- The investigation into Rayner was prompted by a complaint from Tory deputy chairman James Daly, who is understood to have made police aware of neighbours who contradicted Ms Rayner's statement that a property, separate from her husband's, was her main residency.
Mr Daly alleged she may have made a false declaration about where she was living on the electoral register.
Earlier this month, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We're investigating whether any offences have been committed.

It’s a class issue. They see Rayner as a pleb who is acting above her station. The truth is she’s lived experiences closer to the reality of life more than any other politician in Parliament today and they can’t stand it.

@markwelch3564 that's fair, but the man will do anything for the sake of holding on to power. Just like Starmer. Can't trust people like that. I back Raynor cos her track record speaks for itself and she's got a real disdain for how things currently are. Anybody telling you things are fine right now, or everything would be better if there was less brown people around, are not MPs you can trust.
Even if Reynor is guilty we're talking a few thousand pounds. Compare this to the millions of tax that so many Conservative MP's have given away to their mates and have dodged in tax.
This is such a non story and you should be ashamed of yourself for giving it so much attention
As ever, the coverup is worse than the alleged crime. It does seem very odd that she doesn’t publicly release whatever evidence she has that exonerates her, and her boss refuses to even look at it.
Just do it, and we can all move on. But the longer she resists, the worse it looks.

It's entirely possible that any monies owing via CGT would be zero *if* she'd done any renovations. She obviously did not claim them because she did not believe she owned CGT. Whichever it is now past the date at which HMRC can go back over it. The police investigation with a dozen officers is a total waste of money.
What did my local MP do, steal 90k from the taxpayer and only paid 5k of that back, still owns 85k + interest.
Attacking Rayner as a 'hypocrite' for using RtB is a feeble move.
Labour have never opposed people owning their own home, or buying their rental property.
Labour's opposition was to the Tories defunding councils, ordering them to make up the shortfall by selling social housing stock, and forbidding the councils from using the proceeds to replace properties sold.
It was a Tory national asset-stripping campaign. The exact opposite of the 'financial prudence' they are praised for by complicit UK media.
Labour first proposed RtB in their manifesto! Dropped it as they lost that election. Maggie took it up later.

I don’t care what size he is. Some Labour MPs ( Harold Wilson eg) have been even smaller in size ( but not stature) than Mr Sunak. Mind you I’m surprised that with his £billions he hasn’t bought a bigger body by now.

That is not a sign that he is a Tory, I have a friend who spoke at the Tory conference about adoption procedures and he hates the Conservatives with a passion. That said, he really had no right to open an investigation into this case, past the statute of limitations, and this is the job of the Inland Revenue not the police.

One minute Bowie is saying he can’t comment too much because it’s an ongoing police investigation, then says he’s mystified why Starmer isn’t commenting on that same investigation. Right To Buy was a flagship Conservative policy.
Its stated purpose was to turn renters into homeowners, promising to reduce their monthly payments and build up a tangible asset they could later sell or leave to their family.
The unstated purpose was to flip them into being Conservative voters (or entrench existing Conservative loyalty).
By attacking Rayner, the Tories and their client media are attacking all the people who took up the opportunity to buy their council house.
Many of whom will have sold it since they bought it, and also paid no CGT, for the same reasons as Rayner (profit based on survey value, not discounted amount paid through RTB, allowed offsets for improvements, etc).
The Tories are literally attacking their own voter base.
The aim was to make workers have the same fears as the middle class. They wouldn’t affired mortgage repayments under Labour. She created working class Tories..
And the effect has been to put a lot of rented property into private and not government hands, and this is costing the country a fortune because the government no longer owns the assets it needs for social housing and has to rent/lease them back instead. No wonder taxes have risen while services have got worse.
Interesting to know how many council houses are now owned by Tory MP landlords.
Fun fact was a Labour idea first! First appeared in a Labour manifesto! But they lost that election and ditched that policy as they thought unpopular
I think Starmers inaction is actually a sign of how confident he is that this is nothing and Angela doesnt need his help to weather this 'storm'.

Even if she did something wrong then it cant be prosecuted after 12 months. GMP should be dealing with all the Gun Grime in Moss side & all the other crimes happening in Manchester.

Angela Rayner is clearly not one of them. If you talk to Tories they hate Gordon Brown much more than Tony Blair. Take it as a compliment and move on. They will always be full of hatred for people who do not share their narrow views.
Only privately educated people are allowed to have tax-"avoiding" offshore trusts which otherwise would be liable to ALL SORTS OF TAX. Had Brexit not happened there would have been increased scrutiny of these tax-"avoidance" vehicles.

