    Thank you so much for this. So helpful! I had been making them more like plates - with a very wide foot which left a beginner’s hump and wasted a huge amount of clay.

      You are welcome. Unfortunately that one suffered a very bad crack from drying just a bit too quickly. My IG account has more images of completed work, I always forget about my UA-cam channel.

      @@ashleycrackpotmorrow After I commented I saw the posting date! I have been away from throwing due to some health issues. Your video really inspired me to get back to the wheel. Thanks again!

    You make this look so easy. I’m a beginner and I can barely center my clay lol.

    • @ashleycrackpotmorrow
      @ashleycrackpotmorrow  4 роки тому +2

      Tia Marie This craft takes patience. I have had 20+ years of experience pushing clay around. You will get better, trust me. It is just about the amount of clay you push through your fingers. Practice as much as you are able and you will see improvement. Even our “failures” are important. In fact, pottery is best learned through failure.

      ashleycrackpotmorrow Since starting my throwing class I have improved a TON. I realized that the clay I was using was way too hard for me, since my forearms aren’t accustomed to the type of movements you make when throwing clay. Super soft clay has allowed me to have more wins than losses! Thanks for the encouraging words!:)

    hi, stupid question, im a newbie potter and want to ask when youve coned up, why do you bend the top over before compressing the clay back down. Ive not 'played with that much clay at any point yet, so wanted to know do you do it every time or just when handling large amounts of clay. thanks for sharing, love the bowl.

    • @ashleycrackpotmorrow
      @ashleycrackpotmorrow  10 місяців тому +1

      Sorry for not responding sooner! I tend to come and go on this platform. To belatedly answer your question, I always push forward at the too of the cone (appears to look like a bend). This action is what makes the cone/mound become wider and shorter as you push forward. It should not take much force and when it works, you will feel it. Also keep your speed at top speed all the way to the end of the centering process.

      Flipped over in a bat that is large enough to span the diameter, or if that does not work, find a bat that is the same diameter as the bottom and then raise that up so the rim is not in the way of the wheel. I use a xiem batmate to stick the bat to the wheel.

      Jill Kaplan I’m not entirely sure, it was a while ago. But, my best guess is about 10-12 lbs

    YAHUAH is the potter and His servants are the clay. He shapens and moldens his servants into His Holy Image. We all give account on Judgment day.

    A voice over explaining why you do each thing would be a MILLION times better than that machinery noise in the background.

      On one hand, I’d like to hear commentary, too. I’m sure she has a lot to offer. However, I think to be able to throw something of this size, you need a basic understanding of all the things she is doing. Therefore, one could mostly tell by watching.
