Angela Rayner tax row: Carol Vorderman does the maths | LBC

- Carol Vorderman is “absolutely incensed” by the scrutiny Angela Rayner is currently facing over the tax on her council house sale.
The police and HMRC are undergoing an investigation into the sale of the Deputy Labour Leader's council house in 2015. The investigation was prompted by Tory deputy chairman James Daly making the police aware of neighbours who contradicted Ms Rayner's statement that the property, separate from her husband's, was her main residency.
Ms Rayner has said she will step down if she is found to have broken the law. She said: "If I committed a criminal offence, I would of course do the right thing and step down. The British public deserves politicians who know the rules apply to them."

I don't really get the argument about buying a council house, she didn't support the policy being done, but once it is done. Her buying or not buying her home when 4 million others have been sold is not nothing it is less than nothing. She never went after the people who bought their council houses, she went after the policy itself.
Although I think what the Tories are doing is disgusting I didn't think the issue was that Angela brought a council house (as that is not illegal so no point going to the police about it.) I thought the issue was where she claimed to be living at the time (which means she may have potentially broke electoral law) and if she potentially dodged taxes. Don't get me wrong I see this for what it is (a distraction by the Tories, throw enough mud and hoping some of it will stick) but just thought I would say what I believe the issue is. I don't agree with buying council houses either but it is not illegal.
@@missaj5623 however the issue is we don't know if she dodged tax or was incorrectly registered the fact HMRC who was previously informed about this found nothing is rather telling. The wrong electoral register is again something that cannot even be prosecuted due to the statute of limitation and doesn't mean much.
@@Alex-cw3rz absolutely I agree 100% it is just that you seemed to be saying the issue was she brought a council house while being against the policy but this is not something the Police would be investigating as it is not breaking any laws.
@@Alex-cw3rz Why do you think those are issues? Were you sitting at home one day and think "oh I do hope all MPs have settled all their decades old tax affairs properly"? Was it Nadhim Zahawi getting caught avoiding tax with a dodgy trust in a taxi haven and then taking over as chancellor while he was still being investigated that made you passionate about this topic? Zahawi incidentally paid more than a million in a fine and is still a sitting Tory MP.
Or did you never really like Angela and after weeks of front pages telling you that you were right to dislike her all along now you think this is what matters. Ignore the wars, the millions on NHS waiting lists, the crumbling buildings and councils going bankrupt. What matters is if a decade ago she paid a thousand quid or not on a house sale we have no reason to believe she owed any money on.
The issue is they tried to paint her as a Thatcherite which failed. So decided they could imply there's a tax issue. So what if apparently they only Labour MPs to any standards when it comes to taxes, it's a better story than woman sold house. Except there's no reason to think she did anything wrong or if she did that it was anything other than a mistake. So instead there's some faked "if only she would clear things up". Except we know how that would work because they've moved on to yet another attempt to turn this into a story so even if she had somehow "cleared up selling a house" that clearly wouldn't have stopped anything.
Also welcome to the early days of the next election. This is going to be it. Don't look at the Tory record, don't look at your own lives or the lives of people you know. They want you to hate individual Labour MPs enough to vote against your own interests. That's all this is. And when they get tired of this invented scandal there's going to be another one and another one. Who cares if there's no evidence, there must be some truth if they keep reporting right?
Yes, similar to how some people call James O'B a hypocrite for being in favour of wealth distribution but also having some money, or for believing in basic human rights for asylum seekers, but then not housing them all personally in his own house.

I was hoping for a response like this. Well done. If only some of the press came back with this.
Anyone, but anyone who's been accused of breaking the law and lying to parliament has to be investigated, It costs money as it did when Boris was investigated. Let her off? Why?
There’s not one moment when hearing Vorders speak where I’m not thinking “she’s an absolutely legend”!
@joex Yes there is..don't overegg it...just undermines your praise for her...but you shouldn't need to be told that.
@@chatham43 erm… ok?
@joex2004uk - I'm sure you missed out on the hyphen. You obviously mean LEG END
I'm incensed by people who should know better advertising payday loans.
Kyle is right, they're terrified of Rayner and especially Johnson who hated the open contempt she had for him and, Like Carol, I look forward to her being in a position to investigate them. As for Carol, she is priceless.
Carol! Our heroine! ❤
Well Done Carol ❤
Why are we surprised ? They all have their snouts in the trough.Remember the expenses scandal ? All parties at it.
Well said Carol!
The house in question was bought at a discount to be lived in by her not anybody else and at the time she was getting into politics. So she was telling lies when she voted as she was living else where whenshe voted. If she was living somewhere else when she bought the discounted house then she shouldnt have been allowed to buy the house.
They are simply bullies!!!!!
WE NEED TO TALK AND INVESTIGATE ALL THE TORIES TAX DODGING AND ALL THE DODGY DEALS!!!
I think it's only right everyone is scrutinised in the same way. No matter the party.
"Do you think tax dodger's should be shadow minister's ?"
SIR KIER STARMER DOES
It is a shame we must have politicians.
As I understand it the statute of limitations has passed any way so why are the police investigating it when there is nothing they can do about it. There is enough current crime in GM for them to investigate.
Then you understand wrong. There’s barely such thing as Statute of Limitations in the UK and potential tax evasion doesn’t apply anyway.
I love reading some of these comments from wannabe lawyers who don’t actually know what they’re talking about.
@@karlhinze Limitation Act 1980.. read it and weep.. signed.. an actual lawyer.
Perhaps AR should have asked Carol to check her tax return form before still submitting it to HMRC. 🤣🤣🤣
