      jeff, when using light/medium mechs try to limit your weaps grouping to two buttons. for the commando for example, just use button 1 for all SRMs and button 2 for the Med Laser. ;)

      @JeffGarvin be careful with heat though. You stripped a heat sink off. I'd bring it back and remove the extra armor you placed.
      Or maybe keep it but set your SRMs to chain fire.
      Personally, i wont but its your call.
      In an enagement, you and scott (locust) focus on turrets and turtles. Occassionally shoot a mech in the back or its weak spot of you get a chance.
      Once you get the mechs isolated then its time to gang up on it and help dan and the AI bring it down.

    At some point, the developer reworked how different mission types are generated, but for reasons of backward compatibility, they kept the old versions around. So scorched earth is demolition, garrison duty is defense, objective raid is raid, battlefield is warzone, and targeted kill is assassination. All *essentially* the same, but "improved" in various little ways.

    Great start :-) id avise to start slow and avoid assassination missions until you have a couple of mediums or can claim the target mech with salavge :-) ive heard you have all the dlc :-) thats great but the rashallege repubic missons are beasts.. try to make sure you have the king crab car and a couple of stalkers when you start it. You'll thank me later when you have the muscle to kill quick as those missons are savage and have artillery evwrywhere

    • @nogamesforoldmen

      Why avoid assassination missions at this point? Because it takes us too long to drop enemy 'Mechs?

    • @lukedudley5030
      @lukedudley5030 7 місяців тому

      @nogamesforoldmen you pay out more than you gain as they are so much bigger than you and damage you more than you'll earn...that's why it's best to avoid assassination missons early...once you have 2 mediums its fine as you can dish out the damage enough to make a profit.

    • @lukedudley5030
      @lukedudley5030 7 місяців тому

      @nogamesforoldmen the cost is often higher than the payout....your little mechs will be killed more often than not by the medium mechs you face and thus its not cost effective...unless you can claim the medium that killed you or have a couple of mediums to kill the target without too much damage

    points in to money only gives a little more money per point. points into Salvage = more money IF you remember to sell the salvage.
    if in light /fast mechs learn to run slower than full speed when shooting, Laser are a beam duration weapon You need too keep the laser beam on the target all its beam duration so Do Not run so fast so you wave laser all over the place.
    if possible on light mechs remove the large laser (5tons) and swap for 3 med laser, 1 heatsink and more armor.
    and remember to use the SRMs they really hurt... this also means don't run into range of SRM tanks or mechs that have them!.
    Always kill tanks/heli first they are fast too kill so less enemy weapons are shooting doing damage too You

    Having watched last season, I know you are in no way new to the game. That said, I do feel like there a few notes about the new DLC that should come to mind as you begin your new career in DLC-land:
    1. There is a quick way early in the game to get a ton of money. As soon as the Rival Mercenary areas show up, start looking at jobs in those areas. Doing so, you will find certain missions that pay a LOT more than normal. Like, up to twice as much as normal. These missions will run as normal, but with one difference: sometime during the mission, the rival mercs will drop a lance of mechs to fight you... either at the very beginning of the mission or at the very end. These are generally leveled to the level of the mission, so as long as you have a decent team of mediums or higher, this shouldn't make the mission that much more difficult. The monetary rewards, however, are worth it by themselves. But you also get bounty hunter experience from them, and the BH levels have some great rewards all on their own. Also, at the highest difficulties, doing these fights with the Wolf Dragoons gives you a slight chance at salvaging Annihilator and Marauder II battlemechs. (The Wolf Dragoons have a chance to field both of these in max level difficulty missions, though only a small chance.)
    2. Not sure if it will work the same way for you, but the three main DLC storylines served as a good difficulty tier measurement for me. Legend of the Kestrel Lancers should serve as a good "you should have at least a lance of solid, lower-end heavy mechs" checkpoint (gaining a couple of assault mechs throughout the DLC), Rise of Rasalhague should be "you have a solid lance of higher-end heavies and lower-end assaults, with a couple extras just in case" and by the end of the Dragon's Gambit you should have a full lance or two of completely tricked out assault mechs. (Helped out by the fact that each Dragon's Gambit mission has a salvage crate hidden somewhere on the map with Tier 5 weapons and/or lost tech equipment.)
    3. Remember, each mission in a DLC questline or regular multi-mission has a mission time. Make sure to check that. Even if the next mission in sequence starts immediately and you don't have time to fix your mech, as long as the mech repair takes less time than the mission, you can repair it and have the mech ready to go by the NEXT mission. Just remember that when you go to take a multi-mission, the time listed is for the entire series: if it is a 4-mission multi-mission and the duration time says 48 days, each mission has a length of 12 days.
    4. In my experience, although the Longbow sounds cool, what with being a mix between a catapult and an assault mech, its hitbox is ridiculous. As a rule of thumb, any time you bring it to a mission, expect to lose at the very least one of the arms, possibly both. As far as mechs added by the Dragon's Gambit DLC, it kinda falls short.
    5. Likewise, the Dragon's Gambit added Otomo variants of existing mechs are generally really good. If you like the Hatamoto-Chi, Mauler, PPC Variant Catapult, Battlemaster or the decent version of the Charger, you should enjoy them as well. You'll get them as quest rewards for finishing the Dragon's Gambit quest missions. There's also the Otomo Grand Dragon, which you only get by buying it during the missions. It's... okay.
    Either way, I am super hyped about this new season. Definitely looking forward to seeing what happens as we go. Good Luck and Have Fun.

    You might get away with only 1 ton of SRM ammo in the Commando. That gives you 32 shots, and most low level missions dont last that long. That would give you back a heat sink. Also, put heat sinks in your legs with the ammo. On critical hits, it may hit your hs, and not the ammo.

    Yesterday I watched enough of your original series to decide to buy it. It's downloading now. I had to get it on PS5 cos I don't think my PC could run it very well.
    The original series of yours is great fun and I'll be going back to it again. In the meantime, am I right in thinking this new series doesn't follow the campaign at all? This is just you 3 running your own business in an open Universe type free-play kind of deal?

    • @nogamesforoldmen
      @nogamesforoldmen  7 місяців тому

      I hope you enjoy playing the game! All three of us are using mouse/keyboard. How does the game feel using a PS5 controller?
      New Career does begin with a giant wall of text from a guy named Col. Richard Markson telling you he knew your father, offers condolences, and tells you he can help get you on your feet again but first you have to improve your Reputation rating. We don't know anything beyond that yet. Similar beginning to the story campaign, but as you suggested, New Career seems to be more of a sandbox. The DLC stories begin in specific years and have a limited window for completion, all of which we had already surpassed in our first series, thus the new series focusing on DLC when those stories become available.

      @@nogamesforoldmen Yeah, it's fun. The game really doesn't explain anything though, so I'm glad I watched some of your series first. There're still some weird things happening that don't make sense to me. I'm going to find a guide and just look up the confusing bits. For example: the game wouldn't let me start a mission and gave no reason. I swapped my Centurion for a Cicada I had an AI piloting and suddenly I could start the mission. I must have missed something about pilot limitations on which mechs they can use, but I'm gonna need a guide. It's beyond me and I just wanted to play.
      I think it would be easier to control the mech with mouse and keyboard. I assume WASD to move the mech legs and mouse to move torso? Controller uses the left and right sticks to control each part respectively. I had to switch to fps control method but I'll go back to the default seperate sticks when I have most of the other controls locked into my brain. There's too much to think about while I'm still figuring out how to control my AI pilots and which weapons are best for which tasks. It's good fun but I think it will be better when I can use the two sticks control scheme properly. It feels a little too much like an fps game for now.
