RUSTY: The Story of Rusty Wallace
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 гру 2022
- To many Rusty Wallace is an icon of NASCAR, from his 1989 NASCAR Cup Series Champion to his dominance on short tracks. Rusty Wallace's resume of accomplishments rivals many. On paper Wallace's career seems somewhat straight forward, but the amount hardship and challenges faced, would have put most out early.

As a Kulwicki fan, seeing Rusty turn those Polish victory laps even 10+ years later.....still meant something.
Alan was a wonderful man.
Agreed. I was shocked when I realized I had tears in my eyes all these years later. What an era. I miss those days and those drivers a lot.
27:08 - 27:16 - i DID NOT KNOW that PENSKE BOUGHT OUT RAYMOND BEETLE i though that beetle just folded because rusty signed with Penske….
As a fan in the 90s, I was soured by rusty and his mouth and his temper but as I get older, I respect rusty for his dedication and loyalty to his friends in the sport. A selfless and generous man
@@runbmc35 A lot of fans from the 80s said the same thing. Yeah, Rusty had a temper, but he was a competitor and was a relatively clean driver for the most part. By all accounts, great guy away from the track.
that #2 Genuine Draft car was a sweet ride
Rusty spoke 100% facts at the beginning of this video
NASCAR at that time which was in the early 90's different time then from the 60's and 70's needed better safety equipment
Unfortunately it took far too many deaths for nascar to implement change
Please do more of these stories with drivers like Dale Jarrett & Ricky Rudd
Forsure both of those drivers.
ROOSTER: The Story of Ricky Rudd
Mark martin too

Good video, but some inaccuracies.
-Rusty won Bristol in 1989.
-Kenny and Dale were congratulating Rusty at the Winston in 1989.
-Rusty and Penske really didn’t start talking again until near the end of 1990.
-Midnight was named after Rusty won at Richmond in 1992, not 1993.
-Rusty and Newman butted heads because the 12 team wouldn’t share info and because they had different personalities.
Last part of your comment is wrong. Rusty didnt want a teammate by time he accepted it it was to late. His an Newman relationship was bad bc Rusty didnt want a teammate. Rusty an Dale was pissed because they was getting a teammate.
@@tim37471 im sure Newman gettin the 12 over Mike Wallace(who almost won Phoenix in 2001 after taking over for Mayfield) probably didnt help matters either. originally the plan was to expand to 3 cars in 2002, but Jeremy got fired, and the expansion was delayed til 2004 when they bought the 77 team from Jasper. But the 12 car had been around since 98 so he was already used to having a teammate whether he liked it or not. Borland and Newman were doing things differently than Rusty and Robin had, then Robin left, and Newman outran him. plus the 21yr age difference. They didnt get along, their teams didnt get along. But he'd already had a teammate for years so that wasnt it.
@@grungyflannel go listen to Rusty's interview. He's old school. Old school dont like partners bc you gotta share info. He didnt want to share nothing. So Newman didnt share nothing when he was on a hot streak. Rusty even said only reason he didnt like Newman was because he didnt want a teammate an thought he was gonna take his Job. He even said he regrets it but when you been in nascar since the 80s with no teammate you dont want a teammate. It took Dale Earnhardt years to share his info with his teammate bc he didnt want a teammate neither. If you listen to Rustys interview he said him an Dale talked for days about a teammate an they didnt want it to happen.
That MGD Paint Scheme was to me the most iconic car next to Dale Earnhardt’s#3. The Earnhardt/Wallace rivalry was Great to watch. I was at Richmond one night when they raced each other side by side for about 100 laps and they never wrecked each other just damn good hard racing. As an Earnhardt fan I enjoyed watching it. Thanks for the video today and wish everyone a Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Yes it was!
The MGD paint scheme is def legendary
Wallace Earnhardt rivalry years was as good as the petty Pearson rivalry years
Agree about the MGD paint scheme being was the greatest in NASCAR history (actually all the MGD and High-Life liveries across all racing series were awesome, that would make a nice video on its own).
