What you really need to hear is Machinae Supremacy - Sidology 2: Trinity. The first part of it is a real-instrument rework of this song. It's mind-blowing stuff.
Late by about 2 years for this comment, but who here remembers The Maniacs Of Noise website from a few decades back where they (including Tel) had hundreds of xm mods mostly funky and Jazzy and wow that was my only music for maybe 3-4 years straight, and I still listen to a lot now. Found this late but thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown and head bops Sir! Thank you TTFB!
It's really great to see professionals opinions of old tunes we used to love in our childhood, even when they were very limited due to tecnical reasons, as you mentioned. However the C64 had some really awesome capabilities and that shows even today. It's the only system I know of that continues to have remixes/renditions of old tunes that are absolutely stunning and they touch your soul musically. Pretty much like Charles Cornell very technical take on some old tunes I think you should anaylize and react to some beloved C64 tunes of old, they do deserve it. I can suggest works from Hubbard, Tel, Follin and many others. Roboocop, Hawkeye, Cybernoid 2, Stormlord, Thrust, Comic Bakery, Last Ninja, oh so many... It warms my heart everytime I hear a new rendition of a C64 tune that I knew as a kid and by then I knew it was great, take Supremacy that you just reacted to: Metal version: ua-cam.com/video/JXpkD_2hl-I/v-deo.html Modern take: ua-cam.com/video/3JQkW6BgUYU/v-deo.html Another modern take: ua-cam.com/video/7P5m7oMtMqs/v-deo.html Also sometimes really good musicians make covers that really sound like magic, please check Reyn Ouwehand's versions of Wizball or Stormlord... Or Machinae Supremacy verion of Ginna Sisters... how not to love it? Great flashback! Keep it up!!
You can tell when it's Tel 😅 Sorry for the dumb joke, but this is the reality. I like the fact that Jeroen Tel's music is more melodic than the other artists. My personal favourite is the in-game music of Kinetix, a very simple game that contains a music that forces you to go on and on the levels just to hear more music and that changes a lot. I never finished it when I have been playing it and I heard it all only when I was really older. Check it out!
Great reaction. Subscribed and thumbed up. I too was the owner of a C64 back in the day and it always amazes me how these composers got so much out of the 8bit machine. Other great Jeroen Tel C64 theme tunes to check out, in no particular order. "Myth", "Robocop 3", "Cybernoid" (1 and 2). Check out Martin Galway as well, with Times of Lore or Parallax. Tim Follin "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts". Rob Hubbard with "Auf Wiedersehen Monty" and "Monty on the Run". And of course Wally Beben's masterful 26 minute opus for the C64 version of Tetris. To name but a few!
Loving the series and nice to see the C64 getting a shout! Been listening to C64 SID music and remixes for many years - I hope that going back to it hasn't tarnished the nostalgia! Jereon Tel churned out some fairly punchy tracks on the C64 and was obviously as concerned with the technical side of things as he was with catchy hooks and funky melodies. Too many good tunes to mention - Turbo Outrun, Myth, Cybernoid, Savage, Rubicon....the list goes on tbh.
I agree with OceanLoader (what a wonderful YT name!) and I even re-discovered C64 And Amiga covers from sites like RKO64 etc that were for game music covers and used to listen regularly 15 years back!
I'm 56 myself and you're exactly right about ruining the nostalgia. I spent boocoo money trying to get a good working C64, 1571 drive, and a lot of the games I used to play. Wow. What utter trash. The loading time on some of the games was almost unbearable. I had planned to play all of the D&D games over again, Pool of Radiance, Azure Bonds etc. as I have such fond memories of them. It's just not the same as what's in my memory. My all-time fondest computer RPG game memories are from the text based America Online game "Gemstone". It was the first time you could actually play an RPG in a virtual world filled with real active human players. I tried to play it again a couple of years ago, and ugh....but the adventures were so REAL when I originally played it. I think about it every day, and nothing has come close since.
Thanks for this review ! Put a smile on my face. 😎🌟👍🏼
You are a living legend and should feel incredibly proud! Thank you for your incredible work. You have made many childhoods very happy.
My all time favorite from you, a true masterpiece.
I disliked my reaction Jeroen to keep the likes on 64! 😊 64ever in my heart! You're the best! Groeten -= p2 / h3@tW@v3 =-

Agreed. That ingame music is brilliant. Especially the (I call it) scratchin' part.
This is a masterpiece.
You should also hear Lightforce if you haven't already.
My favourite are the ocean loaders on C64..for me personally it reflects my soul as a kid in the 80s and early 90s
Overlord is one of the first PC games I ever fell in love with. Brings me back.
I liked this tune so much, i even did a version on fasttracker back in the days.
I love all Jeroens music, and Tim Follins, and so much more on the C64 ... but the best suite I think was made for the Last Ninja 3 by Reyn Ouwehand

Writing these down. I want to hear more Tel stuff, this was really good.

This music always sounds kind of heroic to me, especially the open bars.
The NES music is cool too.
Wish you’d hear some Alberto Jose Gonzalez tunes.
I would reccomend you to check the intro of Last Ninja 3. It is awesome both visual and music vise.
C64 music top 3 (for me):
Supremacy
My favorite is c64 Panther and p.p hammer!

My dad and his buddy still plays random c64 games when they met just to laugh at how bad most are.
Absolute masterpiece! Thanks for sharing
I REALLY LOVE MY C64 ❤❤❤ FOREVER ❤❤❤❤
If you like the original, check out the version of this by LukHash.
Cybernoid 2 and RoboCop3.
Listen to "Lick the alphabet by Virt", "Chaos #1 by Zabutom, Dubmood, and Blz", and "Back again by 4mat"
You definitely should hear orchestral version performed on real instruments :)
Suggestion for a game soundtrack you might like, Second Samurai for the Sega Genesis. Has a lot of funky and catchy tunes.
Try almost anything by Tm Follin. Ghouls'n'Ghosts is incredible.
JT 💪
Was that 50hz? I have (and beaten Overlord) but this seems slower than I remember which would make sense given your showing Supremacy...
Yes, given that Jeroen Tel is a Dutch composer, it would make sense that this song was composed with 50Hz in mind.
