The scene where Luke's mom (played by Jo Ann Fleet) is brought to say goodbye to him before she dies is the best acted, best written, best directed scene I've ever seen. So beautiful, so real and so heartbreaking. And it perfectly sets up the second half of the film.
Take note kids.....this is how to make a real movie.....not that Marvel space monkey CGI crap..... Real actors.....real acting ....real script ...real writing......
Arguably, Newman's best movie: cynical, quietly in control, rebel-everything we want to be or look up to in life. & look @ that cast of hungry actors, who know they hit the jackpot: Kennedy, Waite, Hopper, Cannon, Antonio, Stanton, Zerbe, Rogers. 🤩
Love this scene, Dragline accepts that him and Luke are gonna be friends, he even admires him. Probably the most important scene in the entire movie because it also shows the rest of them who's really in charge and it ain't Dragline.
@@ignacio9813 clearly you don't you waste of skin. It's mullet head. He says it low and with an accent. Mullet head. Thus is my favorite movie of all time. I know every line. Why anyone would say motherhead is beyond me
So Cool Hand is arrested and charged with at least one felony count of damaging and tampering city property (in this case, parking meters) and was sentenced to 2 years on a prison farm.
@@mikebaxter6771 the whole movie Dragline says "that's my boy" "that's my baby" they are clearly gay for each other. Even people of the day knew the characters were written for each other. It doesn't matter though, I think the point of their relationship is that Luke has the guts to deconstruct his reality and Dragline gets sort of inspired to do it too.
Clearly, you all don’t have enough common sense to understand great movies or life... the three characters in this scene; Koko, Dragline, and Luke are all Aquarius by zodiac: Jan 23, Feb 18, and Jan 26 respectively. Aquariums are known for being against the system and laid back, but fight for what’s right as humanitarians... the director was smart enough to place real Aquarius actors in an Aquarius film. Dragline is what carries artillery in military war. He dragged Luke out at end. Y’all are bitches, and stoooooopid. FACTS

The moment George Kennedy’s character finally realizes the spirit of Luke and comes to admire him for the man he is. Such a beautiful moment.
One of the greatest lines in movie history.
It sure was
real art
The acting of George Kennedy is fantastic, the respect and admiration he gives Luke after the hand.
So underrated!
@@oktg91 , well, he DID win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for it 🤨.

It's funny how the quotes in this movie stay with you throughout your life.
Best supporting actor for Kennedy,
Newman at the peak of his career

"the man's got kings get yer tail out !!"
Amazing that Newman wasn't the 1st pick to play Luke.......
Wayne Rogers did a great job dealing cards in this incredible scene. I don't know if he improvised it, but it certainly made the scene even better.
He did catch my attention
Tons of solid actors in small roles here definitely helped, along with Newman's legendary performance
@@mikestarr6634 Yeah, quite the ensemble in this movie. Men who would be known, in time.
George Kennedy his charecter swept off his feet....... his Oscar speech so touching
"Move over, haha I'm going to sit here next to my boy.... cool...hand luke."

"Always drink Gin with the mark Kid. That way they can't tell if if you cut it."
The Sting, great quote
Luke knows how to celebrate a victory. Large or small.
" Kick a buck."
If any man doesn't think this is a masterpiece he spends a night in the box.
Paul Newman is such a big dream boat
Lotta heavyweights in this movie, especially this scene.
Newman, Kennedy, Dennis Hopper, Harry Dean Stanton..
I love this movie. Great actors all around

When my brother got whipped in fist fights while losing he’d say you’re gonna have to kill me. Think Luke had an affect on him.
"yeah well" personality of a role play

It's obvious the 2 (Newman & Kennedy's characters) had a 'special' kinship. Gay for the stay & 'straight' at the gate' as ex cons sometimes mutter.