He has 2 iconic numbers the 27 which he won an championship 🏆 to then drive the legendary MGD black 🖤 and 🪙 just an remarkable career
Man this took me back. Rusty was one of my Dad's favorites, and I spent many hours next to my Dad on the couch rooting for Him Dale and Junior. Thank you for making this. 8/8
this new genre of nascar video essays like this are amazing, love learning the history of the sport from so many different perspectives
RUSTY is a die hard Racecar driver. He is ALL HEART and Born to race. . I stopped watching Nascar the day Rusty Retired. That is a TRUE FAN..
that last win made me tear up. ive followed the penske 2 my whole life because of Rusty but I wasnt old enough to understand what I was watching until 2002, the year he stopped winning every year. His last win is my favorite sports moment in my life because it was the first and only I got to experience as a fan of his. I got the diecast of that very car and the footage of the race brought back such good memories.
I would be very willing to bet that the MGD paint schemes were purposely patterned after Dale Sr.’s car.
The gold numbering and trim were more for branding and to avoid confusing spotters.
They're similar, but Miller/MGD ran the same livery on Bobby Rahal's IndyCar and Larry Dixon's Top Fuel dragster. Just a case of the two sponsors' corporate colors being similar.
You'd lose that bet....
@@zlinedavid mike eddy's ASA GM goodwrench pontiac scheme was the same as Dales...just a different car # and font.
most of Rusty's cars have followed that pattern. the solid base color with the secondary sponsor color trim around the bottom. his ASA cars, the 86 alugard car. the 90, then 91-95 MGD and the 2001-2004 miller lite cars. His RWR entries in the nationwide series usually had the same template.
when Kodiak went to Hendrick and Schrader in 1990 they used the same guideline, putting green around the bottom, and "kodiak" in green on the white base...in 91 they changed it to essentially the same scheme Rusty and Blue Max ran from 87-89
Nicely done. I started being a 2 fan in 1990 and this scratched the itch that’s been gone for many years.
Rusty Wallace has been and will always be my favorite driver. Miss watching him tear up the track.
He was my favorite driver back and Rusty Wallace. I’d loved Rusty Wallace gives me good memories
I have been a Rusty Wallace fan since 1991...such a humble man with loads of talent charisma and determination. He should have had several championships
Being born the same year he won the Cup. I grew up a Rusty fan. I thank you for this amazing content!!!
My grandma used to watch some of her brothers race with the Wallace’s before they made it big to nascar. So my family is a huge Wallace fan. Great video, keep the great work up. Will definitely be looking into more on the channel. Rusty is basically why my family cared about nascar so much and that lead to me watching it with her n my grandpa and now I’m hooked for life.
LakeHill Valley Park.....???
Great video, Reccomending kenseths story, multiple top 2 championship point finish
Kenseth was a gentleman & an anomaly. However that's spelled
It’s a shame Rusty never won a Championship with Penske. He was my favorite driver. I miss the 90s
We attended that race at the Pontiac Silverdome. as well as ASA events at Michigan international Speedway. That was a magical series.
Excellent research of information. Keep them coming.
Amazing!!!!!!!!! Need more!
One of the best of his era
Ahhh, the good old days. Loved Rusty when he ran ASA up till the end 😊
Really enjoyed this as Rusty was my favorite driver. 1 think that was incorrect. Midnight was named after the fall Richmond race in 1992, not 1993 as you said.
you are correct
“Wherever you are Alan, this is for you.” I could of thought of a better sentence to say Todd.
Even as a little kid I remember the number 2 and number 3 doing a polish victory lap running side by side
Rusty Wallace is the only reason I watched NASCAR.
Yoooooo great video bro
Great video!!!
Great documentary. I enjoyed it
Great commentary on one of my favorite race car driver Rusty Wallace!
I supported Rusty as much as a 6 year old Australian kid could, we never got televised races here unless I watched replays at a betting station my grandfather went to
I remember seeing Rusty in a Car Craft magazine with the midnight Pontiac which I thought looked awesome he had blonde hair like me and drove a Pontiac like my dad
By the time I could actually watch races on cable tv he switched to ford and I was pissed lol
I was hoping Rusty would win and rusty won on dales birthday, 50th
Jeff Gordon even had respect for rusty even even through all the rivalries ima die hard Jeff Gordon fan but I always loved rusty too
Wow. Well done !!