I hope you all remember when Rayner was accused of opening her legs to put Boris off across the dispatch box quite ignoring that there was no sight line. Just a cheap trick that said more about Johnson and the Tories than it did about Rayner. That didn't stick so they will try again. She scares them.
Waste of the time of 12 Manchester police officers - they are pursuing this on the orders of the Tory party rather than lesser crimes of burglaries. This sort of ridiculous non story brings all politician into disrepute.

All MPs need to be held to the heights standards. This shouldn’t be about sides. We the people we can trust in the house of commons.
That is the ideal. This particular situation is the potential unproven sandcastle from Reynor vs the proven beach from Johnson/Truss/Sunak. There is no comparison
Unfortunately, reading the comments on this channel, it is obvious that almost everyone commenting seems to think “It is ok if Raynor does it, she’s on our side” followed by some justification or excuse, usually “The Tories are worse”.

We were told to keep our noses out of their business.
We were told it was 100% legal.
We were told it was 100% moral.
We were told it was 100% ethical.
We were told to go back to our prole-slums, and not question our betters.
The example was set, the precedent was established, that this was proper behaviour.
And the public absorbed that message, that they were also allowed to do the same.
A million people will have organised their finances the same way as Rayner, following the example of 1990s MPs.
But because there's an election imminent, the Tories' pet police commissioner is conducting a fake investigation against Rayner, for acts that were never investigated when carried out by Tory MPs.
Strange how a Greater Manchester care worker, and mother of a disabled child, is held to a stricter standard than UK lawmakers.
She was cleared by police and HMRC. There cannot be a crime as time elapsed too long.
Interfering with the police is a serious issue.
Angela needs to take strength from the fact the Tories see her as such a massive problem due to her popularity that they have to keep this bullying campaign going!

Angela Rayner selling her house would have been advised by the estate agent.
Tory ministers purchasing houses, selling assets, etc. would have been advised by specialist tax advisors and legal teams.
Angela Rayner potentially owes £1,500.

There are two types of people who go into politics, people who genuinely want to make the country a better place, and people who want to line their own pockets. The past 14 years, we have been inundated with the latter. In order to restore trust in politics, we need to introduce a strict code of conduct for MP'S to abide by, with severe penalties for breaking the code.
It’s too late for police to take any action against Rayner so it’s a complete waste of police time!
What happened about the millions lost through crooked PPE which was a massive scandal & nobodies been held accountable, no cash has been returned to the public purse???

Keir starmer's background is not in tax law. How it he qualified to look it over? He should do what he has done get experts to look at it
Bowie’s colleague reported Rayner to GMP but he refuses to say what the complaint was.
What else have they got?
She's only broken the law if she intended to commit fraud. If she's simply made a mistake then she just needs to pay what was owed.
If she's found to have owed, she'll resign as she said she would, but there will not be any criminal charges because then they'd have to prove the intent in court and there isn't a case to be brought; she didn't do anything intentionally.
Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak's wife legally avoided £20m in taxes whilst being the wife of the UK Chancellor (who also had a green card for his first 18 months in the post and wasn't officially a resident of the UK).
My Mums a an old school Thatcher supporter and she adores Angela Rayner and agreea with a lot of what she says about the Tory party. The old white money men attacking a working class women for basically daring to speak her mind and working hard to make money for herself and her family better off. Shes really the definition of the kind of person Thatcher's Government wanted to get ahead. Their hatred of her speaks volumes about who runs the party now and how they view ordinary people.

The guy who says she may have broken the law, it must be remembered that the law is not a single line. If I get a speeding ticket, for going 80 on a motorway, I have broken the law yet this breach is far less serious than stealing vast sums of money from the public purse. The devil *is in* the detail.

Surely one should consider chronology. Sue Gray took a post with Labour AFTER investigating Boris (her investigation of Boris could’ve been one of the reasons to join Labour) whereas the Police Chief spoke at a Tory conference BEFORE opening an investigation into Rayner’s alleged misdoings. The investigation itself should be investigated for ‘wasting police time’ . Even if she is in breach (which I doubt) of any law it is past the statute of limitation and therefore is not prosecute-able. Police should be called in to prosecute those involved in this investigation for ‘wasting police time’ …. Carrying a fine or penalty of six months in prison, I believe. IRONIC … No!
