased several copies of the album Ted Greene Solo Guitar on vinyl only to have them borrowed and never returned. I ordered the CD recently...thank goodness it was available. I listen to it all the time for inspiration. R.I.P. Ted see you on the other side.
So lucky to have some of his hand written lessons from back when he taught. He was a freakin Genius!
You gotta post!!! Share his gifts!!
Pls share 🤩
There is a whole website dedicated to his works over the years run by the likes of Tim Lerch and someone else. It's called TedGreene.com
I know it's a guitar clinic, and nearly 30 years ago, and it's just a video on YT. But I cried anyway.
This is pure improvisation, from traditional jazz to the art of fugue, all with a feel and sound of a cathedral.
Thank you so much for this video.
True beauty here...Anyone who knows music on any level will recognize the genius in this. And it was mostly improvised...
The world'll never experience a musician like this anymore. Rest in peace Ted, your poetry will live forever
Well said 🙂
This man was an amazing guitarist whose music will live for as long as time last!
that time of year again Ted there's only one player like you
Never heard of this man before. Very glad to of come across him. Musicality all day long.
Wow...that is a bit magic happening there...something that lifts the heart of every living soul in that room. Luckily we got it on tape...brilliant sound out of that telecaster!
Ted Greene-what an incredible genius. His name should be a household word. He was also a lovely person.
Behold, the great Master.
That tone is just pure gold.
Brilliant, got here due to seeing Guthrie's top 10 influences. Been playing for 30 years now and I'm thrilled to have found new people to listen to.
This is a master who devours music the way of our daily breathe, Beautiful
So great ! You could hear a pin drop, his musicality and tone Hypnotized the audience. R.I.P. Ted . Thanks for the inspiration !!!
Without a single word, poetry. . . . . . . . .
I don't believe Ted wanted to go big or he would have. He realized that in order to keep it you have to give it away and he helped SOOOO many guitarists ..so in someways he went real big!
I think he loved to learn.. he devoured the guitar all his life. But to become popular you have sacrifice some of that and be on the road all the time, and end up doing a lot of things that are unrelated to the music itself. Becoming widely known is a science of its own which is disconnected from music. So, Ted loved guitar more than fame.
That's deep. Like a spiritual master than knows they have it and want others to exist in that plane of existence.
this is silly amazing
What a great talent. Remarkable to heart that kind of tone out of a Tele. But as they say, it's all in the hands.
Thank You Ted Greene
Can you believe so much beauty in this song?Never heard this one better I believe.
His chords, variations and solutions are from another planet, he 's right up there with Lenny in another stratosphere.
This is magic. Damn...
Beautiful
Legend
Fabulous!! Can you believe this??!!!
That was so musical. Everything he did was so deeply musical.
ted had just played an example of autumn leaves and somebody asked him if he could play using the same ideas in a different key, he said "i'll give it a go"
I had the honor of being in one of his guitar workshops....God bless his soul...
stunning.absolutely
breathtakingly beautiful...
simply beautiful.
How *sweet* is that sound..
A master of the fretboard playing right from the heart. Astounding!! Such a moving and beautiful performance.
Ted Greene was a brilliant musician and a tremendously insightful and gifted teacher.
still have his Vol. 1 book- 1991..........and how time flies from our fingers..........
First time hearing Ted Greene, one of the greats I'll assume. Some interpretations really speak to me and this is one of them.
praise be, one of the great kings
Great! This is a fresh Sound for Autumn Leaves!
Thank you Mr. Greene...
Jaw-dropping technique and feeling!
I will remember you always as my mentor and idol. We miss you Ted.
when i was a s tudent i GIT i when to his clinic for 3 times I talked to him all the times, man. He is amazing human being and greatest teacher and player. My friend took lesson with him. He charted only 20 dollars for an hour lesson, man. I know you in heaven now Mr. Green.
absolutely amazing!!
His playing is so beautiful.
No words for it!
Wonderful ! I'm speechless!
Wow - amazing improv. BTW - I just picked up Ted's Book "Modern Chord Progressions - Jazz and Classical voicings for Guitar". I thought I knew a lot of chords until I started reading this book. It is packed with beautiful voice leadings for standard chord progressions. Probably the best $15 I ever spent on guitar instruction. Ted - we miss you.
raw.
love.
LOVE THE TONE!
Subtle and delicate.
Would have loved to hear him play with someone like Bill Frisell.
You know what, I've watched this a thousand times and I've watched (I think) every video of Ted there is on UA-cam. This is by far one of my favourite videos of Ted playing because, at first, it seems like he's having an off-day. He keeps claming up and missing notes and he seems generally nervous during the first minute or so, almost like he can't get seem to translate what he's hearing in his head onto the fretboard too well...so what does he do? Start again? Stop playing? Car-crash the tune? Any other guitarist would certainly opt for these, but no. He simply prevails. He keeps playing. He changes pace, slowly loosens up and transforms Autumn Leaves into an improvised, swirling Bach inspired masterpiece. It's truly incredible and inspiring. Ted is eternal.
Though I never met him, I feel as though he has been one of my greatest teachers
thank you thank you thank you ted.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Magistral
I've still gotta learn that book!!!
Ted Greene is a master musician.
chord chemistry is a masterpiece