Dang really shows that rusty had a softer inside but acted tuff
Rusty and his brothers are awesome. Being from St. Louis area myself. Proud of them.
I became a fan the night Jeff Gordon bumped him at Bristol. It was a long wait to watch him finally win. I’ll never forget it.
NASCAR in its hey day , was the most awesome racing there was. I would rather watch an old NASCAR race than any race they show today.
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
I always respected the Ford drivers they were more respectful on the track and Dale Earnhardt Sr was the worst he won most his races wrecking others.
Rusty was 100% right on the 1994 speedweeks deal. It was a bad situation that happend given the circumstances that resulted in Orr and Bonett dying from the crashes. That was an Era where guys would really try to understand the environment and try to fix the wrongs. Unlike nowadays where guys like Spin Dick and Logano try to send everyone to the hospital in each plate race.
bubba wallace could learn a thing or two from rusty about respecting NASCAR
Rusty was a great driver and vey knowledgeable.
I love this channel man, I started watching with the first chase video and have been hooked since
this channel is what I link to friends when I try to explain why I like nascar/the stories behind the teams
The incident and reaction to the brush with DW is just ridiculous - DW even admitted his car was loose. And especially considering the fact that Earnhardt made his whole career bumping everyone out of his way ("just racing")....the Intimidator. Ridiculous double standard!!!! Whatever happened here, Rusty went on driving clean. I didn't become a NASCAR fan until 93, and chose Rusty as my favorite, though I've admired most of them. No respect for the #3 tho....he was just a bully and he knew it, was proud of it. RIP
Rusty should easily be a 3 time champion. He should've won in 1988 and in 1993. The 1993 season was just a heartbreak and as a fan I was so pissed at Earnhardt for the Talladega wreck cause he turned Rusty at the finish and due to Rusty having a broken left wrist he had to wear a cast for a month and had 4 bad races in a row cause it was hard to drive with it. He spun the car at Charlotte running top 10 because he couldn't catch the slide with the cast. Once he got the cast off he immediately went back to finishing good and winning. You can look at the races for that year and the four races he had the cast on was his worst of the year. If you give him even mediocre finishes of like 15th in those four races he would've made up that 80 point deficit. I'm one of Rusty's biggest fans and have been since 1987.
From his frist start to his last laps,I was always a " rubber head " fan.....I think he retired way to soon.....#2 4life......
How in the world do you find all of this info in such incredible detail?
I feel like most fans will associate rusty with the white and blue Miller lite car but for me it will be the black and gold MGD car
seeing rudd turn dale and seeing bodine win is something youll never see again a yellow flag would be thrown and they can get their spots back. i appreciate racing back to the flag
Rusty ,with all his restrictor plate debacles, did win the Bud Shootout in 1998. It happened to be the 1st race for Ford using the Taurus....
rusty's my favorite! we even share a birthday
Great video work man! What's that main theme music you used throughout the video it paired great with what was going on?
I didn't realize that he started in 70
Rick tried to get Rusty's win in the Winston nullified on principle...yet later he loaned the #27 team enough money to finish out the season. Good man. Does make me wonder how much more $$ Rick got from Kodiak than Beadle was.
That red and yellow 66 car i have that car sitting on my shelf right now.
He's my favorite got his cars on my wall
Great video but at the end the rumors of the RCR ride aren't true. He said so himself in Jr.'s podcast.
To think of what is happening these days that was nothing what Rusty did to Darrell
ANOTHER fun fact... he ran a test at Talledega without a restrictor plate... he got to 228mph if memory serves.
My very first NASCAR race in 1996 at Pocono Raceway rusty won the race.
Missed opportunity to title it "Rusty: The Story of Wallace"
Rusty never seen a camera that he didn't want to get in front of!
