Joey’s level has increased way beyond his 4.5 rating. He won’t get bumped unless he plays enough USTA matches (maybe he is?). I feel his serve quality has improved immensely…
Really like watching the progression of Joey over these past two seasons. Humble, yet confident, seems always engaged, a lot like Will in that regard. Also really like the REI hat he’s sporting. Cheers…
@@swhealy not sure if he has corrected it but ian himself used to be quite a foot faulter to be fair i have not seen ian in match play in a while but he used to foot fault a lot

Adam needs to step further into the court before serving, like 3-5ft inside the baseline and he would be more competitive. Seems to me Joey is more accustomed to playing outdoors and being indoors made his game very consistent.
@@petershort936 yes. I would understand more if the matches weren't recorded. Since they are and I'm sure he watches them yet doesn't bother to try to make adjustments seems as bad as hooking to me. It probably doesn't change the match outcomes much but at least make an effort to scoot back a few inches.
see this a lot with pin point stances where the back foot passes the front foot, instead of using the front foot as a barrier. I don't think it matters a whole lot, but it's weird they wouldnt' fix it.@@mikealbert728
another impressive set of tennis from Joey, he is on fire!!! Stats just show that Adam had no opening in this set. He only won 3 points off Joey's serve. Joey served really well with 68% 1st serve percentage and 7 service winners, including that ace on match point. Would love to see a rematch against Will
@@swhealy That's where he's coming down, but that's not the foot fault. The fault is where his one foot steps in a few inches 'before' he jumps up for the ball. If you make contact with both feet off the ground, which he does, where you land doesn't matter. Pros land well inside the baseline on every serve. They just jump up from back of the line.
I think the key difference that seperate Joey in this match was that he is offensive with his return of serve and he has no problem generating his own pace and dealing with high balls. He was playing well within himself and Mark was abolsutely right, the shots he was missing were more or less unforced errors that naturally happen over the course of a match. Adam thinking more slicing would yeild better results, was him reading too much into that one service return (4:08mins) where Joey only just missed by a small margin. But that happens when you're being battered, you look for any positives. Overall, Joey is a different level.
Joey should definitely be ranked higher. With the improvement he's shown clearly 5.0-6. It was some good fight from Adam. It reminded me of the match between pre-pregnant Serena and Suarez-Navarro. Navarro pushed hard but the power and consistentcy of Serena pressured Navarro too much.
Yeah, I noticed too. He's rotating his shoulders square to where he's hitting... on the deuce side it leads to egregious foot faults. Not to mention this early over-rotation is really bad for his serve power and placement. Honestly impressed he can hold serve at all at 5.0, but he does fight well.
@@ItMaker5000XL yes he is one hell of a fighter he looked injured but kept fighting ps i noticed on some earlier essential tennis videos that ian also had a habit of foot faulting as well not sure if he still foot faults not to be too critical because i love their videos but you would think something like foot faults would not occur very much at their level
Joey's level definitely dropped, which is kind of natural unless you're Rafa. But, a lot of credit goes to Adam for switching to a semi-pusher game to throw Joey off. It certainly bothered him and he got a little tight. But, in the end, I predicted worst case Joey 6-2 which is exactly what happened. That last game, Joey went back into Beast mode since he was comfortable and was no longer feeling tight at that point. Huge props to Adam for hanging in there and making a match of it in the second set! Some of the shots he hit were amazing given the position he was in - he has a knack for getting balls back over the net that you don't expect! I'd love to play either of these players as they are both nice guys... Well, love might be an overstatement since either would wipe the floor with me.... LOL
Joey just took out Will, Mark, and Adam, all 5.0+ players and only dropped one set !! Will is probably the best player on the channel ever and got beat. Yes, this is the best example on how perfectly accurate USTA ratings are 😂 Alcaraz would come in at maybe 5.0 right now ? 😜😜 I would rather see their UTR ratings for matches, way way more reliable, I’m guessing Joey is about 9.5, Adam about 8, Mark abut 8.2, Will probably about 9.3.
adam looks like he is playing injured great hustle though pretty sure adam foot faults quite a bit the right foot not the left it may be the angle but pretty sure he is foot faulting
I hate opponents who find excuses to talk to me during changeovers. It's purposely done to break your rhythm and make you lose concentration. Adam does that, he knows he does that specifically for that. I'm glad Joey knew that and kept his cool.
It's like in "Winning Ugly" by Brad Gilbert when one player says on the changeover, "You're serving really well today. What are you doing different?" to get the guy thinking about his technique and mess him up.

True 100%. Joey has 5.0+ written all over him right now.

The Adam foot faults back in full force.
And think of how lopsided it would have been had someone been calling Adam's foot faults.

Awesome play by Joey! Loved Mark's hysterical commentary!!
"I hope Adam brought $90 in cash because he owes Joey an hour of private lesson" Dammmmnnnn that's savage lmao
Is joey drywall my favorite tennis player? What is happening
Adam brought a 🔪 to a 🔫 fight. Joey is BEAST. Up there with Will East, Mike Treis and Mark Sansait in the ET universe.
Adams game is very hard to watch. It seems like he could keel over at any moment

Joey might need a new nickname after today. That was a clinic he put on!
Adam played incredible tennis and still got totally demolished. Joey's on a whole other level.
What tension is Joey's poly. Curious,.looks like full poly hyper g
I need more of these types of vids please
Sometimes there's nothing you can do.

What is the etiquette on foot faults in recreation tennis? I feel like most people do it. Do you call it or just let it slide?
At 6:22, he's about a foot and a half inside the baseline for his serve. That's a crazy advantage.

Would love to see John from doubles vs Joey Drywall
What is the woman on the next court doing at 13:48?
You guys keep mentioning slapping the ball, maybe you can make a vid differentiating a solid ground stroke vs a slap.
One adjustment Adam could make is to serve with both feet inside the blue instead of one... apparently this is OK - who knew!