As good as he was on short tracks. It was just the opposite on super speedways . He had some violent wrecks and never really figured them out. But come to short tracks, you had to beat that 27/2
My favorite driver since I was a kid watching that bear on the kodiak car.
At least petty tried to warn him
6:15 It was 1980 not 1970. He ran 2nd to Earnhardt at Atlanta driving the Norton/Penske Chevrolet Caprice.
Midnight was named in the fall 1992 race at Richmond. It won 13 races between 1992 and 1995.
Have you considered an Alex Blaze vid with Jimmie Johnson?
💥💥 Rusty was my favorite driver along with Mark Martin. I was more of a Ford driver fan even tho i did liked some chevy and buick and Pontiac guys.
The emotions of racing are unlike any other. The possibility of death makes sports like motorsport transcend meaningless things like 'hitting a home run' or 'getting a triple -double.'
The only real sports are fighting, bull fighting, and motorsport. The rest are just games.
They're have been plenty of deaths and life altering injuries in other sports.
What is it about the Penske 2 car that can make a driver go from hated to loved, Both him and Kurt Busch.
Would Brad count, or is it too early?
@@thestarlightalchemist7333 Keselowski was hated for a bit in 2014
Brad was never hated lol
@@crouchb15 I swear he was, but it was a time before I was a fan so idk
@@crouchb15 ehhh kinda
Good man. ! Good news and Noone listened before someone got killed and look at that in the sport and in real life he was right
All this time I thought the MGD #2 was a Ford from the start.
well hes still filthy rich, he owns a ton of dealerships in Knoxville
Rusty 🫡
Rusty delivered newspapers in Don's neighborhood & saw the penske truck
Why is all these pics from my childhood creepy lol it's gotta be the music and pics of people who have passed
Wait... “You 're fired.” it's three words, not two.
Nope. It's a "Contraction". If it were "You are fired" you'd be right.
Remember when Rusty won his championship the owner didnt have enough money to run the whole year so Rick Hendrick funded the car
Rusty Wallace is a great driver and person, I loved watching this documentary
The Story of Rusty Wallace you say? 🤔....Well, Rusty's Dad met Rusty's Mom then bada-boom, bada-bang, instant Rusty! 😉
22:10
Waltrip went into Wallace.
Why was Wallace hated? It wasn’t his fault.
The spokesman for the elites of nascar informing the lower class of crews who can’t afford rocket scientist to build a motor can’t use tough intimidating style to win. No more poor people allowed.
is it possible Alan Kulwicki and Davey Allison were sacrificed as part of NASCAR's deal with Hollywood for Days of Thunder?
No. Their deaths happened after the movie’s release.
Is it possible that you could type a more idiotic comment?
Why was Waltrips 1989 spin out at Charlotte such a big deal? Thats basically Dale Sr’s trademark move.
Oooooooooh
A really solid/tough Chevrolet driver needs to rise to the top this coming season.
The real life lightning McQueen right there
Golden era top driver and honorable statesman. The family is Missouran first class act. 72 27 2 sweet
Pushke Wallace😂
Rusty never won The Daytona 500, Brickyard 400, Southern 500, or the Pepsi 400, only one crown jewel coke cola 600, that’s because he was selfish and was hard to have as a teammate, Ryan Newman didn’t put up with his crap when he was at Penske he stood up to Rusty and even out shine Rusty during the time Newman was there
💥💥 I never understood the hate on Rusty Rogers for that All-Star Race. Darrell Waltrip did that to plenty of guys heck he nudged Davey Allison and in 1992 that caused Davey Allison to flip violently at Pocono.
Like that move that Rusty Wallace did was nothing that Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, especially Jeff Gordon, Daryl Waltrip, Cale Yarbrough and many others have done.
Darrell Waltrip was hated so while all of a sudden they rooting for Rusty to beat him but then when Rusty put the move on Darrell then they all on Darrell Waltrip side don't make any sense.
Rusty Wallace was a great driver almost as good as me
Good old Krusty walrus!
When the audio of a the video your playing is of poor quality dont put a back track too it. 33:17
But PussCar is dead Now!
